I stayed in Room 101 for 7 nights. I was a really late, last minute check-in, so, when I arrived, the lobby was closed. I have to commend Alexis - she opened the lobby for me to check-in, helped me grab the last room, and when my key card wouldn't work, she was there immediately and took care of it for me without any hesitation despite the time. She was super helpful with what felt like a stressful situation and her willingness to help made me feel instantly better.
My room was clean when I got in. Alexis had mentioned the lady before me cooked and they were working on getting out her food smells, but when I got in, they had done a good job bc no food smell lingered. I still spent time cleaning to my preference and turning on a candle-less wax warmer. The bedding was clean, no stains or holes, but I still covered the bed with my own mattress cover and bedding/pillows.
The appliances in the kitchen worked mostly - I used the oven a few times, the fridge got and stayed cold, and the microwave, though small, worked perfectly fine. The tv remote registered my button clicks slower and needed to be aimed directly towards the sensor, but in the grand scheme of things, it was such a minute inconvenience. The markings on all of the dials for the stove burners and oven, so I quickly realized the stove didn't turn on to high, no matter where I set the dial, but I didn't require the use of it, so it didn't bother me as much after the first time I attempted. The AC unit got SUPER cold and kept my whole room a nice 69 degrees. I opened one of my windows - there's a safety feature for it to only open about 1/3 of the way, but I was happy to get some fresh air through the room when I wanted it. The sinks also poured out hot water really quickly.
Parking was ample and my specific room was in a good location, right beside an exit, so my in and outs were easy and I wasn't bothered by anyone. It is directly across from the DART orange line, and I found out you can get unlimited rides for $6 a day - which meant, there were lots of people coming and going. There were police on-site one of the days for a disturbance between guests - they were elderly and there wasn't a scene or anything scary but some shouting. The staff seemed to move in a no-nonsense way when it came to the dispute though. I did not see either of the guests still at the hotel after the dispute.
The people that I saw in and out of the actual hotel were all friendly and kind to me and the hotel was quiet afterhours. There was only one day that a dog barked non-stop from morning until evening when her owner arrived back. My TV volume was extra high that day.
The downsides of sorts: Bc it was right by the DART, there were more homeless people about than I expected for the area. Alexis did warn me not to allow them into the hotel, to use my key and not have anyone tailgate me in or vice versa, so I was forewarned. On several of the days, I would get into my vehicle to see fingerprints on my windows and on my back truck window (SUV) like someone was peering in, but my car was never broken into and I removed all belongs so there was nothing to see.
The hot water was fast to come on in the sinks but the shower was a different story. It order to catch a warm shower, I had to time it on off hours, so VERY early in the AM or very late. It was like everyone wanted a hot shower at once and either you got it early or you didn't get it all. I did not complain about the water though bc it was hit or miss.
While the first floor was clean and quiet, the second day I was there I checked out the higher floors. 3rd and 4th had a foul odor and there were clothes and trash in the hallway and some unsavory people milling in the halls. I stayed on the first floor for the remainder of my stay.
I only saw 2 roaches while I was there. A small one alive on the wall and was killed immediately - we didn't leave out food and only saw the one - and a dead one under the TV stand. No more than that, so good indication they have some sort of pest control.
I would most...
Read moreI am going to start this post by stating that Stephanie is the young lady that works at the front desk and they're fortunate to have her. She cares about her job and as far as service, I rate her an A+. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about my hotel room. Now, the location is in an excellent location and across the street from the DART rail, which is only $6 a day for a day pass. I used the rail frequently when I was there to go to the Irving Convention Center and to go to Las Calinas Urban Center. It saved me alot of money on parking, so although I had a rental car it was nice to pick and choose what was the better option.
Now for the hotel lobby and room. I had this hotel pop up on my credit card to try out, so I decided to stay here for this trip and was very disappointed. First of all, when I walked in I was in disbelief at the dried caked skittles candy all over the lobby floor. It was there the entire time I stayed. The visual sort of set the stage for the rest of my hotel stay; when I went to my hotel room the elevator floor was dirty and then walking down the hallway to my room, the hallway carpets had not been vacuumed. Every day I was in disbelief with the elevator and the hotel hallway not being maintained and vacuumed on a regular basis. When I went into my hotel room, it was clean, but then when I went to the bathroom the tub had not been scrubbed in a very long time, you could visually see the residue and film from soap and grime on the tub as well as on the handle and spout. The customer service young lady Stephanie apologized and indicated she would get me a new room. Within 30 minutes I was in a new room. And the maid for this room actually scrubbed the tub.
One of the days I was going upstairs in the elevator and there was a family of three, the older gentleman walked in the elevator with me and the space immediately was filled with a stench I cannot explain, then his mom called him and he left the elevator and I was so happy, but his smell stayed in the elevator with me, I guess what I'm saying is these people at this hotel appear to be residents? I don't know, but I was quite surprised at the quality of the residents or tenants considering the hotel is so close to the convention center.
My advice to management, hirer more people like Stephanie for your staff. Hirer more maids that care about the quality of their work and understand how important it is for maintaining and maintenence of vacuuming hallways, elevators, scrubbing tubs... I wish the whole staff all worked as hard as that young lady Stephanie. She's efficient, sweet but needs to be surrounded with people just like her to make a...
Read moreOther than Stephany on your front desk the whole experience was horrible from start to end. Turning up to find that the pool had been concreted over, breakfast removed and no longer any gym equipment available was the first issue. Followed by visiting over 5 rooms all with various issues, I even visited the ESA next door and their rooms were worse! Lack of cleanliness, open packets of food or food waste still in cupboards, hair and other items on sinks, floors, panels hanging down from the roof, paint marks and filler not completed, gaps in floors, black spots on carpets. It was just becoming farcical until Stephany finally found me a room that was ok. She tried her best and should be praised for her patience and resilience in what was an embarrassing state of affairs. I ended up leaving the following day, I was supposed to be there for 70 nights and I could not stay another, I did not feel comfortable at all and felt like the cleanliness would become a bigger issue over time. I wouldn't recommend at all and don't feel I should have even been charged for the one night I did stay. Sadly, I won’t be trying to use you again nor would I send any of my friends/family there, improvements are required!
After all the issues noted I did not feel like I should have to pay for what was a poor experience and an unclean hotel. I also had to clean the cupboards and drawers myself in the room i did finally end up in (404) as they contained hairs, black debris items, general filth and I did not want to put my clothes in them. I also had to sweep the floor myself as it felt dirty underfoot and i could not walk around barefoot, it was making me feel ill. I just couldn't bring myself to stay any longer and the thought of 70 nights there filled me with dread. Something needs to change and improvement have to be made if this is the path you are on and content with, it was disgusting and fell very short of the way you advertise your locations on your website!
All in all, a terrible experience!
UPDATE - I did speak with a manager today who was very apologetic and understood my situation. It doesn't change what happened but she did assure me this is not normal and should not have been my experience. I have been issued a full refund which I am very grateful for and I hope you manage to put the things in place we discussed to bring this location back up to the standard it can be. As above the customer service and humanity of the local management and employees is great, I really hope your location turns it around in the next few...
