I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn and had a very mixed experience. While there were some positive aspects, several significant issues made my stay quite unpleasant.
Firstly, the lack of Wi-Fi in the rooms is completely unacceptable in this day and age. It's 2024, and having reliable internet access is a basic necessity for both business and leisure travelers. The wifi was unavailable in the room (RM 500) for most of our stay.
Secondly, the EV charging situation was a nightmare. As someone who drives an electric vehicle, I specifically chose this hotel because it advertised EV charging stations. However, every single night, most of the EV charging spaces were occupied by gas cars. Despite paying $11 per night for parking, I was unable to charge my vehicle once during my stay. I informed the hotel staff about this issue multiple times, but they were either unwilling or unable to enforce the proper use of the EV spaces. This lack of enforcement and consideration for EV drivers was extremely frustrating and added unnecessary stress to my trip.
Speaking of staff, the employee during the evening service was horrible. Every interaction I had with the staff, from check-in to inquiries about the EV charging issue, was met with indifference and a lack of effort to provide good service. It felt like they didn’t care about the guests’ experiences at all. This level of poor service is inexcusable and significantly detracts from the overall experience.
On the positive side, the breakfast was good. There was a decent variety of options, and everything was fresh and tasty. Additionally, the room condition was good. It was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which was a relief given the other issues I faced during my stay.
However, the good breakfast and comfortable room were not enough to make up for the major inconveniences and poor service. Overall, my experience at the Hampton Inn was far from satisfactory. The lack of Wi-Fi in the rooms, the mishandling of EV charging spaces, and the horrible employee service overshadowed any positive aspects of the hotel. I would not recommend staying here, especially if you rely on internet access, need to charge an electric vehicle, or expect decent customer service. There are plenty of other hotels that offer better amenities and services for the same...
Read moreI am Hilton HHonors member which means I stay at a lot of different Hilton properties and Hampton hotels and a lot of different states around the country.
This hotel has a gated locked parking garage. That is a good thing considering the area you are in. The area around the hotel is pretty sketchy and let's just say there is a reason they have a gated secured locked parking garage. So props to them for having one. But nonetheless, I guess you are figuring out that the area around the hotel is not very safe or nice looking.
The advantage to the location is that it is quite close to the airport, so if you have an early flight and need to get up early, it's not very far away. Or likewise if you were coming in late, it's probably a pretty good location. I would not choose this location if you wanted to be out and about walking around and enjoying the area. That being said and California being what it is, I drove a mile or two away and there were some really nice shopping areas with restaurants etc. but there was a huge difference in the look and feel of the neighborhood 1 mi to the next.
The room itself was clean but it was definitely a dated older Hampton. The furniture and furnishings in the room were indecent and fair condition though. It had a decent size fridge and microwave though so credit for that. The bed was comfortable enough and I got a decent, nice sleep, although the area lent itself to a little more noise if you know what I mean.
The bathroom was older style and kind of dated tiles etc. and had the old style tub versus an actual shower stall that they have and the more newer modern or refurbished Hampton inns.
The fitness center was pretty decent actually for this hotel and they had a peloton as well as a bench and some dumbbells that went up to 50 lb. They had a decent selection of cardio machines and treadmills for you to choose from and it was not a cramp space so again credit for that.
Breakfast was fairly typical as far as Hamptons go with instant scrambled eggs, sausage and hash browns as well as the typical toast pastry and waffles. I think. There were a couple of selections of fruit as well.
Again, the location is in close proximity to the airport which makes it nice but definitely be aware it is not a neighborhood that I would be out walking around a lot...
Read moreMy family stayed for four nights. We had mixed feelings about it, so here are our thoughts.||Pros: |Very close to the airport car rental locations. (I never get car rental insurance, but decided to after the bus ride out of the airport. Didn't use it, but still worth it in LA.)||Only heard one plane fly over the whole time.||Close to Southern LA attractions. (18 miles to Universal, took us over an hour, didn't try Disney. Not far from Kia or BMO Stadiums.)||Free Parking garage (Gated and shared with another hotel.) I refuse to pay $50 a night for parking.||Very tall ceilings and crown moldings, gives it a cool vibe.|Close to main roads. (Requested the back and it was very quiet.)|Staff was great!|Regular Hampton breakfast, but they also give you the option for chocolate or blueberry waffles. Think the mix actually had real blueberries.||Lots of Mexican food options. ||Cons:|Not a horrible neighborhood (for LA), but you won't want your family walking around at night. Nicer restaurants are 10 minutes away. ||Some Hamptons seem to be changing to very firm beds with a pad over for some comfort. Very disappointed in this change. Bed was hard as a rock under the pad.||Hot tub wasn't hot, and was a little dirty. Not sure if California makes them keep the temp below 100.||We were in a non-smoking room, but the bathroom reeked of Pot for two days. Probably came in from other room vents. Ended up leaving the vent fan on and opening the window to fix the problem. The room was very humid and smelled like it, so opening the window was a must. Fortunately the temps were in the high 60s so it didn't effect the temp in our room. Not sure what you would do when it gets in the 80s.||Wish they would put insulation in the walls. People next door didn't talk loud, but you could hear the steady hum of conversation all night. ||Summary: If you are in for a quick trip or need to be in southern LA it's a nicer place to stay. Not to far from some less well known beaches. If you have more to do in the north for a longer stay, there might be better options. Pasadena or Glendale could be more convenient, but it all...
