Key West Cakes — Restaurant in Key West

This shop is overwhelmed with business. The customer service was poor. I called early on a Saturday and spoke to someone a week before a birthday cake was needed. The guy on the phone told me to email and send pictures with what I wanted. By late morning on Tuesday they hadn't gotten back to me, so I called. I spoke to the man who I assume was the owner. He had not even seen my email because he said they were so busy. While I was on the phone with him he found my email and promptly said he couldn't do it because I had wanted two tiers. I asked what he could do. He was extremely rude. He wasn't even willing to discuss other options. I had looked for other bakeries on Google. I was in town so I searched on Google maps for other ones I had read good reviews on. I got in my golf cart and drove to the next one on the list. It had gone out of business and turned into a bookstore. I then drove clear across town... about 15 minutes in a golf cart, to the 3rd one listed. The owner wasn't there but the employee told me they were booked until the middle of May. It was the middle of February. I told him I just wanted a simple cake. No luck. Back to square one. My friend called KW cakes and ordered a round Key lime cake with white icing, no decorations, only a colored border. On Saturday afternoon we went to pick up the cake. They were swamped with orders and got ours confused with several others. Ours wasn't quite finished so we left and came back an hour later. 2022--Steven continues to impress. I just ordered a German Chocolate type of cake and everyone loved it. I would not order your special occasion cakes from anyone but Key West Cakes! Steven continues to make our special occasions memorable with his beautiful and delicious cakes! Update 2021: Still ordering cakes from this amazing bakery. This trip I ordered a delicious chocolate cake with peanut mousse--so good. Since my original review I have ordered more cakes and bought cupcakes/cookies etc. when visiting. I am planning on ordering another cake for another trip/event I have soon. This is the go to place for homemade, delicious and beautifully decorated cakes. A++ bakery. If you want the best, this it.

Beautiful and delicious cakes! Ordered a b-day cake for a friend while we were on vacation here in the Keys and the owner was professional and communicated with me right away via e-mail back and forth until I got exactly what I wanted. What a beautiful masterpiece--our cake was gorgeous and no detail was left undone. There were beautiful candy starfish; glitter writing and other gorgeous decorations. Took our call on May 20th and responded through email that they would make a single-tier wedding cake for us to be picked up on July 1st, the day of our ceremony in Key West. I hadn't heard back for literally two weeks, so I called just now and I was told that "the 6 inch cake was too much for them to handle right now" even though they told me they could make this two weeks ago, and that "I should probably look for some one else to make my cake". I would love to have two weeks of my time back so I can find some one else... absolutely terrible customer service. If you are looking for some one reliable that won't fall through, good luck and try elsewhere. Read the reviews, because there's a lot (not just on Google) that are EXACTLY like this... I wish I would have seen them all sooner, and they've done it to past customers as well... completely tactless and don't care about their reputation, just what they're doing at the present moment. I'm disgusted that they do this to people so often.
