I did not expect any negative reviews about this place. I've heard a lot of good things. I'm visiting from LA and I have seen several of my Hollywood neighbors frequent this place when they come in town for shows, etc. So I always said next time I'm in KC I'm going there. I did that. I went last week and they were out of French toast for fathers day. I understand that. It was packed in there. No problem I will just come back. Well I did today and I cant leave KC without making this post. I walk in. Hold the door for an old white man and he puts his finger in my face like wait a mintue. No thank you are anything. I should have said something but I'm did not. Now it was raining outside so I understand the patio is closed. There was a four top right behind the host desk. When the young lady came to.me I said I am visiting from LA and for years I wanted to eat here and enjoy the ambiance. She said well the bar is open seating. I'm not saying I'm over the top refined but breakfast at a bar is not appealing at this moment. She said well there are two tables on the patio that are covered and they dont get wet. I said well I would be the only person sitting out there. Then she gave an offer which should have been the first offer. She said i have a four top right behind me, you can have that. I said great, seeing the look on her face I wanted to oblige so I said let me see what the table outside looks like. I walk literally 2 steps almost right in front of the four top and say naa its wet. I turn around she already gave the four top to a white family. Well there is no where for me to sit so I go to the end of the bar. She looks at me very happy oh I understand you want to sit there. No I dont! You gave my seat away. Now I'm a 6'4 black man. I wont make it about race but it is suspect. The only other black individual was sitting at the bar as well. I sat there for 5 mins. Meanwhile the white family that they gave my four top to had waters and already made their order. The bartender is busy I understand that making drinks for the entire restaurant. But after min 7 i got up and found Jessica Beck the asst GM to express my displeasure. She was very nice and showed great empathy after I told her why I wanted to eat there so badly. She offered to get me out some food quickly. I said no maam by the way the bar was full by then. She was so nice. I hate writing this because she was so nice. But I cant dispute the fact that what just happened ruined a moment for me. When I get back to LA I will.have to talk about this moment. I try not to see race but those Hollywood neighbors I speak of are white and they never have a problem getting a seat. This incident smells bad but I try to take the highway road in what may seem like a discriminatory situations. I ended up going to FirstWatch. The lady there even apologize for my experience at the cafe. She seating menright away eventhough it was a 30mi. Wait. This trip is...
Read moreMy boyfriend took me to my *favorite restaurant in the area. We planned on enjoying a wonderful brunch on Christmas Eve. When we arrived we were sat at a table. Our server showed up about 5 minutes later, and another associate brought us water. We deliberated over the menu and for some reason, both ordered the "fall foul". My boyfriend has a great ability to find excellent dishes. I went with his choice. We weren't sure and were looking at the breakfast and classic things like a burger. We both took the risk and when our server came over, we asked for some coffee. Our server was disappointed that I did not order my food and rolled her eyes as asked if I knew what I wanted to eat. I said fall foul, she shouted loudly "WHAT??????????" I repeated, and pointed at the menu. She continued to shout and told me to speak up. My boyfriend ordered the same, without the server raising her voice. We waited 15 minutes. Our "dishes" showed up, which consisted of a bowl slopped together. Too salty and saucy kale, bacon, orzo, old bad cuts of chicken, squash, and soggy, sketchy looking mushrooms in a soupy, goopy, nasty mess. We were stunned. How does someone eat this?? What / who / when? We were disgusted and picked at pieces until we felt sick. The dish was disgusting and my leftovers from 3 days ago would have been better than whatever that was. Our server never asked how we were doing, just asked if we were done, and we got out of there. I felt too uncomfortable to ask for anything else, but also too grossed out. We won't be back after that waste of money
2 disappointed, cheated, and hungry guests, who...
Read moreMy daughter and a friend visited this nice quaint little cafe this past Saturday. BUT BEWARE of what actually lurks inside the kitchen and inside the mind of the owner. My daughter ordered a salmon salad and within an hour was sick with food poisoning. Being from out of town she was unable to drive the three hour drive back home due to the severity of the food poisoning. She was forced to rent a hotel room for the night and send her friend home. Her husband had to pack up their two kids and drive to K/C the next day to pick her up. Before leaving K/C her husband decided to make a visit to the Classic Cup Cafe to let the manager know what had happened and to see if he would be willing to help with the extra cost of the hotel room, the gas it took for him to travel there, and the cost of the meal. Instead of the manager sympathizing with the events that took place from the meal she ate there, he accused my son in law of being a con artist, scammer, etc. He told my son in law that he had been taken to court for a similar incident and was found innocent. (Of course you would be! The evidence was consumed!) Just the statement alone makes me know there has been problems with food quality control in this restaurant. Needless to say, he did not reimburse them for the meal, let alone the hotel and gas. PLEASE think twice before eating here. You may be one of those who gets a bad meal and gets...
