The Getaway Blowing Rock — Hotel in Blowing Rock

My husband and I and our 3-year-old stayed here for an early 10th wedding anniversary trip since we have a big family weddinag coming up near our actual anniversary. Blowing Rock is our favorite place and we have come here for well over a decade for every special occasion and just for weekends away. This is, by far, the best place we have ever stayed near Blowing Rock! We've stayed in cabins and at Echota etc, But this time, we knew we wouldn't be spending much time where we were actually staying and we wanted to do a lot of hiking and exploring. It really did feel like we just had our own little home that we were coming back to everyday. The unit looked EXACTLY like the photos and I stopped taking pictures to send to our family and just sent them the pictures from the website because that's exactly what it looked like. Everything was so well thought out and has been so well-appointed. We saw this place being built a couple of years ago and were so excited for it to be finished so we could come back and stay here. It truly is the best location! For anyone that knows the area, it is quite LITERALLY a 30-second walk to Camp Coffee and Blue Deer. That is, unless you are a SUPER slow walker. Right at the end of Main Street. We walked to everything everyday right there in town. So convenient and easy! The bed was insanely comfortable and because it was a king, our 3-year-old was able to sleep with us comfortably. He actually didn't want to leave when we left because he loved the "hotew" so much and the bed was so comfy lol. The couch was also incredibly comfortable and even though we didn't end up using the couch bed, we were very surprised to learn it was a memory foam and air mattress hybrid. That's pretty cool and would make it much more comfortable for anyone who wanted to stay on it. Next time we come, we realize that it would definitely be totally fine to bring my husband's mother and we what all fit in there perfectly. It's also great because there's a full bathroom on the first floor as well. It was totally quiet and the only thing we ever heard when we were actually in the unit was when someone was stomping going down the stairs and an adjoining unit. But it wasn't that loud. Didn't hear any street noise or anything like that either and it was a wonderful peaceful place to stay! While we were there, we did have an issue with our electronic lock not locking one night and we were able to call the owners and they quickly came out on their own time to fix it as it was a malfunction with the actual electronic mechanism, which was brand new. Check in and check out with almost too simple and was so easy that we kept feeling like something had to be wrong or we had to be forgetting something. We hadn't, though. It was just that easy. My wife and I stayed 1 night for a quick getaway to celebrate our 40th anniversary. First impression was wow. Great location and very nice. But then we ran into negatives. The biggest issue was the air conditioner was not working and it was almost a sleeplessness night. We really did not become aware of this until we retired for the night and then thought it would cool down since it was a cool night. But with no screens on the windows or door we were hesitant to leave them open. Another issue is privacy, we like to sit out when in the mountains and the decks are so close together with no privacy between, you are looking at the people in the suite next to yours. This could be made better by installing a small screen wall between each one to at least give some visual privacy but don't plan on carrying on a private conversation. Now the not such big deal items. #1 Fire Place did not work, may have been the batteries in the remote. #2 Bedroom TV Remote batteries were dead so no way to turn on TV until we swapped out a battery with one from one of our devices. #3 Beautiful Tile Shower had Black Mold in back corner. #4 Since we were awake the biggest part of the night from the heat we had a major surprise. We had the ceiling fan over the bed on trying to cool down and all of a sudden the blinding light on the fan came on, then the light and fan both went off. Must be a remote control sync issue with one of the other units. Other than that the location was great, we walked up and had an incredible meal at the Speckled Trout as always. We have been visiting and staying in Blowing rock for almost 20 years in the fall. This had to be potential to be our new go to place to stay, but after the issues and discussion we will look elsewhere for a place to stay. We did contact the host the next day to let them know about some of the issues and going back and forth , they insisted we accept a partial refund and discount on our next visit. Several weeks have gone by and we have yet to see any refund or communication. So we will be visiting blowing rock again this Fall but after weighing the pros with the cons, we will...
