I never leave reviews. However, there was no way I couldn’t after our stay here. Us nerds swarm into Indianapolis for GenCon. If you do not book early you are probably going to end up in a hotel 15 miles away. I say this because having been here before I know the hospitality industry is on defcon 5 for a week or so.
It’s easy to get frustrated or not be on the top of your game with the amount of traffic coming through your hotel. Hotel workers snap or look visibly frazzled it’s part of the norm.
However, here at the InterContinental that was not the case not once. You could not tell at all that this massive event was going on. I don’t think I came in or out of the hotel without the door being held for me or getting a smile and a nod from the valet. There was always a “Enjoy your day at the con!” When I walk out in the morning and a “Hope you had a good time!” Every time I came back. If my hands were really full they often came in and got the elevator for me as well.
My child is neurodivergent so a few times he stopped to talk and make comments or random chatter to the guys working the door. A lot of times in other situations he’s gets a few nod la or a quick sentence to keep them moving. The guys working the door gave him their full attention keeping the conversation going until we walked away which as a parent of a neurodivergent child those small considerate gestures mean the world to us.
The front desk was amazing we had quite a few packages or food deliveries come through the lobby. Again always greeted with a smile and was given exceptional service. I came down because we did not have hot water. Most of the hotels we stay at lead with the excuse of “The Hotel is packed so hot water sometimes isn’t available” Here I let the manager who was at the front desk know and within ten minutes maintenance was at our door fixing the issue.
The housekeeping team was so quick and efficient. Again always smiling and friendly.
This part of the review is the most important part for me personally. I had come down to ask for packet of salt from the bartender. There was a man sitting at the bar who was obviously on his way to a good buzz. When I asked the bartender the man piped up with probably one of the most bizarre and crude comments I had heard in a long time. The bartender went into the back and very quickly got me what I needed. I am not sure if he had told someone in the back what was going on but another server came out a few seconds later and stood there talking to me until the bartender came back with what I needed.
As I walked toward the elevator the man did as well. When I turned to look the bartender had not gone back around. He stood there watching making sure I wasn’t being harassed when I walked into the elevator. Even though at one point I had to stand by the guy. I felt safe because of how the bartender kept an eye out making sure I was ok. I came down later to thank him. And he actually apologized for not doing more. I told him he was amazing!
Seriously, everything about our stay was incredible. If my family comes to future GenCon I am definitely gonna to make a reservation bee line for the...
Read moreOur family stayed four nights at this amazing hidden jewel! We have lodged in Indy at least 25 times, and by chance we ended up at an Intercontinental. I could tell from the moment Jackson unloaded our Uber that we were in for a treat! We arrived before check in and had requested to leave our bags held so we could explore the city. The hotel did one better, they checked us in! You have no idea what a blessing that was as we had left at 3am that morning to catch our flight there. The front staff was incredible through out the trip and quickly responded to our every need through text and voice calls. We were so thankful to have an ice cold room as we heard travelers at other nearby hotels were steamy! The room itself has under cabinet lighting, two electric shades that make the room like midnight, an enormous glass shower, and all the comforts of home including a streamer, robes, slippers, tissues, and a mini-bar. The beds were perfectly dreamy with extremely soft bedding and mattresses. There was a nespresso machine in the room and had all the great items to make a fabulous cup. The high ceilings and crown molding make the room appear large, and the decorations are well appointed. At the elevators, you input the floor you need outside of the car and it takes care of the rest! As we left, we met the manager, Patrick, and it is easy to see he leads his employees by example. Every employee at this hotel provided exceptional service and attended to our smallest needs. As a frequent traveler, I advise you to stop scrolling, skip the airbnb, and book Intercontinental. We...
Read moreI have to say - as someone who has traveled to every state in the country, this might very well be the best experience I have ever had. From the moment we arrived the staff was just amazing. Multiple people welcomed us and honestly, we were made to feel like royalty. It's the way hotel service used to be.
Shout out to Sian and Corey for their incredible service and effort at the bar. My wife and I are particularly regarding our drink choices. He went above and beyond to provide a creative and custom experience like no other. Staff like Sian are empowered to use their time engaging and interacting with the customers which truly makes all the difference when the guest comes first and they aren't overworked. The fact the hotel allows for that type of freedom and flexibility truly creates a wonderful environment. By the way, the food and drink quality are top notch. Some of the best I've had.
In the morning, I went down for breakfast. Laura was great. Tasty coffee and a really great environment to relax or get some work done. The staff like her are on it and don't miss a beat. My wife and I are already talking about how we can plan a trip back here just for this hotel. Highly, highly recommend. They could charge way more than $275 a room and in today's world - I don't know how they managed to pull this staff together but it's nothing sort of magic. The staff should make double for as amazing as...
