While small in stature this museum is pack with gem's. Currently showing is a Civil War Journey by Private Robert Kox Sneden. These are drawings by the Private while he was imprisoned. They are very good for being just from memory. Staff members Mike is fantastic and informative, Miss Kay the gift shop staffer is a long time Hampton resident, I purchased three items which she wrap with care as if she was carry them away herself. One other thing I'd like to thank Mike for the late lunch recommendation the Fish was delicious.

This museum was so cool! I homeschool with my daughter and this was a must see spot. Great artifacts, so educational. Mostly in the civil war period. Took my daughter and her best friend and had a lot of fun. Loved the exhibits. My favorite piece was probably the old carousel, truly beautiful! Too bad I didn’t get a pic of it. We also got in free because of their military star program. My husband is currently serving and is on deployment. They have a special program for military.

It is a pretty nice museum within the visitors center but beware of the staff. The guy I talked to yesterday was quite loud and mean. I wasn’t aware it costed to enter the museum and he yelled at me! I got in free because of my military ID, but I feel like he should have approached the situation differently. I assumed that because it was inside a visitors center, it was free to enter.

Absolutely outstanding! Like Hampton itself (seemingly overshadowed by heavyweight colonial history in the region), the museum may not be terribly large, but it has a thorough, well-curated set of exhibits to narrate the fascinating history of Hampton, highlighting particularly those things that put it on the map: the 1619 arrival of the first Africans in America at Point Comfort; the "Gibraltar of the Chesapeake" at Fort Monroe, which remained in Union hands through the Civil War and fatefully was a refuge for runaway slaves, making emancipation a war objective; the Reconstruction establishment of what is today Hampton University (alma mater of Booker T. Washington); and, the story of the mathematician women at Langley Research Center who helped literally launch America into the Space Age, now more widely known about from the movie "Hidden Figures". Hampton can hold its own amidst other historical towns in Tidewater Virginia, and this museum does a wonderful job of showing and telling those...

Micheal Cloonan or the older man with the glasses is the absolute worst tour guide ever, acted very discriminate towards me on my visit and assume negative things about when I said I was visiting the museum for my class and need a reciept or some type of proof of visit for my class. He told me that I was just come to get a receipt signed by an employee and just leave the museum without looking. I have never ever been spoken to like that and who is he to assume such thing to someone he doesnt even know. I'm going to report this incident because he does not deserve to be in the role that he is in. I will never visit this museum or recommend this to any...
