Very disappointed with what I was hoping would be a great experience. Stopped in for lunch with family. Seated quickly, although the restaurant wasn’t very busy at the time. Restaurant decor kind of confused me. I don’t know why, but I was expecting more of a traditional BBQ atmosphere, such as exposed wood, maybe southern inspired artwork, etc. The inside was very modern and looked closer to a high end restaurant.
For food we started out with two appetizers. The charcoal chili chicken wings and the skillet cornbread. Both were good. Wings were mildly spicy, like we enjoy them, and the skillet cornbread was served with molasses butter. The cornbread had decent flavor, but was pretty dry for my preference. The molasses butter it was served with did not have much flavor.
Entrees were the baby back ribs, which I got with the asparagus and mashed potatoes. The steakhouse burger with French fries, and the meatloaf with the snap peas and French fries. The people who got the French fries said they were good. I don’t personally enjoy thin French fries so I didn’t like them. The snap pea side dish was awful and swimming with oil. The mashed potatoes were your basic mashed potatoes, nothing special. The grilled asparagus was the most unseasoned asparagus I have ever eaten. I love asparagus and make it regularly. The least this place could have done is put salt on them. They were very large spears and completely unseasoned. They supposedly were grilled on the large kettle grills they have in the kitchen, but I could not taste even a hint of any smoke flavor. Very disappointed with a side dish I normally enjoy elsewhere.
The ribs were good, but basic. The bbq sauce was your typical overly sweet sauce you might find at the grocery store. Meat was tender, but I could find the same quality at any chain restaurant across the US. For 21 dollars they were fairly priced however. The person that ate the burger said it was very good, but pretty dry. I’m not a fan of blue cheese so I passed on trying it. When the food first came out they brought the wrong burger, but they were quick to replace it with the right one. I have no idea how the meatloaf is considered “award-winning”. It is the most basic meatloaf you would come to expect from places like Cracker Barrel or Applebees. The only difference is this place smothers it with BBQ sauce. It did come with 3 large slices so it was a large portion, but was just very disappointing.
Normally I’d try restaurants again, but don’t think I will give this one another shot due to the price of some of their entrees. More of a tourist trap than anything...
Read moreA service from hell. Don't recommend. First red flag was going to a restaurant named after Walmart grills. Reservation system is useless; ProTip: just walk in, you'll only wait 30 minutes to be seated at most.
Drink orders took a while. Something about the bartender being at a party. The booth we were sat in was still wet. Server was NOT familiar with the menu: she literally had to ask someone in our party about what sides came with some entrees.
Our party ordered the prime bone-in ribeye ($90). Homegirl had the audacity to give me the El Cheapo special instead (the $40 ribeye). She couldn't believe that, yes, we wanted the $90 dish. Some more excuses came up, essentially throwing her coworkers under the bus. More on this order later.
We also ordered the "king cut" prime rib, cooked medium with a side of roasted garlic mash. Prime rib was small af, Texas Roadhouse gives a larger portion. Prime rib was cooked so rare that I can hear it moo. Roasted garlic mash was missing the really important "Roasted garlic" bit. Also, for a dish that only needs reheating, it was not, in fact, heated.
Back to the ribeye.
After we POLITELY refused El Cheapo and Co. (believe the sides were wrong, too), our party had to wait another 45 minutes or so to have the ribeye re-fired. Meanwhile, our server asked if we wanted an item "on the house" as a form of comp. We felt the only remedy available is more alcohol to smooth over this disappointment of a grill. At least the Walmart grill can be returned for our full money back.
The re-fired ribeye was delivered to our table by who I assume is the manager. We couldn't tell since one of us saw him playing on his phone at the kitchen pass in full view of the customers. Anyway, we point out that the ribeye was not presented as described and shown on their menu. Manager made an attempt to "manage" expectations by offering to cut the ribeye as shown on their menu. Spoiler: it was not. But whatever. After two espresso martinis and a night of disappointment, we just wanted to endure the unendurable. Overall, entrees were a sad, sad depiction of a company trying to cling to its glory days through a feeble, undeserving run at diversifying its business. The Mac and cheese...
Read moreFifteen minutes after being seated at a half-full restaurant for a 5:30 dinner (and a 7 pm curtain), I flagged a server down to ask to get us a server. No one had come to the table, not even to give us water. Server came by and asked what we wanted. We asked for water, Brussels sprouts, and a couple of drinks. She stopped by and dropped off (did not serve) a bottle of water for the table, later returning with drinks. Another server plopped the shared appetizer on the table and left, and we flagged someone else to ask for a spoon to serve. Our server came back to take our order. She seemed in a hurry when we were ordering, not providing suggestions or clarification on items except to say that a smoked salmon item on the specials I had ordered as an entree was a dip, not an entree. One person at the table was visiting US from Europe and not familiar with “cole slaw” to go with the burger. Server no help so I described it to her and she asked server if she could have 1/2 slaw and 1/2 fries. Server said yes, but the plate came with a giant burger and a condiment-sized cup (1/4 c maybe) of slaw and no fries. We had to flag the server down again to get fries. I ordered salmon ($31), which was maybe a 4 oz fillet on a piece of cedar, not much different than the pre-marinated salmon on cedar I can buy at Kroger. The mushrooms and pearl onions on the side were cold, but nicely flavored. Server didn’t come by to check on us until after the 4 of us had finished: the server walked by and asked how it was, but didn’t even wait for a reply as she moved to another table. This was the second time in a row service has been far below expectations. We’ll be looking for a different restaurant for our next evening at the Indiana...
