Hotel or Kennel ?||Our attempt to stay at this Hotel and avoiding the Kennel aspect of the hotel was a disaster. We ended up having to stay at a competing brand hotel - we just could not do it at the Staybridge suites Canton Ohio. ||Never in my 35 years of traveling to Canton Ohio have I had a more disappointing encounter with a hotel's front desk clerk nor response from a hotel Manger. Never. ||We have stayed in this hotel several times over the past couple years. 5-8? The hotel is newer and allow dogs. Dogs Bark and Dogs bring odor. If you love traveling with your dog - great. If you do not particualrrly like the musty smell of a dog or the smell of the cleaners to clean up after a dog or the persistant barking of a dog left in a room - then not so great great. We have noticed over time the rooms have become more kennel smelling than what you would hope for in a growingly expensive hotel. To that end , we noticed the dog barking issues and smells are stronger on the lower floors as Im guessing people with pets want access to the out side to take their dogs out. SO we ask for a higher floor when we stay at the hotel. Our first experiences were not so good on the lower floors and found the smell and noise were correted by staying on a higher floor. Our higher floor request has never been an issue and always extended to us. Until last night.||Last night the front desk clerk was not only unreceptive to our request, but absolutely' in your face rude' tremendously escalating a seemingly simply issue by informing us she would call the police if pressed anymore for a our room to be changed to a higher floor. Unreal. She gave us the choice of staying where she assigned us a room or cancelling. When I asked to talk to the manager she did her best to shut that request down too saying there was not one on duty to talk to. When I pressed to speak to a manager - she finally gave in and called someone only to came back with "you can cancel your reservation if you want but we are NOT going to change your room and ALL rooms are used for dogs so the same dog smell would be in them all." Interesting response.....beacuse I actually agree with her on that. We DID notice the upper floor room we had last month had a weird musty dirty dog smell to it that we thought was only on the lower level floors. It was a definate DOG room. ||If you have pet alergies or are just don't love the smell and sound of some elses dog as you travel - this is not the hotel for you. The WONDERFUL reviews coming through on Google reviews ought to be required to put whether they are posted by a Dog Traveler. I think that might skew the reviews more than just a bit. We have multiple stays at this hotel and have watched the hotel decline. ||Not having rooms available specifically for the dog traveler has tainted the entire hotel. If you travel here JUST know - it is becoming more of a Kennel than what you might want in a Hotel AND if you get the wrong person at the front desk we got, with a hotel manager that digs in ther heels for absolutely NO reason to back her up - you just might want to look somewhere else. ||Hotel or Kennel. Read moreWhen we travel we primarily stay at an IHG affiliated hotels when available, this was the worst experience I have encountered cleanliness wise.
Overall a good location but could use some TLC in the rooms, wanted it to be a good spot to stay because the public amenities the location offered seemed to be decent. Read on for more details of the issues we encountered.
Upon arrival at 2:30 we were told check-in was at 3pm. This was acceptable, we simply asked if we could do the paperwork at that time and pickup our keys later, maybe use the pool while we waited. We were told the room wasn't available until 3 again, after a brief pause, the front desk clerk then asked for our information to check us in. Very odd interaction to say the least. We took our bag back to our vehicle then wandered the premises checking out the pool, followed by the surrounding stores nearby.
When we got to our room (#234) it was extremely cold (set to 66) I bumped the temperature up to 69, then went about getting settled. As I started to relax I noticed an intrusive odor, thought maybe it was my own feet, but when I asked my girlfriend if she smelled it she said yes she noticed the moment we walked in it smelled like wet dog in the room. I then recognized the scent. I walked down to the front desk to ask for a new room and was told the hotel was sold out but they could spray some febreze in the room. I declined this offer, but before I could ask for a refund the attendant asked me to hold on, went into a different room then miraculously found a different room for us to have. We gathered our stuff and moved to the new room, it had a slight cigarette smell but was much more tolerable than the wet dog smell. The rest of the night was good, we had a decent night of sleep with a comfortable and clean bed.
Something I found odd and may explain - there were several signs throughout the facility regarding parties and they were strictly forbidden. Makes me wonder if this location is under new management and are trying to slowly clean...
