I stayed at this hotel from June 29th to July 3rd for leisure. As a former hotelier and frequent worldwide traveler - this hotel has a number of shocks and awes -- that are definitely NOT good.
Great employees: AJ (front desk - didn't meet her - talked to her before arriving) Betty - Housekeeping Tamara - Restaurant (w/more training - she'll be even better)
Check-in: Front desk agents need additional training No recognition of Loyalty Membership - the guests have earned their status - so, the staff need to do better Thought the front desk agent Ant was a drummer and not an employee - he should NOT be interacting with people/guests Agents should provide hours on both of the hotel restaurants (rooms only had hours for one of the restaurants) as well as the hours of the poolside club that turns into a ratchet/ghetto club at night. If you are traveling during the week for business - this is NOT the hotel for you or ask for a room away from the poolside. Of note - the rooms closest to the pool are the upgraded/waterview rooms but you will experience a lot of noise from the club when the club is open - NOT GOOD).
Front Desk: Need more customer service training, training, training Called the front desk to ask about the hours - only for me to realize the telephone handset wasn't working (needs to be fixed in 904), immediately called back using the speaker phone and Konye didnt answer the phone, and then called using my cell and she answered. The calls were separated by seconds - so not good. Thankfully no emergency - but this wasn't the first time I called the front desk and no one answered.
Dining Room: Hours are posted outside the door - didn't open on time one morning Windows and doors should be cleaned (front door had handprints as did some of the windows No guest should have to ask for a knife and fork System was down - understood - but inform the guests via signage and not as they enter the restaurant.
Bar Staff overwhelmed Food and Beverage is a moneymaker at most hotels - but not this one - as most of the staff were deep in conversation versus quickly taking and fulfilling orders Bar Manager - only realized she was employed by the hotel after seeing a nametag. Wow is all I can say - as most managers I've ever encountered - jump in and help their staff members. Bartender had to be reminded several times by guests about making an order, status of their order, and paying for their bill. A lot of loss revenue - guests don't like to wait long. The payment system was down and payment could only be made by cash - not one staff member thought to post signage in the hotel, front desk, etc. - guests walked out of the hotel to the bar to see the signage of cash only. The guests then had to walk back around to the front of the hotel or wait for someone to come to open the door to obtain cash - as the door to the restaurant was locked.
This was also the case of walking around if you had to go to the bathroom. NOT good for any guest - much less anyone with a disability or elderly.
The restaurant was closed and signage posted about the bar by the water - but guests had to know the difference between the restaurant names to realize there was a difference or one restaurant would be opening later.
Rooms Clean Water in the shower took a while to heat up Rooms decorated nicely with very large, modern day televisions Advertisement and hours for both restaurants needed (only one restaurant's hours is in the rooms) - front desk wasn't aware of the lack of signage.
Parking Required to pay a $10 daily fee and the parking garage is FREE. Told by the front desk my car would be towed after midnight - I never saw a tow truck. Not worth the money - on weekends, street parking is free.
Club The guests started lining up in the lobby by the elevators.....the hotel needs to consider another location - seeing some of the club patrons took this Hilton from a 3 star to 1 star, Motel 6...
Read moreWe both stay at Marriotts and Hiltons all over the country. Like other reviews state, this one should be shut down.
I have stayed previously at the Landing and expected a positive experience. Even though it was RT an hour out of the way of our destination, I told my mom it surely would be worth the drive. Unfortunately this was very much not the case.
The entire hallway that our room was on reeked of trash and puke. Gross! The culprit was a MOUND of trash and linens piled right next to our door. We let ourselves into our room. It was relatively clean and smell free. As we went back downstairs, we mentioned the trash pile and smell to the desk. He profusely apologized and said he would go and clean it up himself. The next morning, the mound of smelly trash was still there.
We ate the self-serve breakfast. The waitress filled our coffee before we sat down (which was nice), but we never saw her again. We had to ask someone else for a top up and he grouchily filled them. No one cleared our plates, only to dropped the bill. They had not added my honors discount and they added a gratuity of $5 for no service whatsoever. When I paid, I didn't mention the tip, but I asked why my discount was not deducted. The lady said I had to pay and then they would reimburse me. That never happened.
As we packed up, both my mom and I started to feel queasy. We both had food poisoning. I called the front desk and was refused a late check out. I said we would be down ASAP. I am trying to avoid being graphic, but I could not leave the bathroom. Not 5 min after check out, housekeeping is knocking on the door (5th floor end of the hallway)and asks why we haven’t left yet. Could they not start cleaning the other rooms first? I told her that I was sick and would be out ASAP. 2 min later, a guy comes to our door to demand why we haven’t left. I am trying to answer the door in between getting sick and they won’t leave us alone. They keep banging on the door every 2 min and within 10 min of the checkout time, there are 5 people outside the door. I told all of them the situation but they kept on.
My mom wasn’t as bad off as I was but she had a very important phone call to do with statewide educational funding. It is the most important meeting of the year for her organization. She wasn’t planning on taking the call there, but we couldn’t leave because I was SICK.
After answering the door 5 times, I stopped answering and called the front desk. I was in the bathroom and trying to ask the front desk to tell them to quit sending people to the door. While I am trying to talk to the front desk and my mom is on her important call, they are banging on the door and yelling (OPEN THE DOOR!) Thankfully I had the metal door block on because they tried to let themselves in!!!! And then they kept slamming it into the metal door block and yelling OPEN THE DOOR! I should have called the police at that point because we were not even 20 min after the check out time.
My mom had to pause her meeting and tell them I was sick and in the bathroom and we would be down ASAP. She said I was talking to the front desk and that I can’t hear over your yelling. The lady said “How could she possibly be talking to the front desk in the bathroom?” With a cell phone?
When we checked out, my nerves were so shot from being harassed and sick I just wanted to leave as quickly and peacefully as possible. As we walked from the elevator to the desk, the 3 ladies standing as the desk stared us down with the nastiest looks the whole way. They didn’t ask how our stay was or anything. I need to emphasize that it was (STILL NOT EVEN 30 MIN AFTER CHECK OUT TIME). I asked the desk lady for my receipt. When she gave it to me, she said if I didn’t want people opening my door, I should have communicated better.
Come here if you want to be treated like a criminal, overcharged, and given a $50 late check out fee even though it was because you got food poisoning from...
Read moreEdit 4/1/25 - I don't know what kind of operation these people are running but at the time of check-in the hotel put a $150 hold on our card for "incidentals" when 3 weeks earlier, according to another reviewer, the incidentals hold was $50. Like the other reviewer we didn't get all of that money back because they allegedly charged us parking for 2 cars when they only issued 1 parking permit for our 1 car. I think they are trying to sneak small charges in on people hoping they won't notice. I wonder how many people haven't?
The king room is gross. Upon entering you are greeted by an empty space of probably 150 - 200 ft² with a giant mirror and floor tile with a "dirty look" design so you can't tell if the floor is clean or dirty. The bathroom that you pass before making it to the main living area is adorned by a sliding BARN DOOR because who needs privacy. The ceiling above the sink is awkwardly low to account for the a/c ductwork to the other side I assume. The toilet paper holder is out of reach. The shower door does not close all the way, soaking the floor. Also you will spend the majority of your shower trying to get the correct water temperature, otherwise your options are cold and scalding. There's a vent next to the shower head that is covered in what I hope to be lime scale. There is a second shower head, a handheld, that is no longer height adjustable and just falls back down to waist height. The provided soaps and shampoos smell like a big burly lumberjack, so ladies do not forget your toiletries like I did.
The bed is on the short wall that in every other hotel in the universe houses only a thermostat and maybe a painting, leaving the TV next to the bed instead of at the foot. The desk is placed awkwardly near the foot of the bed (instead of the wide open unused space in the entry) leaving only about an 8-in gap to squeeze through to get to that side of the bed which itself is only about 12" from the wall. There's a weird round chair in front of the window and a wooden wall locker that looks like it was taken from an army barracks room. All of the wall decor is cluttered above the bed. There's nothing but hopes and dreams on the longest wall in the room.
Since the bed is on the thermostat wall it is also now directly under the air conditioning vent which blows black particles from the decaying ductwork all over the room.
The elevators take forever to arrive at whatever floor you are waiting on. The walk to and from the parking garage is littered with garbage. The nightlife is alive and well within the walls of the Landing on the weekends. We learned the hard way that this is a party hotel for the locals (the walls are paper thin). There was no place to park at reception to check in because there were party goers parked everywhere and even blocking the lane while they were out taking selfies.
Honestly my biggest beef with this hotel was the bed location and room arrangement. The bed being on the wrong wall made the whole room feel icky and uncomfortable but wasn't quite so bad once we figured out that was the main cause of our unease. It looks like whoever decorated and arranged the furniture was a freshmen drop out recruited from the college across the street.
The best part of our stay here was my husband reading the 1 star Google reviews aloud in bed on our second night after once again questioning why in the hell I booked such an awful hotel (the Priceline reviews showed 4.5 stars full of lies). We laughed to tears at some because we were living the exact same life those other reviewers were complaining about. Because of that entertainment I've added a second star, otherwise we're sitting at a solid 1. Don't let the online photos fool you.
In summary, if you're down with Motel 6 quality at Hilton rates, look no further, this...
