We spent one night here in November 2016 and that was enough. I have been trying, unsuccessfully to contact the General Manager Lisa Alexander but to no avail.
We selected Meadowbrook Inn based on what we saw advertised on their website and in speaking with their front desk clerk. I mentioned how gorgeous everything looked online and how excited we were to have lucked out and that that special room was available. He went right along with it and never mentioned that it was not as advertised. I was excited to surprise my husband with a great place to stay for the night (fires in NC had us changing our plans at the last minute) but this (see pic below) is what is we got. In addition, the refrigerator was unplugged when we arrived so it smelled awful and water was dripping throughout. We called up to the clerk at the front desk and he brought us towels to clean it up ourselves which we did. I still am not sure why we did...The spa tub was old and didn't look at all inviting and the door didn't close.
We requested a late checkout but received a call from the clerk letting us know that we were LATE in checking out (they didn't make a note of our late check out request) and besides that...I have never in my life received a call that I was beyond (original) check out time. Go figure!
When we went to check out, I asked to speak to a manager and the clerk said that the General Manager, Lisa Alexander, was on the phone so I waited. After several minutes standing at the desk, the clerk let me know, Ms. Alexander would not have time to speak with me as she had a meeting, so I left my contact information with the issues we had experienced. The hours went by and she didn't call so I called her again and wound up leaving another message. She didn't return that call, either. Several days passed and so I decided to email her, she never responded. I called and asked to speak with Ms. Alexander's supervisor but was told she didn't have one nor would they give me the name of the owner or anyone else with whom I could speak. This morning, 1/17/17, I called again and was told (again) that there was no one above Ms. Alexander with whom I could speak and once again no owner information would be provided. At this point, it is the principle of the matter for me, as what was meant to be a lovely anniversary stay was made sour by false advertising and poor service. Hard-earned money gone to waste. Had we not arrived after 6pm (displaced due to the fires), in November, during peak-season in the mountains, we would have gone elsewhere in a heartbeat. Lastly, one small thing, but with this Inn charging Chetola Resort prices, it warrants the mention, the WiFi should work. It is as advertised as "rated excellent". It was intermittent at best. Again, not as advertised. FALSE ADVERTISING & MISREPRESENTATION....
Read moreWe stayed at Meadowbrook Inn previously and enjoyed our stay. Based on that experience, we booked 22 days in advance and were looking forward to a stress free vacation.
Upon entering our room we heard a loud, obnoxious, constant mechanical sound. We checked outside the room to try locating the source of the noise, and a staff member offered to help. He came to the room, heard the noise and sent maintenance to our room. A very polite maintenance man came and evaluated the noise. He then called the head of maintenance to verify a diagnosis of water moving through a geothermal HVAC system. The head of maintenance confirmed this and we were told nothing could be done. Maintenance then informed the front desk of the situation.
We approached the front desk to request a different room. The manager stated the hotel was full and they would TRY to move us the next day but there were no guarantees. One night with the noise was pushing it for us and we had planned on staying four nights. I made sure the manager had my phone number to call and let me know if we could be moved the next day. She said we could go to another hotel and they would not charge us. I told her other hotels would probably be sold out like Meadowbrook. She read off hotels that had vacancy. I told her we were going back to the room to decide what to do.
There was no apology for the inconvenience and she acted as if we were bothering her. She made it clear it was our problem to deal with. Considering her dismissive attitude, the unbearable and constant noise and not knowing if another room was a certainty, we decided to go to another hotel that values treating guest with courtesy. Upon leaving, the staff member that first contacted maintenance acted as if it was perfectly normal to check out guest that had just checked in and again no apology for this unpleasant experience.
After we had checked in to another hotel we received a courtesy message from Booking.com in regards to authorizing a charge on our credit card number on file. There was an unidentified number to call for issues. When I called the number the man that checked us out answered the phone and he told a totally different story no one had communicated to us. He said he was standing beside the manager when I spoke to her and they were going to move us and the noise was coming from the refridgerator in the room that had been fixed. If this was true, why were we not told this story? Had this truly been the case we could have avoided the inconvenience of moving, wasted vacation time, significant added cost of booking a last minute room, and most especially, the unneeded stress. This obviously concocted story shows this man was intent on gaslighting us making a bad...
Read moreMy wife and I booked a room at this facility for a busy weekend. The facility looked nice in the common areas. The staff was friendly. Our disappointment came with the condition of our $214 room. I realize this is a resort community and prices will be higher, but did expect a nice room for the high price. There are rooms available in the area at half the price in a nicer and SAFER facility.
Our room did NOT have a mini-refrigerator, (my experience has been that almost every decent place has these now.)
The Wi-Fi in our room was very unreliable , it continued to drop out and only read 1 bar on our phones. In other areas of the facility it seemed much better, but unuseable in room #113.
The bathroom door did not latch properly and was impossible to lock, unless a strong person lifted up on the door so the misaligned latch would catch. My wife wasn't strong enough to do this.
The "air conditioner system" is either limited by temperature or malfunctioning severely. When we arrived around at 4pm the room was 80 degrees and it was 84 outside. We lowered it to 70 degrees and went to an early dinner. When we returned around 7pm the room temperature was down to 74 degrees. My wife lowered the setting to 69 degrees and left it there. Later in the evening it was 73 degrees outside and 74 inside. Finally we requested a box fan to get some air movement, which the staff promptly. Sunday morning early we awoke to find our room had "chilled down" to a temperature of 72 degrees, which matched the outside temperature. I can't imagine what it would have been like if it had been really hot outside.
I will skip over the condition and cleanliness of the room what was at best fair. But I can't ignore the exterior window of our ground floor room.
The window was a horizontal sliding window. One side appeared to be fixed and the other would slide to open. So how the two sashes were too wide for the frame. It was IMPOSSIBLE to latch/lock the window sashes. The solution which was provided by the hotel was to cut a piece of electrical conduit to drop into the track. Not an ideal solution, but could have been safe I guess if it was long enough to prevent sash from opening. Unfortunately it wasn't, even with the "pipe" dropped in the track you could still open the sash about 2-3 inches. Easily enough to get a hand or pry bar in the frame. Not a safe condition when you are on the ground floor.
Bottom line is the room was priced like a 4 star resort and our room turned out to be a 2 star dump. I would highly recommend to search for other Inns before choosing this...
