Spectacular experience at Farmers Guest House over our 8th anniversary weekend. Galena is a charming place to begin with, but the hospitality we experienced from Mark, his son Luke and Luke's wife Elaine was so exceptional. The warmth, care and attention to detail started before our arrival - working with Luke to arrange a couple's massage during our stay (excellent feature by the way to have on site) as well as back and forth communications about how thoughtful they were being to ensure we were comfortable arriving when there was construction across the street.
We stayed three nights in the Charlotte - the one suite on the main floor. A hot tub in the living room is dreamy. And although its adjacent to the dining room, we heard very little. Further, it is nice that in this one suite there is a separate entrance which was very convenient to come and go. Spacious and comfortable. What a treat to come back from long walks and add some salt and fill up a jetted tub.
The breakfast - so fun that Elaine crafts a different two course breakfast each day. Always a fruit and baked treat, followed by an egg, meat and side main course. Delightful. And we indicated the evening prior which juices and whether we also wanted to a bit of champagne for mimosas.
The mid day bottle of wine and snack box with cheese, crackers and a baked treat is also a delight - a different baked treat each day. And if we need a refill of waters, cookies, towels, soaps, we just indicated on the paper door hanger each day.
The old home has it's charm - and the dining room and sitting room are truly epic to experience.
Honestly, there isn't a complaint from this difficult to please traveller.
Thank you Mark, Luke and Elaine for the warm conversations, recommendations on places to eat, and even sharing your experiences in the business. You are...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the Cottage out back and the first words out of our mouths were "wow" when we walked in. Completely spotless, the room was set up beautifully, the hot to bath was off to the side and had room for both of us (and we are not small people). Freshly baked cookies, wine, cheese and crackers, and a Keurig with a large array of options were setup for us upon arrival. The family who operates the BnB were fantastically wonderful in ever regard. Elaine welcomed us, was very cheery and engaged and showed us around the entire facility and walked us up to our cottage. She told us once we were ready we could bring our bags in and they would help carry everything up to the cottage since they are up against a hill so stairs are inevitable. After taking that first look around the cottage we went back out to our car and brought in our bags. Sure enough, Luke was there ready to carry the heavy stuff for us! Luke's father, Mark, is a proud historian and loves to discuss the history of, well, anything! All three of them are wonderful people and genuinely care about their guests.
Oh! Not to mention their breakfast was legitimately the best food we had while in Galena. So good, in fact, we asked Elaine for a recipe!
All in all, this was a great stay and I highly recommend the Farmer's Gust House to anyone who wants a romantic getaway. Please check this place out, you won't be disappointed!
-- just as a side note, I saw some negative reviews on here... This family bought and started operating the BnB in 2019, so anything before that should not be taken into consideration if you're looking at places...
Read moreIt's all in the details! First, FGH's location alone is wonderful. In a town where parking is at a premium, the property has designated parking and is a short (and scenic) 8-min walk to main street. Next, the hospitality is bar none. We were treated like old friends the moment we arrived and every interaction with the proprietors was a joy. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable all around. But it truly was the details that made FGH our new go-to accommodations when in Galena. "Wine Time" has 1 large bottle or 4 small bottled delivered to your room with two types of cheese, crackers and a sweet from one of the local shops (homemade chocolate chip cookies anyone?). The small fridge was stocked with bottled water and the coffee bar had a Keurig with a large assortment of coffees and teas. The bathroom was appointed with luxury bath products and there was a charging station beside the bed. All items could be restocked daily by placing a hang tag outside our door. There is a lovely back garden with multiple seating areas where you can enjoy your wine. Breakfast was thoughtfully planned each morning using what was clearly unique recipes made on site. French toast casserole, thick cut bacon, homemade granola with fruit and yogurt and parmesan egg bake just names a few of the stand out breakfast items. I loved the freshly squeezed juice brought to the table in mason jars to be poured into signature juice glasses. FGH sets an impossibly high bar, even by bed and breakfast standards and we will most...
