I'd heard about this bookshop in Homer from a guy I met at tasting event. He said he bought his daughter a leather bound book here.
I put it down on my list to check out next time I was in Homer. Lo and behold, I spent almost two hours there and bought 6 books.
If you like organization, this is NOT the place for you. But if you like or love books, OMG. The books are organized by category like kids, fiction, war, philosophy, poems, Alaska, cookbooks, etc. There are even lots of leather bound early editions of books pre-1900 but you'll be paying a lot for them.
The book prices are all inside the front cove and most range from $5-20.
There was even a cafe next door filled with books but it was closed on Sunday.
The bookshop worker was an awesome local guy with great information.
You will definitely spend $50+ for some good books and it'll be worth every penny and hour...

I bought a few books here that I was led to believe were reasonably priced, but found out immediately afterward I had been ripped off. If a book is $50 here, it's $15 online. If a book is $20 here, it's $5 online. I won't be going back. Worth noting that one book was marked at its original price, listed on the back of the book, despite being, of course, used and not exactly anything special. I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to have been paying for with the ridiculous prices. Interesting selection, lots of useless books no one will ever want hiding some real gems (that can be found cheaper online, including shipping,...
Read moreThe books here are interesting, and the shop has a lot of potential, albeit a complete fire hazard. A visit by my mom and I ended on a truly bizarre note. The owner became quite defensive and told us he was pissed off when I asked to bargain on the price of a small book. A simple, good-natured question in a retail, second hand setting has never been met with such awkwardness. It turned a quick trip into a memorable, and not in a good way, experience. My mom and I were both quite puzzled and uncomfortable, but have had some good laughs about it. For a future customer's benefit, don't even try to bargain, unless you are in the mood for an uncomfortable...
