Scent Workshop — Local services in Galena

We were really looking forward to our visit to Scent Workshop after reading so many great reviews and booking in advance. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations.

When we arrived for our 3–5 PM appointment, there was no direction whatsoever. We waited for 30 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us, and when they finally did, they gave us minimal guidance and then disappeared again. It got to the point where other customers had to step in to help our group understand what to do.

Once we finally received some instruction, we were told to come back in an hour to pick up our candles. However, this wasn’t communicated clearly beforehand, and it made no sense given that our appointment was scheduled for two hours. If we had been properly guided from the start, we could have completed the candle-making portion in about 30 minutes instead of dragging it out for an hour and a half—only to then have to leave and wait another hour and a half for the candles to set.

To make matters worse, when we returned to pick up our candles, we were not informed that they were still partially unset. ALL six of our candles spilled inside the paper bags they were placed in, completely ruining them. We essentially spent $30 per person, wasted two hours of our time (plus the additional waiting), and walked away with nothing to show for it.

Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. Better organization, clearer communication, and a more structured process would have made all the difference. Unfortunately, as it stands, I wouldn’t recommend this...

We were looking for something fun to do in town and came across the Scent Workshop. Three of us booked scent classes, 1 for a candle and 2 for the 1oz sprays (all done at the same time). None of us had ever done a class before so we were not sure what to expect, but we would 100% go back and do another one here! They break down each step along the process for you and are very knowledgeable about everything they’re talking about. They had fun throwback songs playing in the background, didn’t make us feel rushed at any point, and the overall environment was welcoming and comfortable. I was brought here to make a custom perfume as a surprise by my friends and this experience was stellar on every account! Brianne was knowledgeable, patient, helpful, and clearly passionate about her work. The pastries were also terrific, especially the pain au chocolat ! Everyone on staff was flexible, even when we accidentally showed up late, and readily available to answer any and all questions. I've made my own candles before and they have that opportunity here as well, but being told about the art and science of perfume making with noses from France and having delightful French pastries made a tremendous combination (I'm not just saying that as someone who teaches French)!
