I needed a place to stay by myself for the night in Homer and the pioneer was exactly what I needed. ||First, the room itself was great. Since I was there by myself, I got one of the smaller rooms. But, there was a big comfortable bed with a nice size fridge, microwave, hot plate, coffee, and dishes. They have various size rooms, including a larger one with a full kitchen and a family size cabin. There is also a cute playground which my kids would love. I will definitely come back with the family when I have more time. ||The location is also perfect. It is right as you come into town, just down the street from the supermarket, minutes from the spit, and walking distance to a variety of restaurants. In the room, they provide many suggestions for places to eat, including suggestions for breakfast and casual or fancy dinners. Few places think to provide such helpful information.||As nice as the room and location were, what puts Pioneer over the top is the ownership. They were so accommodating. My band was in town for a show and I knew I was not going to get back to my room until very late that night. I asked for a late check out and explained why. Not only did they happily allow me to check out late, but they also came to my show! They were so friendly and helpful. In all my years of travel, I’ve never...
Read moreWe were in Homer to visit some friends for one night and needed a hotel close to downtown and the spit. The Pioneer Inn was reasonably priced and had good reviews, so we booked a room. We were not disappointed. This is a small, family hotel. The rooms are not large, but are very well equipped. Some real glasses, dishes and (most importantly) a real drip coffee maker, with real coffee that you use a real scoop to put in a real filter, so you can enjoy it in a real coffee cup the way YOU like it! And my girlfriend loved the bath towels.||Check in/Check out was touchless and easy (the send you an email with everything you need to know to get in your room), and the room had more information about entertainment and life in Homer than one could ever ask for.||The only small issue I have is that the rooms are accessed from a "porch" walkway, and the only window looks out to that walkway. Given our room's location on the first floor in a corner of the building, we had a fair amount of traffic on the walkway outside our window, which meant we had to keep the curtains closed for privacy. But that's just a function of this type of hotel and seems to be pretty much the norm for Homer, so it wasn't a big deal to us.||Overall, a very pleasant stay and we would certainly return to it next time we...
Read moreThis place deserves more than a 5 star rating. I really cannot think of anything bad to say. Awesome, friendly owners who will do anything in their power to make sure you have a comfortable stay. We have a full truck of camping gear, and didn't need to unload anything, our kitchenette had it all. I thought the door in the back was the bathroom, it wasn't. It was a whole nother bedroom, with a king bed. The pictures on the walls are of the owners family and personal triumphs, including building a fantastic boat by hand. Not glorified, sugar coated posters and murals that are found by googling Alaska, giving tourists the constant misrepresentation of what this state really is. The flowers and presentation are perfect, with the owners themselves seen watering and caring for it all themselves. Not a hired in crew. I have been all over this state for the past 20 years, and this place takes the cake for my Homer experience. I'll be a definite future customer. A 10 on a 1-5 scale. It is always the little things, and Pioneer Inn alone has made our trip...
