So many things I despised about this place, I really was hopeful that my stay would be great by the number of positive reviews and after staying here and was extremely disappointed. I really don’t understand why this place has such good reviews. First thing I will say is that it is a good location and the outside appears to be immaculate inside and balconies in the rooms had lush landscape, but this is certainly the worst place (out of the 9 places) that I have ever stayed at Key West for the following reasons: First and foremost the major downside is the owner of this property. She has zero manners or professionalism, she is rude, should not be in the hospitality business and attributes to a negative vibe this place has. I simply reviewed how I was not happy about the fact they don’t offer coffee all day nor in the room. Her solution is going across the street (or as she says “50 steps”) to Starbucks which closes at 6pm by the way. As I checked out, she had the nerve in a hostile manner to approach me to say how “this is a 1890s Victorian building and if you don’t like it you should leave and not come back” I was stunned. No saying thank you for staying 2 nights or anything, she just told me to leave the keys to the room and leave like I was dirt. I had already had a terrible experience at this place and that was the tip of the iceberg for this stay. I could not believe how terribly she treated me and I really do not think this is the first or last time she would talk to a guest like this. She needs to learn to take constructive criticism from her guests or should get out of the business. Unfortunately, the despicable mannerism of the owner and lack of coffee was not the only flaw of this place: The beds were uncomfortable. It seems like they are 20 year old mattresses with tons of padding on top. It looked comfortable but I did not sleep well my entire stay. The breakfast was terrible. Stale bagels, and limited selection and a bacteria-infested platter. The whole coffee situation is ridiculous. I guess it could’ve just been my room (18) without a coffee maker, but they should have at least tried to accommodate for their guests with a coffee maker in the common area. I asked the first day and they were very quick to dismiss it and direct me to Starbucks. I had to go out and buy one. Dare I say that without a bunch of excuses pertaining to the age of the building; there is a power outlet, there can be a coffee maker, it’s not that hard to any other place but this one. But again, if you complain about it, you’ll get a nasty lecture form the very unpleasant-brazen owner. They have the pool open 24 hours but they don’t have pool clean pool towels available. Try complaining about that and you’ll get an attitude or some excuse about how it’s in keeping with being eco friendly, can’t have someone there to refill the towels or some nonsense. Same goes with your room and towels. They are thin small towels. The WiFi does not work. You can try connecting to it and it doesn’t connect. I’ve tried on 3 different devices-I’m sure that comes with an excuse as well. The plumbing is terrible! You can’t even flush urine without the toilet backing up. They do put a sign there reminding about the delicate plumbing, but it’s unacceptable. Again, up to the owner who chooses not to make those upgrades and use the 1890s Victorian building as her scapegoat. The shower products were in a disgusting dispenser mixed with old and new lumpy product. Overall I would say that there are dozens of other better places to stay for the same or less price in the same vicinity. This place is an illusion of luxury and comfort and is not worth the price. Especially for being horribly treated by the brazen/pompous owner which has zero tolerance for feedback. This was a horrible stay, even though it has great reviews, I highly doubt I’m the only one to have had a problem with this place, perhaps no one else says anything because they fear retaliation from the owner for writing a bad review. Overrated, not...
Read moreThis hotel located in the heart of Key West and just a few minutes away from the famous Duval Street is an ideal spot for a romantic getaway. Marrero's Guest Mansion, a historic Victorian home, has been beautifully restored and boasts a perfect blend of modern and retro elements. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the vibrant and tropical colors in the entryway and throughout the interior.
The innkeepers, Jayme and Laura, were extremely welcoming and friendly. They provided us with all the necessary check-in information, including the keys, door code, and breakfast details. While my husband searched for parking, Jayme kindly escorted me to our room.
Luckily, Jayme found us an affordable parking spot not too far from the hotel. This was especially helpful as we soon discovered that parking could be both challenging and expensive in the area.
One aspect of the hotel that really stood out to me was its relaxed and hospitable nature. Breakfast and non-alcoholic drinks were included, and alcoholic beverages were available for purchase. The "honor system" of recording and submitting your own tab was a nice touch that made us feel at home.
Our suite was situated on the first floor and offered a stunning view of the picturesque courtyard and pool area. The outdoor decor was lush and tropical, creating a charming oasis.
Jayme, the innkeeper, was also a great resource for recommendations on local restaurants and transportation. She helped us find a moped rental so we could explore some of the nearby sights, such as the Key West Harbor and Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park Beach, both of which were amazing!
Overall, our stay at Marrero's Guest Mansion was everything we hoped for - fun, entertaining, relaxing, and a perfect opportunity to unwind. We would definitely return and recommend it to our loved ones.
We extend our gratitude to the entire team at Marrero's Guest Mansion for making our stay...
Read moreFrom the start, the staff at Marrero's was more than accommodating to all our needs. Communication was excellent from start to finish, complete with an app that gave us everything we needed to know during our stay. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a huge smile, making us feel right at home. Even before arrival, all text communications were warm and friendly, leaving you no doubt that there was a caring person on the other end, not just an automated bot. The mansion itself was wonderful. The historic dwelling has been updated to reflect the Key West feel, while still retaining the beautiful history of the building. The pool was wonderful, hidden behind tall walls that let the hustle-bustle of the Key West streets fade away for however long you wanted. The 21 and over aspect of the mansion was fantastic. No screaming kids to ruin your quiet solitude. The continental breakfast was simple, but more than adequate, supplying guests with options ranging from cereal and milk to fresh fruit, pastries and croissants. The location was perfect. We were no more than 10-15 minute walk from any site we chose to visit (highly recommend leaving the rental car at the airport. Cab ride was only $18). When it was time for us to leave, we were able to store our luggage at the mansion until we had to leave for our flight, which was 4 hours after the check-out time (airline changed the flight times on us). Again, the staff was more than happy to accommodate us under the circumstances. Overall our stay at Marrero's Guest Mansion was nothing short of excellent. I would highly recommend it to any couples without children. The staff is top notch and you will receive 5 star treatment from the moment you make the...
