I'm trying to give a rating based off of the positives vs negatives so I'll go into both. The food tastes great. We all got something different and enjoyed it. Most of the food came out quickly except for my order which took about 10-15 minutes longer. I ordered a dish off of the "sushi" menu which brings up my first negative.
The menu is confusing. Only a few of the dishes on the sushi portion are actually sushi rolls. This is misleading since they have a big sign out front with a bunch of sushi dishes featured. The description of the meal I ordered was "yellowtail with this sauce and that sauce." I expected yellowtail sushi, what I got was yellowtail collarbone. I would've known what I was getting into if I'd been familiar with the Japanese name of this dish, but I'm not. If you're going to have a description under the name, utilize it. The other people I was with had similar issues with their dishes.
One person ordered one of their seafood combos: snow crab, shrimp, potatoes, corn, with Cajun sauce. They boil it all in a bag which is traditional Louisiana style. The issue is, they're missing a step. Don't just plop a bag down on my table and expect me to reach in with the rubber glove you gave me and pull it out myself. Give me a tray, poor it out for me, make it a presentation. If I'm spending $40 on a seafood meal, I want to feel like I'm getting something awesome. The gimmick isn't worth the hassle. We had to ask two different people for a plate.
Lastly, the staff wasn't very helpful. Our waitress tried joking around with us a little but it didn't really work. We were there towards closing time and the waitress left before she even took our payment. They also turned all the music off right at closing time which kind've killed the vibe. I get it, you want to close up but that's a simple thing to shut off after your last guests leave. We asked if it was too late for us to dine in and they said no. If you let people in, let them finish their meal before you kick them out.
The bartender working there was very nice. She was the only one left after the chef and our waitress left. We had a nice conversation about all of this afterwards and she told us the (short) history of the place as well as some info about the food. She's the other positive that made me give it a second star.
Overall, the food tastes good but just about every other aspect needs to change in order for this place to be successful. Try it for yourself, know what you're getting into, and give them suggestions. They...
Read moreAfter a long day of teaching, I suggested the boiling to some other teacher friends of mine. We go out for dinner and drinks every Friday as a tradition. We met up at the boiling, took our seats and began to order. The first problem came up when the waitress argued with is about what type of sausage they had in the restaurant. We asked if she could ask the chef if it was a certain type of sausage. Instead of just going to ask, she said there was no point because he probably wouldn't know. We went back and forth until she finally decided to ask. We were correct. The chef did know what type it was. After she found out she was wrong, she began to treat us really poorly throughout the night. We asked to speak to a manager. She sent over a waitress that claimed that she was the only manager. The other waitress made excuses for her. Instead of just apologizing for her rude behavior, she tried to get us to get over the waitress's behavior. We asked an assistant manager to get us the real manager. He said that the manager wasn't there but that he could call him. After 10 minutes, the actual manager who was not missing but was there came to talk to us. He asked us if we were expecting a discount. None of us had ever brought up a discount. He just assumed that we were trying to get free food instead of believing that the waitress has disrespected us the entire night. See, while we were taking to the manager, the other waitress went around to all of the waitresses to tell them her side of story. The entire restaurant was against us. When yet another waitress came to hand us our checks, she threw the pen at us, and told us that they had called the cops on us to get us out of the restaurant. I'm assuming because we were verbally and visibly upset about how we were being treated, they called the police on 4 black women who just wanted something to be done about how they were being treated. We could see the waitress gossiping to other waitresses while we were waiting. At the moment, we knew that no one in the restaurant was going to believe us. They just thought we were 4 black women looking for hand out by causing trouble. They didn't realize that we were 4 black, educated women trying to get someone to realize we'd be treated like children and like trash for an...
Read moreCan I give ZERO stars? We went there for my sister's birthday based off of prior reviews from the website - NEVER AGAIN. We couldn't be seated until everyone was there... and we had a reservation. The food was good once we finally got it but the service was HORRIBLE from the beginning. Erin, not sure how it is spelled, Our server was too busy socializing to take care of us. We had to remind her multiple times about drinks and our food. She was always MIA. We had to flag her down after about 30-40 min to order food. Meanwhile several groups after us received their food before we did because their servers were professional and killed it. Did I mention they didnt have Grand Marinier, Sapphire Bombay and Chambord. Two of our group ordered crab legs but had to ask multiple times for the crab leg crackers - 20-25min. Before the food ever came I asked to speak to the manager about the service and bar issues lack of liquor. My other sister ordered a strawberry mango smoothie and Received a mango one, have server.Never even realized this.I also share this with bithe general manager- Antwoin. I expressed all the delays and frustrations and he said we will make sure we take care of ourselves after I asked him how he wasnt to make it right. He also said Grand Marinier was being discontinued. The horrible service comtinued, actually lack of. Then, we got our bill only to see that they charge for every little thing including gratuity for a party of 6 and they had not removed nor asjusted our bill for my sister stuff per him saying he would take care of her. I asked to speak to him again and he then said I said we would give her a dessert. I told him that is not what he said.
By this time I'm sorry and its time to go and not ruin my sister bday. $200 for 3 poeple..smdh. We wouldn't have cared about the cost if the service& experience would be matched. And apparently our server was talking about us to other receptions and employees as we were leaving.
I should have paid attention to the hints from the manager walking around and working the bar, helping the kitchen and cleaning tables off with a gun in a holster on his hip the entire time. Maybe he is the security also NEVER AGAIN..in the heart of prime location...
