Homer Seaside Cottages — Hotel in Homer

We had a large group of family and we rented the Bungalow on the Beach and the La Serena Cottage. Both places were great! The Bungalow is beautiful and right on the beach. It had a wonderful deck with a nice gas grill and a great kitchen. There is even a washer and dryer which we used a number of times. The bedrooms in both cottages were very comfortable and clean. The owner and the cleaning service really went above and beyond for us. We checked out in a rush and forgot a few things. First, right after we left, the cleaning person managed to find us at the wonderful bakery next door to bring a small item my sister had forgotten. Then after we returned to Anchorage we realized that my daughter had left a beloved stuffed animal in her bed at the cottage. I contacted the owner and she spoke with the cleaning people, They found the stuffed animal and mailed it to us in Wisconsin! It just arrived and I have one happy daughter :). We were assured that the cottage had been well-sanitized prior to arrival. The bed covers were dirty and the place had not been thoroughly cleaned. Subsequent to departure, and without our consent, we were charged a $250 cleaning fee! Not a misprint! The owner claimed it was because a glass was broken (true -- my 4 year old dropped a cheap drinking water glass) and that seashells had been stepped on outside on the deck! Seashells! Not a misprint. I offered to pay $10 for a broken glass, and they indicated they would charge $250! I understand they are struggling with vacancies, but this is no way to...
