My husband and I had a really nice stay at Authors Guesthouse a few weeks ago. ||The ‘Authors’ room was pretty, and with a comfortable queen bed and good linens, 2 wicker chairs & a table between them, a small refrigerator, bookshelves (with a place to store our med-size suitcase underneath), suitcase rack, and 2 closets. Wall-reading-lamps on either side of the bed, with electrical outlets for recharging your phone & space for books. You can hear some traffic noise, but it was not enough to bother either of us.||The breakfast was perfect for us: Self-serve, in the reception room. Good Cuban coffee, good selection of teas, fruit, bagels (butter, cream cheese, jelly), breakfast pastries, granola bars, individual cereals, yogurts, and fruit juices. Picnic tables and chairs/tables to enjoy breakfast outside. ||There is a lounge set up outside, and a small pool. And very pleasant staff!||This guesthouse is in a wonderful location. It is not right in the middle of things, but all are within an easy, pleasant, walk: Maybe 20-minute walk to Duval Street & the Hemingway Museum, 10-minute walk to Key West Express, 13-minutes to El Siboney Cuban restaurant (very good), 5-minutes to Sandy’s Café (very good Cuban sandwiches and so on; takeaway / a few stools & counter), 5-minutes to the Key West Cemetery (find the pet Key West deer). ||The streets around Authors Guesthouse are lined with sweet, well-tended, Key West cottages and beautiful Victorian houses. Very nice walks all around. Reminded us of...
Read moreI very rarely give a bad review or put a company on blast BUT if you are planning a trip to Key West, save yourself time, energy, and a huge amount of grief and DO NOT book with AUTHORS GREATHOUSE KEY WEST! local lady booked this place for me weeks ago. We were so excited to visit. At booking, they charged my card for the first nights stay.
My flights were canceled due to the catastrophic event, Hurricane Ian. The State of Florida was in a state of emergency.
My agent so she reached out to them and asked them to rebook me for different dates or refund me and they refused. She’s emailed multiple times to no avail. After refusing to work with her on my behalf, she emailed multiple times to document that the trip was canceled.
I, too have called and left voice mails and also emailed multiple times. They didn’t return any calls or reply to my emails.
Today, even though they knew it was canceled, they billed me for the entire stay causing further frustration. I have disputed with my credit card company.
The sad part is, I originally just wanted to reschedule and she has begged them to do the right thing. They are greedy people and refused. I’ve been informed that the majority of the other places in the area have either refunded or rebooked people and those businesses did the right thing! This company has refused every single request.
110% greed and 0% customer service.
BEWARE IF YOU...
Read moreI wanted to experience a sweet B&B with my fiance in Key West for a couple of days that was not only affordable but also clean (despite of Covid19 pandemic) and cute. We searched and saw so many different locations but something about the Hellman room and the spa right outside the doors that attracted us to Authors Guest House. The room was clean, spacious enough for two. The bed was very comfortable and cozy. The bathroom was a bit small but it worked. The only mirror was the one above the sink and I found myself looking for a mirror in the bedroom to check my makeup or my outfit on my way out a few times. The only negative in the room but not enough to take away a star is that the dresser drawers had a musty smell to them. So I bought two $1 air fresheners and issue solved. The patio and spa outside the room was kept clean. We only saw one other couple using the spa the first night but other than that it was like our own private hot tub which was a bonus! The morning breakfast available was nothing grand but everything was packaged individually except the fruits. Again, they were very good about keeping everything clean in all aspects. There's only two parking spaces for the property but free street parking is available. We never had an issue finding parking. The front desk staff was so nice and professional. Overall we...
