It was super quick and easy to find FREE parking (both across the street and a block away) even on a Saturday during the height of the busy hours for the fifth street market. My partner and I entered the strangely constructed building and appreciated the unique architecture as we approached the host stand. There was wooden panels on the ceiling and quaint tables able to seat four, six, or just two. Almost immediately the host greeted us and took us to a fantastic seat beside the windows in the upstairs dining area and for much of the experience my partner and I were lucky to basically have the section to ourselves! The window overlooked the train track and was draped with lovely white lace curtains, the tables, plates, cups, and decorations were clean and tasteful. I loved the tiny sauce plates! I swapped the one on my plate for the one my partner had because it had a really cute flower pattern. I loved the numerous white waving cats strung through the shelves and seating areas, we received water as soon as we were seated at we were provided with our own water pitcher! A++++!!! The music and quiet atmosphere of the restaurant was very soothing and enjoyable, covers of famous old songs played quietly over the speakers while we waited for our tasty carbonated beverages. My partner ordered the Ginger Ade (a delightfully tart and spiced beverage that came with a sliced lime on the rim. I went for the cherry lemonade (perfectly balanced with syrup and water with a lemon clinging to the side and a few candied cherry in the bottom of my glass) We appreciated our beverages for a moment and debated what to order. Everything from the fish to the edamame was so perfectly flavored and enticing. We received a massive amount of food, perfect for the two of us with a few left overs when we ordered the bento box. All of the ingredients were fresh, seasoned to perfection, and absolutely delicious. We picked pieces of rice out of the bento box with our fingers, we fished out fried flakes of tempura coating and licked our thumbs, we chewed the cuts of green cabbage and dipped them occasionally in soy sauce while we debated purchasing ice cream from the parlor just down the street. Our server was a kind, efficient woman who tended to our needs quickly and without difficulty. I will a hundred precent be looking forward to my next sushi craving and I hope I have the chance to share the calming atmosphere. the fantastic food, and the unique construction of the restaurant's dining areas with friends and family in the future. (they also had a sushi bar where guests could watch the sushi being made in real time in a separate part of the restaurant completely out of sight of my partner and I!!) 100% will come again and will recommend! Thank...
Read moreMy husband and I drove 3 hours to come eat here for our anniversary, and it did NOT disappoint! It may sound like a lot of travel just for some sushi, but not when you have a gluten allergy, and this place has a dedicated gluten free menu. My husband has the allergy, I do not. We ordered 2 gluten free rolls, tuna and salmon maki, and I ordered one roll for myself from the regular menu. We also enjoyed their gluten free miso soup! The rolls were spectacular! Not just the same old rolls you find everywhere, but very unique, highly thought out, and beautifully presented. Each roll we tried had its own unique sauce pairing, and these were definitely one of a kind sauces that we couldn't even identify but were SO incredibly delicious! Our favorite was the GF Love Affair which was actually our first time trying scallops. The taste, freshness, and texture of the scallops and crab meat (real! Not Krab) was amazing. They also have gluten free soy sauce available. The decor and ambience was very nice, though I did notice the seating on many of the booths was in bad shape. However, that's literally the only negative thing I have to say and judging by the quality of the food just tells me those booths have seen a lot of butts! The service was very friendly, inviting, and accommodating, and left us wanting for nothing. Definitely recommend! PS: sorry about the photo of the Love Affair roll with only two pieces left, it was so good we almost devoured it before snapping a pic! But just look at that...
Read moreI would like to start with saying how prompt the front end was with seating us(table for 2) at 7pm on a Friday night! Along with the ambience I give a big 2 thumbs up. However, that’s where the praise stops. Reading reviews praising the “purple rice” and the “ Best Sushi I have ever had” led us to pick pure. It seems the purple rice is a gimmick to lure people in and an excuse to inflate the price. The rice as expected was typical rice, although the texture was lackluster. We ordered the firecracker and the Victoria rolls. For not being starving, I would have sent both back! The sauce with the Victoria roll was reminiscent of a very basic spicy mayonnaise (not sure if that was the intentions at all), the roll was all rice and filler with very little actual fish on top( if you call that fish)! The firecracker was the even worse. I will typically eat it not to waste food however, this wasn’t something I would feed the homeless! Saving grace was the pan fried noodles w/h chicken. Very tasty, good sauce, ratio of ingredients was spot on and was enough for 2. Coming from AZ, a 4.5 star rating from 514 reviews, it being so close to the coast had my expectations very high. Overall bang for your buck and taste left me very...
