NOT impressed with any aspect of this business. Customer service was seriously lacking. I waited patiently for an employee to finish with current customer, then employee left to do other things (never even greeted me). At least 7 people were working in highly visible areas and it took over 5 minutes of me standing there before anyone even offered a greeting. Employee seemed "bothered" by having to stop to help me. I watched as employees touched the food....I know she never washed her hands prior to this (she used the paper that was sitting under the sandwich, but used her thumbs on top of the bread to balance it as she lifted it and played it). It doesn't come across as the cleanest place (as I watched people sweeping, but not carefully -disturbing dust in food areas as well as lifting and carrying dust pan at waist height around food areas). Lastly, I can't believe how much I paid for items that were not tasty at all! The chocolate chip cookie had a strange flavor to it, I couldn't stomach more than 2 bites. The brownie was absolutely awful, no idea what ingredient they use that made it so bad....didn't taste anywhere near a normal, let alone good, brownie. The chocolate mousse was smooth texture, but overly sweet....more sweet than Chocolate. The chocolate cupcake with caramel filling was awful. Caramel wasn't cooked enough...it was just sweet, a little more cooking would have developed a more beautiful color as well as a more rounded caramel taste (hint of bitter)...though it was of a good consistency/texture for a filling. The chocolate frosting was more sweet than anything else, no where near enough Chocolate flavor. The cake itself was awful. It was so dry I was almost choking it down. As a pastry chef, I was beyond disappointed with this little eatery. Maybe their sandwiches are better than their sweets, but they should either change their recipes, use higher quality ingredients, or stop...
Read moreMy first time visiting- I showed up about 10 minutes after they opened. There was a long line outside waiting to get in. I love rhubarb so I got a rhubarb danish and a rhubarb- raspberry scone. I also tried a veggie savory and a turkey sandwich from their "born yesterday" half price basket. I appreciate that basket because it allowed me to try more items. They were all delicious, but the rhubarb danish was my favorite. The next day. . . Yes, I went back 2 days in which I normally never do! I showed up 10 minutes before they opened and was 5th in line. I tried the Hungarian mushroom soup and it was incredible! I'm not a huge mushroom fan or anything but this soup was so flavorful! Just incredible! It's the kind of thing where you're making enjoyable noises the entire time you're eating it. I got another rhubarb danish too. Staff were friendly and courteous can the line moves fairly quickly. I have seen some previous reviews complaining about them bringing politics into their business. I assume they're referring to a couple flags displayed which are simply pro-kindness. I guess some people confuse that as political. If I am ever in Homer again I will visit as often as possible. Side note, either Google or the business needs to change this from showing up as a hotel in...
Read moreBeen a while since we visited Dos Hermanas but gave it a try again for nostalgia's sake. Sad to say the convivial ambience we remember was no longer in attendance. Instead it's a line them up, get their order, and get them out the door establishment. Gone is the friendly Café style coffee shop bakery we remember. The staff we encountered were friendly enough with warm smiles, but the atmosphere overall was far colder than their smiles would suggest. Sadder still the coffee we were given was tasteless and watery. No excuse for that when there's so many good coffee varieties readily available, even here in Homer. We'll cherish the memories of our first visits and expunge those of our recent one. Doubt we will be back… The warmth and hospitality we remember has been deprecated in the name of efficiency, and the Sisters have turned the café into a production line. But efficiency is not hospitality, and the latter was sorely lacking on this rainy Wednesday. Yes, the pastries were well done, but the bums rush atmosphere made them impossible to...
