Top-shelf. Refreshing. Welcoming. Professional. Genuine. Caring. Relaxing. Pleasant. Unparalleled. Superb. Adjectives to describe the excellent service of Alexander’s Guest House could continue for pages. And that is simply because our stay with them was one of and possibly the best, most relaxing, quality experiences we’ve ever had with lodging—and particularly lodging billed for members of the LGBTQ community and true straight allies. From the first phone call about making reservations to checking out and everything in-between, we felt that everyone cared greatly about our stay as well as our overall well-being. In fact every staff member went out of their way to make sure we were well cared for, that all of our questions were answered, that help was provided on everything, and that we felt truly special. Every staff member is stupendously genuine. They are people who treated us like people—people we would consider a true family. The front desk staff, and especially Tim and Nina with whom we engaged the most, blew us away with their generosity that always felt like a big, warm hug. They made reservations, arranged for our late arrival, helped us with recommendations on local activities and restaurants, and always stayed focused and positive like rays of sunshine. The team in charge of the kitchen provided an amazing buffet every morning, particularly Vagner who greeted us daily with a welcoming, calming smile. He assured that every dish was fresh, visually appealing, a delight for the palate, and of the greatest quality, and we truly appreciated his heartfelt kindness. The bartenders who included Giovanni and especially Valerie went above and beyond the call of duty, keeping us truly happy at happy hour—a real gem of a way to meet all of the other amazing guests—and remembering our regular drinks or offering us something wonderfully new to try. The housekeeping and grounds staff members among whom is the ever-diligent and pleasant Jorge kept our room and all areas of the guesthouse in impeccable order all the while guaranteeing our daily comfort in finely appointed, high-quality rooms. Alexander’s Guest House is a place we now consider a second home, an experience our friends had told us we would enjoy. They were spot on. We plan to return often and soon, something we’ll work on after finishing this review. Bravo, Alexander’s! You deserve all of the high rankings and reviews you’ve earned, and we’ll continue to recommend you to everyone we know....
Read moreWe just got back from a 6 night stay at Alexander's Guesthouse. This was our first stay here. I can sum up our visit in one word...WOW! The staff was warm, welcoming, attentive, and took then time to spend a few moments of their busy day chatting up the guests. And I mean the full staff. There isn't a diva among any of them!
It's not just the staff...the rooms are immaculately kept day after day. The pool, jacuzzi, the sun decks...all are attended to to keep everything super-clean.
The breakfasts were always on point. We didn't have the same hot item once. And the cold items were always of the highest quality...fresh fruits, breads, rotating danishes, even freshly baked cookies and such!
Happy hour was always a relaxing time of day to gather our strength for an evening of activities. Though I'm a wine drinker, I could tell the drink menu was very popular.
But you don't stay at a guesthouse just for this. For our stay, the other guests were just as interested in meeting the other guests (for the most part). We made quite a few life-long friends this stay. The final night included an impromptu round-robin of ALL the guests at the house sharing info about themselves...laughing, sharing, and caring...bonding at its best. ...An evening that will not be forgotten at Alexander's Guesthouse.
My only ding to make this not a 5-star review across the board is just the location. On one hand, you're about 3/4 mile walk from Duval...which can become a long walk after a few days. That makes the guesthouse a very quiet and tranquil place to stay. They have bikes for rent to help make the trip a short one. On the other hand, we found a few VERY good restaurants only a few blocks away, and the marina is also very close.
If you're looking for a tranquil place to spend your down time while visiting Key West, Alexander's Guesthouse is the best in our experience. You can keep to your own space and just let the stress fall away. But if you make an effort to connect to your fellow guests, you can have an...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at Alexander's based on a good friend's recommendation since he frequently visits Key West. What a wonderful place to stay. Tim was absolutely wonderful in checking us in, transferring our luggage to our room and going over all of the property's amenities. We asked about things to do and he was able to book a schooner and kayaking trip for us during our 4 day stay. He also made several dining recommendations but we had places already reserved for dinners out. Our room was super clean with mints on the pillow and a Roku TV available for streaming from any of the current services. I'm a breakfast person and was delighted to see their offerings were a step above any continental breakfast from a chain hotel. I'm a coffee lover so I used their Breville expresso machine daily. There was always a hot option like eggs or quiche along with cereal, fruit, oatmeal and other delicious pastries, breads, juices and condiments. There is no fitness center but I just streamed workout videos from my phone and exercised near the pool during the cool early mornings. I should also mention there is a happy hour every afternoon with free drinks and conversation among the other guests. There is no need to have a car since all the places worth seeing are within a short walk or bike ride. Alexander's has bike rentals available at their location so riding to any destination was a breeze. We even biked to a local laundromat about 0.5 miles away so we could wash all of our clothes prior to heading home. My wife and I had a late afternoon flight so the staff held our luggage which allowed us to see more sights durng the day. To top it off, the staff offered up towels and bath products so each of us could shower and freshen up using their full bath near the pool prior to heading out for the airport. Speaking of the airport, an Uber or taxi ride is only a 10 minute drive and about $20 each way. If I ever get back to Kwy West, I plan to return...
