Rather than say wether a good or bad experience, I will just say what worked and what didn’t. The steak with incredible, I truly wish everything that went along with it was up to par. Some meat focused restaurants also have incredible vegetables/pescatarian fare. This is not one. I started with a Caesar salad and it tasted like a to-go salad from the airport, it was the dressing that made it so bad. It tasted like a packet dressing. The menu boasted the salad’s garlic-bread croutons and with the first bite, I set those aside as it tasted like it was the stale bread from Bucca de Beppos next door with some movie theater butter and garlic thrown on top.
We then got several sides, broccoli, truffle mashed potatoes (known as the millionaire mashed potatoes), 5 cheese mac n cheese, and the Brussels sprouts.
The potatoes were rich and good, might I say rich and creamy, tummy ache rich. The broccoli, darn it, makes me so sad to say, tasted like it was frozen at some point in time, I really truly believe it and would actually love confirmation on this. I will update when I find out.
The mac n cheese was just cheesy cheesle cheese, a lot of richness with not much to balance the flavor.
Lastly the Brussels Sprouts were kind of syrupy, if that makes sense… like a sweet teriyaki sauce, the kind that makes you feel so salted that your tummy feels salt cured.
For my entree, the Chilean sea bass, a dish I have had many times. Flaky, buttery, simple, or at least it should be, but three people at the table tried my dish and we all agreed it was SO fishy; and the soy glaze again was like a salty high fructose corn syrup. It tasted old. I finally made a comment that I wouldn’t eat the fish. Pur waitress apologized, offered me something else but I passed and oddly enough the servers left the plate on the table and left it on the bill. It was like a “sorry, but not sorry “moment
I know this is a brutally honest review but at the same time, a simple solution is to source/ put as much thought into the non-steak dishes as the steaks.
The steak was amazing, I tried two versions of the filet mignon, both great but I recommend the Australian Waygu as it is organic and grass fed and lean as ever.

On to dessert! We had a birthday boy with us so we notified them and ordered a special dessert with a hot chocolate pour over. We saw another table try and get it but the drizzle didnt go so well and it didnt melt quite right but we were intrugued so we ordered it…but after we sang we noticed the waiter had left and forgot the theatrical drizzle (and all of our spoons!) so we stared at it for a good 6 min and then I got up and asked for some spoons to be brought over. The s’mores dessert and the flourless chocolate torte both were very good. Good taste, just inconsistent presentation.
Again the steak was phenomenal. I reeeeally want to see it ALL live up.
The take away. Dont order seafood or veggies here. Stick to the steak. And maybe don’t do a...
Read moreThey burned the "special" Woodford Reserve soaked, 40 day aged steak to a charcoal on the lip or spinalis when ordered Medium Rare, they actually burned the bone too. The Porterhouse, also ordered Medium Rare was actually rare and particularly raw on the tenderloin half. When we mentioned this to the server he started to argue something about the bone and thermometer, but we mentioned that we actually cook steaks at home and also whatever argument, both steaks were ordered Medium Rare and one was charcoal while the other was overly rare- and both had a bone.
The bathroom smelled strongly of urine and my shoes stuck to the floor at the urinal, the sound my shoes made when done was not a clean squeak!! There was splatter all around the floor there and you can tell that the floor and tile have not been well maintained in that area, for some time. There are 2 motion detector paper towel dispensers, one on each side of the sinks. Both were either out of paper towels, not working or both not working and out of paper towels. There was a tissue box that was completely empty next to the sink, I obviously wasn't the first person to have run into these issues there. I had to grab a piece of toilet paper to have anything other than my shirt to dry my hands off on. All of this on a Monday at about 7PM is completely unacceptable as the restaurant had just opened, was mostly empty and appeared to have more staff than customers.
We would never go back to a steak restaurant that both burns and undercooks steaks, and argues about why that is justifiable; can't make any genuine effort to keep their bathrooms clean and stocked with any paper or hand drying equipment; All while charging $400 for 2 people including tip..
We are not dine and dashers for sure, but I would run right past this place looking for steak in this area next time, there are many other Indianapolis steak restaurants within a block and a half of this location including: Weber's, Del Frisco, St Elmo, Ruth's Chris, McCormick and Schmicks and probably more! We've been to all of those either these locations or in other states, there's never been such a disconnect between what they think they are offering and the actual reality at any of these other restaurants we've been to.
They did bring out a dessert we didn't order as an "apology" but that doesn't really cover over $150 just in badly cooked steaks we still paid for. Personally I would think that the repeat business would be far more profitable than doing such a crappy job to begin with and losing our...
Read moreSuch a comfy atmosphere. Personal customer service was off the charts from getting greeted by valet staff and host staff to the impeccable service AND timing and service team, that most definitely includes management involvement and sense of actual management of a fine tuned restaurant! Kudos to the kitchen staff for mastering their craft! The bartenders were knowledgeable and rocked their bar with major skills. The staff had our table specially decorated with a hand addressed card, candle and rose petals. It was such a welcoming treat for our anniversary. We were each given a complimentary sushi sample right after we ordered a beverage. I would most certainly come to Hyde Park just for the sushi sometime. The Lobster Escargot Style was an amazing appitizer. The crostini soaked in the garlic parsley butter was just soo wonderful! I could eat endless plates of that deliciousness! We have had their steaks before which were pleasant perfection, however, both my hubby and I have trouble with eating steak so now have to go for other options (TMI? Sorry!). The Salmon Filet was moist, flaky and very flavorful with mashed potatoes ordered off the Early Nights Menu. My husband went for the Chicken Milanese with asparagus off the Early Nights Menu. He loved the tenderness and flavors. The portion was generous. We brought home extras. I loved it reheated the next day as well. At the end of the meal we were treated with a complimentary light S'mores dessert for our Anniversry. That was such a sweet and pleasant treat! We then moved to the bar for more celebratory hand crafted cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed every single second of our special night. We enjoyed it so much that my husband, being the generous and kind man he is, brought a round of drinks for the table of lovely ladies in town for a big dance competition, sitting behind us. Treating me to amazing nights like this is just one of the reasons I love this guy. Thank you from my heart to the whole Hyde Park Indianapolis Staff! You and my Greg together made a most wonderful, memorable night I'm sure I will remember for...
