I stopped in here on the way back from a visit to the end of Homer and was really happy I did. This is a beautifully done nature center with lots of exhibits about the local ecosystem and the ocean that surrounds it. It has some really knowledgeable staff who will let you know about where to see what makes the area uniquely Alaska.
There are some really pretty marshlands/wetlands behind the center, just a short walk down a nice path to visit. I went out there and saw some shorebirds and the grasses were a nice fall color since I was there in October. There's just so much natural beauty here, as far as you can see. I loved how quiet the area is, it really made my heart calm to just be there in the stillness of the area. If you're looking for a relaxing and informative hour or so in the Homer area, I would definitely stop in and check this Visitor Center out. 👍
TIPS: The Center is free of charge to visit and has public restrooms. The parking lot is also nicely paved and free to use. If you stop in, definitely have a chat with a staffer about the area and the Center, they're...
Read moreMe and my school went on this trip recently and it was so much fun and exciting. I’ve learned so much about the things around me and how nature works around me. I’ve got to seen so many cool animals and learn things about them all thanks to the amazing educators. I loved how they showed us and helped us learn about the marine environment. They are super kind and knowledgeable about the environment! I’m very grateful for this learning opportunity to get a better understanding of how our environment works. I definitely loved the sea stars! I loved the things we made with the beads I’m so sorry I forgot what they were called but it was fun! I loved everything and everyone involved in this experience! Thank you so much...
Read moreReally nice, free museum with a surprisingly broad range of exhibits. I would say that it's oriented more towards families but as a single 30 something adult I found it to be interesting enough to spend 45 minutes there. Information about local wildlife, ecology, conservation and the world war 2 battle between Japan and the US in the Aleutian islands. There are two 15 minute movies you can watch. I didn't watch either of them but I saw others who did.
Short walk from here to Bishop's Beach to get a first-hand experience of the ocean life. Stop at Two Sisters Cafe along the way to fuel up for the journey (or to treat yourself for making so many good...
