My husband and I had been talking about making a first visit to Galena for years. After browsing through some of the wonderfully historic and quaint places to stay (we wanted to avoid commercial locations) we found that Hotel Galena and Riverboat Suites was ideal for the type of stay we were looking for. This wonderful inn exceeded our expectations. It nearly didn’t feel like we were even staying in a hotel it was so comfortable. We stayed in suite 10 which was spacious and had a lot of natural light including a skylight. There are a few extras in the room accommodations than what can often be found in very traditional B&B’s as far as comfort, tech and space while still heavily maintaining the historic charm of the original building. The bed was very comfortable and the various lighting options throughout the room allowed for easy change of ambiance. The room also had a fireplace, a large claw tub in the bathroom along with a beautiful opaque stained glass door and window in the bathroom. A large bay window faced the street in the main room with a seating area. There was also a loft with another bed that can accommodate an additional 2 people. The newer owner is very passionate about maintaining the 2 buildings that comprise this hotel and is very knowledgeable about its history as well as Galena history in general. If you have questions he is more than willing to spend time educating or just enjoying conversation with his guests. The self-serve breakfast area is easy to access and has a lot of great continental options for any palate. The hotel is right around the corner from Main Street making it easy to both walk or drive to shopping, restaurants and some of the historic attractions. Overall I highly recommend staying here. We will definitely return for...
Read moreStayed for two nights at Hotel Galena. Booking was easy, but a little confusing as Hotel Galena, Riverboat Suites and Renaissance Suites are all the same property. This is due to the fact that what was formerly Renaissance Suites now has new owners who are transitioning to the new name. Getting to the hotel was easy and it is located very close to downtown (5 minute walk) with shops and restaurants. On our day of arrival, I received a text welcoming us and asking for an ETA so that our Suite #8 could be ready when we arrived. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the new owner, Nate, and he was very welcoming and asked if we needed help with our bags. As we checked in, he provided us with some suggestions about dinner and things to do/places to see. Everything was clean and beautiful in our suite. The price point was comparable to other hotels and B&Bs in the area. Our suite included both a king and queen bed and a large jacuzzi tub. Wi-fi was free and dependable. Continental breakfast was served in the breakfast room, which Nate is planning to re-configure and enlarge soon. Ice and a microwave were available in this room as well, which was convenient since those were not in our suite. When Nate was made aware that I had gotten ice to take back to our room using a bowl, he appeared at our door right away with an ice bucket! Overall this hotel provided comfort, cleanliness and care and we would definitely...
Read moreWe recently visited Galena, IL for the first time for a girl's weekend. The room, the service, and the location all made for a great trip! We stayed in room 6, which was one of the Riverboat Suites.
The room was spacious and clean, the suite had great natural light, and the original woodwork was beautiful. We had 3 guests, so Nate made sure we also had a rollaway bed (which was surprisingly comfortable as far as rollaways go!). There was still plenty of space in the bedroom even with the rollaway. The shower pressure was great, and the large jacuzzi tub was an extra bonus after exploring the town all day.
The amenities were great. I wish we brought suits to take advantage of the hot tub on site. There were many options for breakfast (muffins, fruit, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, hardboiled eggs, coffee, etc.).
Nate was a great host. He was knowledgeable, helpful and easy to talk to. You can tell he cares about giving the best possible experience to his guests.
The location is great. Just a short walk from the flood gates - then you're right downtown near all the shops.
We'll definitely book at this location again if we visit...
