My husband works at an AmericInn and knows the standards of care they should provide and uphold. We have always loved them but we have tried this hotel 3 times now and have had some sort of issue every time, so we are done trying.
When we got there this last time the front desk did not introduce themselves, they didn't tell us where our room was located, did not verify who I was, and did not have the extra towels ready for which I requested online.
When getting to the room there was hair EVERYWHERE! In the sheets, under the covers, in the shower, stuck to the shower wall, on the toilet seat, and they were not just short hairs either, there was a variety. Our shower had two conditioners inside, no shampoo. There was soap scum in the shower from the last person's bar soap it looked like. Very poorly cleaned!
We had a two night stay. When we came back the second day after being out in the town we were locked out of the room. When talking to the front desk about it they told us it was because the person that checked us in did not verify the number of days for which we were staying. They told us this happened because he was 'new' and 'it happens.'
Lastly, when we checked out at the end we told them about all of our issues and the person working the front desk offered us a full refund for our troubles, without us asking, and said she did not see a problem with it, just that she had to talk to her manager. The refund took not one not two but THREE weeks to finally happen after SEVERAL calls to the establishment asking for updates on it. Each time we called we were told that the manager and the staff that told us of the full refund were not scheduled on the same day yet so they had not talked about it. Then when getting ahold of the manager they were upset with us for not telling them right away of all of our troubles. However, each time we had gone to the front desk there was either nobody there, or no manager. Also, when we called to talk to a manager regarding the refund situation we were told SEVERAL times that they were not at work and to try again some other time. After all of that.. we were issued a one day refund and it was the cheapest day for which was refunded. The location is great. The hotel, not so much. Would recommend taking your hard earned...
Read moreThis was a pretty disappointing experience for the whopping $240 we paid. I understand that it's peak season in Duluth, but when we arrived we noticed that our room - and the entire floor - smelled like a locker room (there was a hockey team staying on our floor). The windows are bolted shut so there was no way to air the room out, but we went out to dinner hoping the smell would dissipate. It didn't. In fact, it actually seemed to have gotten worse when we got back. We spoke with the woman at the front desk (Anne) who was incredibly friendly, understanding and accommodating, but the hotel was full so there was no chance of being moved. I recommended we either receive a discount or have our money refunded and find accommodations elsewhere. She offered to see what she could do and I went to see if I could find availability elsewhere. I found another hotel for $100 less, an hour south, and called to see where things stood. The manager had told Anne to discount us $25. I said that was appreciated, but if they weren't willing to discount more, we'd really rather go to the other hotel. Anne offered to talk to her manager and call me back. When she called me back, she let me know the manager had said we'd lose the entire cost of our room if we moved, because we booked online through a third party... Pretty wretched customer service, if you ask me (I happen to know for a fact that it's at the hotel's discretion to refund our money as I travel for business constantly and have been in similar situations before - most 3rd parties are happy to accommodate if the hotel is willing to go along). I do want to emphasize that this was not Anne's fault. She did all she could to accommodate, but, from what I could surmise, the manager felt like they had us over a barrel. It's peak season, and every hotel is full, so it feels like the manager didn't really give a $*&%. My advice? Book early, and choose a nicer hotel. And to the manager who felt it was more important to get extra money out of me than ensure I was left with a decent experience, you have convinced me to never stay at a Wyndham property again (and I spent $20,000 on hotels for business travel last year). You might want to be a little more flexible next time. Corporate will also be receiving a...
Read moreCame up from the cities to take part in a friend's wedding. Landed here after being priced out of downtown hotels, which became grateful for later on.
Was able to check in on time without a wait. Joel, who was working the front desk, was extremely friendly and helpful. My reservation was for a King bed and he gave me the option of a preferred floor. I chose 3rd and was given a room facing the south lot. My room was SPOTLESS! Plenty of towels, good water pressure in the shower, great AC, plenty of sunshine. For as busy as the hotel was it was completely quiet for the 2 nights I was there. Couldn't hear other guests. There's anything you need nearby. Coffeeshops, restaurants, grocery stores, shopping malls, nail salons... There's even 2 drug stores literally within walking distance. Parking and traffic wasn't an issue at all, unlike downtown Duluth yet it was a quick 10 minute drive to get there to the event. I was so happy with my stay, it's hard to find anything negative. The only thing I could come up with has nothing to do with the hotel really. I'm a photosensitive sleeper and basically need a blacked out room to sleep in. The parking lot has super bright lights, which is great for safety and security. My room had sheer curtains so it made it pretty bright in there to sleep, but that's on me. I'd totally stay there again, I'd just remember to pack a sleep mask or ask for a room on the other side of the property. Rest assured though, your car will be safe overnight!
Check out was easy without a wait. Tony, the manager was kind and super cheery. I really appreciate the kindness I encountered with everyone there. The hospitality industry can be really difficult, especially in a pandemic where people aren't always acting from a place of kindness. I want to thank everyone there for what they do. It was a perfectly pleasant experience and would absolutely stay there again the next time I'm in Duluth....
