It is with deep regret that I must give the ISO 1 star, and it would be lower if this was an option. My wife and I have been devoted patrons of the Hilbert Circle Theatre for several years now, attending numerous symphonies and concerts on a monthly basis. However upon receiving news that they (arbitrarily) decided to start mandating vaccines in order to attend one of their shows, we will apparently no longer be welcomed or admitted to this symphony. Not only did the staff decide to foolishly cancel all of their remaining shows for the 2020-2021 season without considering that vaccines would be rolled out in December and despite the "planned-demic" mostly having subsided, but now they defy logic and reason by saying everyone must receive a jab before being allowed entry. It seems the ISO has gone woke and gobbled up the blue pill.
My question is, if the vaccines are so effective, then why does it matter if some patrons are not vaccinated? All you vaccinated ones are supposedly protected, right? Those who refuse the vaccine willingly take that risk for themselves and supposedly shouldn't be able to cause harm to the vaccinated. This is sheer stupidity at its finest. When we reached out to the Symphony with questions about this decision, they conveniently ignored us. Well, fooey to you too. We will just attend the South Bend and other symphony orchestras. Good luck to you, ISO. You are already part of a dying breed of music, as lamentable as that is. Why further reduce your already dwindling patrons by making such a...
Read moreCame here for Beethoven's 7th symphony and it was an awesome experience. The symphony was professional and I could not detect any mistakes. The maestro Jun Märkl conducted the symphony by heart and did not use any sheets. Beautiful theater with amazing acoustics. The screen was not full stage width and could be larger, they have Star Wars a new hope in February and I would be more interested if the screen is double or triple the current size. The lounge feels very cozy but could use more seating and felt cramped. Long line for restrooms at intermission with only 4 urinals and 3 stalls so try to get there early and use it before and after the concert if possible. Water and soda for $5. Alcohol for $12. The parking structure attached has event parking for $10 + $0.75 fee on Spothero. Try to arrive early to park on lower levels, we were on level 5 and we had to wait 20 minutes before the traffic moved at all. They have monthly free chats then an ISO performance. Tickets at Indianapolissymphony.org. They also have a 3 for $99 package. This is a great place to gain some culture and...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time seeing our first concert at this venue. The inside was a wee bit smaller than I expected, and the decor is honestly not to my tastes (I'm an Art Deco, Gothic/Neo-Gothic, Arts & Crafts, or Mid-century modern type of girl when it comes to architecture), but I didn't expect it to be. It's certainly a good representation of Neoclassical design.
Most importantly, there are only a few truly bad seats in the house (and those are clearly marked during the ticket purchasing process - "behind pillar," or "obstructed view," type warnings. The forewarning was much appreciated, as we we're there to hear (and see!) Star Wars. We were high up and back, couldn't see much detail as far as the players go, but the acoustics we're wonderful.
It's all a bit out of our price range normally, but we'll pop in every now and again as...
