I ❤️ Indiana.
⭐️Indiana State Capitol Building – Indianapolis⭐️
The Indiana State Capitol is a stunning and historic landmark, perfect for both guided and self-guided tours. Despite some ongoing renovations, the building’s architecture remains a standout—elegant, elaborate, and truly grand. We were impressed by how well-preserved and accessible it is, even with scaffolding around the dome.
The interior offers an informative experience, and the grounds are peaceful for a stroll. One unexpected highlight was learning about the tunnels beneath the building that connect to parts of the city—a fun hidden gem!
We visited on a weekday and experienced no wait time, which made for a relaxed, crowd-free experience. If you’re in downtown Indianapolis, this stop is a must for history buffs, architecture lovers, or anyone who enjoys a good walk with a touch of civic pride.
Renovation note: The dome is under restoration, but it doesn’t significantly detract from the visit—in fact, it’s interesting to see history being preserved in real time!
And now, a little political humor to cap it off: Why don’t politicians play hide and seek? Because good luck hiding when everyone’s always looking for...
Read moreI'm a trucker and I gotta tell you, driving through Indiana is one of the most displeasurable tasks of my job. You people have the most deplorable and God-forsaken roads in the country. Your roads are so unbelievably terrible, they make driving in Atlanta during rush hour, or New Jersey any day of the year feel like an absolute luxury. Why make the entirety of Interstate 70 west of Indy all under construction? If I wanted to go 55 all day, I'd take loads to California. There needs to be a federal law preventing 3rd world states like Indiana from using construction zones to create speed traps. It's not the general publics fault y'all sold your highway rights to a company from Spain that neglects to fix the roads. There also needs to be another law to put Indiana's pettiness in its place: NO CONSTRUCTION ZONE SHOULD BE MORE THAN 7 MILES LONG AND NO TWO CONSTRUCTION ZONES SHOULD BE PLACED WITHIN 60 MILES OF ANY OTHER CONSTRUCTION ZONE IN EITHER DIRECTION OF THAT SAME HIGHWAY. Make it happen, Indy. You're making America look like a 3rd...
Read moreWe visited on a weekday, but I had emailed before asking about registering for a guided tour and they said they offer tours on the hour between 9 and 4 and there's no registration needed. We went there and was able to take a guided tour offered by a lovely lady. It was like a personal tour since there was only my wife and I on the tour.
The guide explained the history of the building as well as took us through all branches of the state government - executive, legislature and judicial including visiting the state treasurer's office, both chambers of the legislature as well as the Indiana Supreme Court and even the vault where they used to have the cash until 2000. She patiently answered all our questions, and the guided tour experience could not have gone any better.
There is like a five-minute walk from the parking lot. Also, there are statues and plaques to read and take pictures of, around the ground so keep that in mind if you're coming for a specific tour time. Overall, definitely do this if you have a couple of hours to...
