Is Being Black in America still a thing? I have been to this place more than once and this was the first time I actually ate. Every time I come here I get a bad vibe and bad service. I have left and went some where else. I love the atmosphere by the water but never experience it. Today I asked for an outside table and they told me I can sit anywhere I liked. I explained the outside tables were not clean but I would wait. The lady said she would be right out. I am on a crutch cause a bone in my right food is broken and there was no accommodations ever suggested. I hate to use the white card as a African american female but this place was full of white folks. A couple came in behind me and they so kindly explained how their service works to them smiled and offered them an outside table and make them feel welcomed. We will take your order and bring it to you. I go out to my table to see once she wiped it off someone else had sat so she wiped off another table, I thanked her and said is it possible to take my order since I am on a crutch and it takes a lot to walk back and forth and she refused. So I go back in and by this time it is a long line so I sit at the bar and another ladies asked if I needed to order. I say yes and she demands that I stand on the back of the line. I explain I am on a crutch and can not stand for long and when I first came in no one was here. She says we are busy and didn't know you had a disability like she did not see my crutch. They then take my order and say we will bring it to you. Waitress has my food in my hand but stops and talks to another table over my food in her hands. I mean it is 2025 Are we still giving bad service to the Black girl while smiling and catering to everyone else who is not black like they are...

We went here on Labor Day weekend being mentally and time prepared to spend some extra time at a restaurant knowing that it may be busy. But, we ordered no problem and the woman was very nice. Problem was that we ended up waiting an hour for two meals and an appetizer. The app didn’t even come out when it was ready. It came when the meals did. Other guests were also very frustrated with having waited so long and it really was not even busy. By the time we left, it was closer to dinner time and it was starting to fill up. The waitress said it was because the oven was overloaded. But we would have happily still ordered beer and NO food if she mentioned that to us when we ordered since they knew what was going on. Waited an hour to get food and it wasn’t even worth the wait. And let me tell you, I was hungry by then so anything would have tasted good. But the burger needed seasoning and they didn’t give us silverware and didn’t give us one of our chips (which is prepackaged mind you so no time spend getting that ready). The two coleslaws had drastically different amount of Mayo in them and I assume those are already pre portioned and set out. So… half our food was pre made ready to go but it took an hour.. we knew it could be busy but that was ridiculous and they should have mentioned that when we were ordering instead of making it seem like everything was all good. Great...

A brewery with bad beer and worse food... We stopped for dinner and a few beers on a Sunday evening. Oddly, the place was empty. We ordered our food and got glasses of the Tropical hard seltzer and the White Caps milk stout. The seltzer looked much different than any we've had. It's pineapple and tangerine which should have been mind-blowing. Sadly it wasn't. The milk stout was strange and left an after taste of Fritos or Corn Nuts. Next we tried the Triple X. Like bitter bubblegum. The Trippen Jack Double stout was average, but the best of what we tried. We ordered the crab dip and pretzels as our appetizer. It took an hour and 10 minutes to get it. Very weird flavor and definitely not fresh crab. 2 of us ordered the crabcake sandwich. Very small mushy and flavorless on a huge bun. We got a Supreme pizza, crust seemed frozen. Toppings were sub par, canned mushrooms and way too much cheap cheese. The pesto turkey sandwich was just ehh. Because of the incredibly slow and awful service they said they were discounting our bill. When paying the bill we saw that it was a 10% military discount. We are not military, nor was 10% a sufficient discount for this horrendous experience. As if all that wasn't bad enough, the decor and atmosphere was just depressing. No friendly smiling faces here either. Tables were dirty. We gave it one star because NO stars is...

I hosted a surprise party/gathering at Bull Island Brewing for my husband's official ordination at the VA United Methodist Conference. It was attended by family and friends who mostly all drove in from Richmond specifically for this gathering. That can be a bit nerve racking - wanting them to feel like their drive was worthwhile. And it absolutely was! Bull Island Brewing ended up being the perfect spot to gather, enjoy snacks/lunch/drinks and time together. The staff was so incredibly friendly and attentive and the food/drinks were awesome. We'll definitely be back! :) Big thank you to Lisa who helped me to plan things and who was very patient with my thousands of questions, haha. I'm really grateful! ps. The pretzel bites - to die for! I'm kind of glad I don't live closer because they would be the end of my fitness goals, haha.
