This place was perfect! It was like stepping back in time in a good way. We did a “No reservations” trip to the mountains a couple of months ago, and this place was recommended by one of the the pricier hotels bc we didn’t want to spend the money on theirs. We LOVED it! Friendly staff at check in. Fire pit lit every evening. In the mornings you could walk done to the coffee room, where they had coffee, tea, hot chocolate and all the fixings. They even had a freezer full ice small bags of ice. This place was absolutely charming. I’m just sorry we didn’t stay longer. We stayed in 6 different hotels on our trip and my husband and I agree that this place was the BEST. It even had a real key, lol. You will not be disappointed with your stay at Mountainaire Inn. Room was very clean and cozy. Bed was so comfortable! TV was the easiest to use-all hotel tvs are not the same. It had a coffee maker and all bathroom amenities. Even a good shower! GREAT location to walk and see the beautiful town on Blowing Rock. The Speckled Trout restaurant is a must try right around the corner. I wish I had better pics to share, but just know, this nostalgic place was the best!

I paid $300+ for one night in room #3 at the Mountainaire Inn. Spending over $300, I expect the room to be clean (meaning without - mold in the bathroom and air conditioner, previous visitor’s hair, stained towels, stained curtains; thick dirt/dust on the walls, ceiling and fan; spider webs, and tons of stains on the carpet). This Inn is in a good location, so I expect the room to be well used, but it is clear that these rooms are not being maintained and I’m sure all of the other rooms need a deep clean too. If you can reserve a room for under $100 a night, then stay here and bring cleaning supplies. If you cannot, book somewhere else.

My husband and I stayed here for a mini-getaway for our anniversary. It’s the perfect little place for a quick stay (we stayed two nights). There are only 12 rooms at the inn. We got #12 which is on the end and it’s the only room with rocking chairs on the deck. The inn offers a small room right off the lobby that is open 24 hours with coffee, tea, and bagged ice for your room. They also have a nice outdoor area for relaxing by the fire pit. Because it was our anniversary, they gave us a voucher for a free bottle of wine to redeem at their sister property, Meadowbrook Inn, just down the street.

I looked at all the available cabins on their website and chose to rent the Apple Cabin based on the photos and description a few days before Christmas in 2015 when we had family in town for a little overnight trip to the mountains. After we received the key from the office we were expecting to drive up a mountain to a log cabin, it's nothing but a hill directly off the main road. Mountainview is a joke compared to other mountainview cabins I have stayed at before.

To add to the disappointment, when we entered our cabin we immediately realized the indoor photos on their website did not match the cabin at all. The indoor photos for the Apple Cabin on their website is pictures of a completely different cabin! The cabin is as small as a studio apartment. When we confronted the office about booking the cabin off of the photos and being given a completely different cabin they told us they were booked up and we would be unable to switch to the cabin the photos were from, which surprisingly ended up being a more expensive cabin!

In order for them to do anything for us they required us to send management the links to their own website of the photos and the description of the Apple Cabin! I thought this was completely dumb considering it's their own website so they should be able to pull it up themselves, but I did as they asked! I sent the links to two different email addresses multiple times, but every time the lady at the front desk said management did not receive my emails or the link was broken! I then decided to take screen shots of every picture of the Apple Cabin and the description from their website and attached them to an email along with the actual photos I took of the inside of the cabin we were given that clearly did not match! No surprise, they couldn't open those attachments either!

In the end, we were not even offered a discount for the inconvenience because management could never open the information in the emails and they were never in the office for me to show them face to face the photos of the cabin and the errors on their website via my cell phone. All they did was offer us a discount if we ever wanted to stay there again! Like I seriously would want to stay there again after all that!?!

After our stay I periodically checked their website for about 6 months to see if they ever fixed their errors, no surprise they never did any time I had checked! I am convinced they were fully aware of the error, but were using it in their favor by showing photos of a more expensive cabin under the less expensive, Apple Cabin's page in order to get more bookings, especially after making us go in circles with them!

I did however, just check their website again almost 2 years later and the correct photos of the Apple Cabin are now on their website. Maybe they got tired of too many people complaining about being scammed the...

What a time capsule, we loved it. If you’re looking for a nostalgic experience in the heart of Blowing Rock, this place is for you. This quaint and charming hotel stay was a memory my kids won’t forget. Step onto the flower covered wrap around porch with your “real key and room number keychain” in hand and step on in. The small room was so cosy with comfy beds and had everything we needed. We were surprised when we opened the door to the circa 1950s room there was no odor. Fresh air inside and out. It was dated, but that’s what we were looking for. The room and bathroom was spotless. Pine paneling, window unit humming, blackout blinds and curtains and it turned out we slept great.

After settling in we came out to the common lawn and was greeted with a fireplace, stocked for a fire later that night. We sat around and visited with our motel neighbors, getting restaurant and entertainment advice just steps around the corner. Just beside the fire lawn, there was a convenience room stocked with teas and coffees, books, DVDs and boardgames. The kids were so excited over this fire and help yourself area.

We walked onto the sidewalk and rounded the corner, up the hill and after just a few steps we hit the charming hustle and bustle of downtown Blowing Rock. Restaurants and shops and my kid’s favorite, the hilltop park. Huge playground with giggles and flowers everywhere. My teenagers hit the small shack behind the playground and were offered basket balls, soccer balls, horseshoes and finally took them up on a pickleball set, for free. I loved watching my family laugh and make memories. So much fun recharging in the mountain breeze.

This “mountain fix” was one of my favorites. So much to do and we didn’t spend a fortune. Definitely recommend. My kids were sad to leave and said this was one of the coolest they’ve...
