I felt it necessary to share our experience as it was truly the worst we’ve ever had! My husband and I checked in last night looking forward to a hot tub room as we’ve been working hard and came across on the ferry. Winter in Seldovia is pretty hard work wise, so last nights stay is about a week of pay...we truly just wanted to treat ourselves for a night. When we checked in the guy was very sweet and offered to have maintenance fill up the hot tub as he said it takes about an hour. We thought perfect, we can go have dinner and drinks then head back to the room. When we arrived to the room the hot tub was overflowing and about 2-3 inches of water covered the entire floor! We carefully packed our things and reported to the office. Again he was very sweet and quickly moved us to another room. We enjoyed the hot tub but quickly realized the thermostat was not working properly and we had to keep opening the window to cool off, single digit temps outside. Finally it was cool enough and fell asleep about 4am no longer sweating. We were woken up at 5am to our front door being blown or kicked open. Pretty scary when it is a keyless entry! I will always deadbolt going forward! Then again woken up at 8:30 because the hot tub automatically came on!!! No wonder the other overflowed! Super creepy! Once awake someone was moving furniture around upstairs so that was it. I normally do not like to complain as I worked retail management for years but this experience was unacceptable I had to share it. When checking out the lady upfront made it sound like our fault for overflowing the tub and not deadbolting the door making the experience even worse!!! We were expecting a bit of a discount we were assured at 5am we would receive one but did not. Never again will we spend our hard earned money at a Best Western especially the Bidarka! We will continue to use Lands End for all...
Read moreThe customer service was fantastic. Everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful, professional. The breakfast was SO good. Like everyone else, we expected a small variety of to-go options (muffins, bagels, etc)... we were pleasantly surprised to see a huge buffet with tons of options! And again, great service. The beds and linens were clean. The beds are comfortable. Unfortunately, the pets are designated in one building, and our pet room was gross. The carpet hadn't been cleaned in a long time and it's probably past being able to be cleaned. It should be replaced. Thankfully our dog is very well behaved, otherwise I wouldn't have been surprised if he had lifted a leg on the bed corner or the table leg or something else. I leaned down to clip his leash on and got a whiff... other dogs have definitely gone potty in that room and it smells horrible. I wasn't comfortable walking around in our room without socks on, for sure. I can't imagine what our poor dog was going through trying to relax in that space with all the smells. Our room was on the ground level and I found our full-size sliding window was unlocked. Our outdoor light bulb was also unscrewed. The little sink didn't drain well, so it was dirty. The TV power bar wasn't turned on, so we fought with that for a while before getting the TV to work. Apparently, this building also houses employees with their dogs. One morning another person in the building let their dogs out loose and then was yelling for them out the door at the top of their lungs, at about 6AM. The only reason I would consider staying here again would be the service and...
Read moreThe Best Western Bidarka Inn is in a great location in Homer. The employee at the front desk was very helpful when we checked in, providing us with a wealth of info. While the room may have been a little dated, the accommodations were still comfortable and had everything that we needed during our stay. They also have a restaurant/bar called the Otter Room that had pool tables and such. It seemed to be pretty popular in the evening but we didn't utilize it. The breakfast options offered by the hotel sounded pretty great - it included an omelet bar. The room also had the basics of shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. Internet service worked great too. We got a pretty decent rate by utilizing a AAA discount, so be sure to look into that option if you have it. Our room was located on the top floor and was relatively quiet. Some rooms may have a view, ours only had a "peek-a-boo" view of the water if you looked hard enough. There was some road noise due to the occasional overly loud truck driving down the road. Really the only thing that may be an issue depending on who checks into the rooms on either side of you, is that the walls are a bit thin. We could hear our neighbors alarm clock in the morning and bits and pieces of their conversations. Overall this hotel met the bill for our needs with its convenient location, value, comfy accommodations and easy parking! Would definitely...
