Best salon in Chicago! I'm originally from California and in ten years have not been able to find a salon home (and in fact have traveled back to LA on multiple occasions just to get my hair done) despite trying all of the top places in the city. That is until I went to Jesse for a cut and Cristina for color in 2015. The salon itself is beautiful and relaxing and the entire staff is friendly and wonderful!

Jesse for cuts and style: Jesse is unbelievably talented and I'm almost scared to write this review because I want to be able to get in with her for cuts and blowouts.! I have long hair and every time I go to new places and ask for a trim at least two inches are cut off and I leave upset. The first time Jesse cut my hair she showed my how much she was going to cut and asked if it was too much and it was barely half an inch - perfection! She also cut it in a style that made it really easy for me to do on my own. And to top it off, she's really fun to talk with whether it's related to the bachelor or life advice.

Cristina for color: Cristina is the unicorn of hair colorists in Chicago. She does blonde highlights so naturally that I feel like a Californian again - a look I was unable to find here. She's amazing at translating the ideas I have into a perfect execution. She also is not trying to push ideas on me that I don't want - I have always felt pressured to come back for color every six weeks but she created a look that requires maintenance every six months which I really appreciate. She also fixed a problem I have had with hair dryness the first visit (I have been to multiple specialists so I am so grateful!).

I love this salon. I'm always excited to go. I have been getting my hair cut with Mitch since I moved to Chicago 5 years ago from NYC. I had high standards as my previous hair dresser was written up in an article in Glamour magazine. Mitch was written up in the same article and so I decided to go to him because of it... Mitch was better. I have always felt amazing walking out of the salon with a new hair cut every single time. Not only is Mitch a master of his craft but I always have fun when I go visit him. He always has interesting things to talk about with me. It's never basic and always genuine. At this point I don't just consider him my hair dresser. I consider him a friend and that's a testament to how he treats his clients. But it's not just Mitch but everyone in the salon that treats the clients with some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. It's something to be admired really. The front desk is always kind, professional, on top of things and fun. Same goes for anyone that has ever shampooed my hair or greeted me in passing. The atmosphere is a reflection of the care, artistry and joy that clearly goes into every aspect of the salon. Michael and Michael is the best in Chicago. I recommend them to all my friends and talk up Mitch to anyone looking for a new haircut. Also, they provide free bang trims and even though they're free and sometimes I worry I'm imposing, I'm always squeezed in and even if it was chaotic in the salon you'd never know. If you are looking for a salon that has an excellent support staff, colorists and stylists, Michael & Michael will be your new "home." I have been getting my hair styled and colored here for about five years. All of the stylists are very good; you can't go wrong, just try one. I usually have Nataliya or Michael style my hair because they know my natural curls and personality well. Nataliya is fantastic and spends a lot of time getting to know you and your hair. She is detail-oriented and innovative, having trained under Michael. One of the best parts of Michael & Michael is color. My colorist, Cristina, took me on as a "challenge" a few years ago. I had been coloring my hair with henna for many years, but it reached a point where my hair was uneven and damaged. Cristina happily took on my "case" and was able to match and blend the right color until the henna finally grew out of my hair over a year later. Now, Cristina does a fabulous red color for me, and I can't tell you how many times people stop to compliment me on the color. If you want a colorist who is dependable, hardworking and creative, Cristina is the one. She will tackle the most difficult color job with style and grace! FInally, all of the front desk staff and stylist/color assistants are also very polite, helpful and professional.
