Galena Bakehouse — Restaurant in Galena

This bakery is such a treat to have nearby. Not only are the staff and owners wonderful to work with but the pastries are amazing! I have been multiple times and have my favorites but of course like to try something new each time. I have yet to be disappointed!

The Chippas are my all time favorite. This past visit I got 6 to share with friends and had eaten 2 before I even got home. The raspberry croissant is also a must have. I went around Valentine's day once and they had a specialty flavor, passion fruit, and it was unbelievable. It is not often you can find passion fruit flavored treats in the Midwest, and Galena bake house killed it with these. I get macarons at every bakery I visit and these are the best in Galena. You can tell they are housemade. And lastly the empanadas....wow! I got one of each, the buffalo chicken and spinach were my top 2.

Charming, welcoming, and TASTY! I've been a fan on instagram for awhile, and I finally got to visit in person. The baked goods were actually even better than I imagined. Everything is made by scratch. As vegetarians, we really appreciated the options for us. We loved the spinach quiche but the vegetarian empanada was incredible. We regretted not buying a few more. Our family split an assortment of the sweet treats. The almond tart was wonderful, not too sweet, and very filling. My kids loved all the different muffins. The chocolate croissant was especially incredible. I've travelled all around Europe and this was one of the most perfect, fresh, pain au chocolate I've ever had. Usually don’t write reviews, but after eating this mixed berry muffin that I picked up this morning, I felt compelled to share…. THE BEST MUFFIN IN THE WORLD. I wish I would have taken a picture of it prior, but I just could not put it down. SO GOOD!!!!!!

Also, the best empanadas I’ve ever had. That pastry is out of this world.

Very honorable mentions: Cherry scone, Lemon Muffin, cinnamon toast crunch iced latte, chocolate croissant

And honestly, probably everything else is at least very honorable mention.

Most importantly, the warmth and efficiency of the staff. It’s as much about the attitude of the team as the food: Impressed and absolutely delighted!

As condensed as downtown Galena is with so much to offer, the Galena Bakehouse is a must...
