Weekend from hell!!! This was hands down the worst hotel experience of my life. It started out fine as I was greeted professionally and my son and I put our things in our room and headed off for a tournament that we were playing in, in nearby Baraboo. When we came back, we headed to the pool and hot tub which was what seemed like a nice nightcap. That's when things really took a turn. When we returned to the room, I went to plug in my phone charger and noticed a bug crawling on my pillow. I took a look at it and asked my son to google what bed bugs and sure enough there was no mistaking this for a full grown bed bug. I called the staff into the room and they confirmed that it was bed bugs and the manager assured me that this was the first they had heard of it. At first, she seemed accommodating and asked me if I would like a new room. By this time, it was probably 11pm at night and my son and I had to return to tournament the next morning at 9am so I asked if there was a room they could provide on different part of the hotel. They seemingly put us in a room which was pretty much directly under the one that we had been in. By the time we were leaving the room, a total of three bedbugs were literally crawling in clear sight on the bed...horrifying. The next morning (after a terrible of night's sleep with the dread of bedbugs on my mind), we were getting ready to leave for a tournament when I noticed another bedbug in the new room. It was at this time that I had to pack up all of our belongings in a panic because I had to still be at tournament at 9am. By this time, the staff did not seem to be very friendly or understanding. In fact, my final conversation with the manager the night before, in which I tried telling her that I saw a total of 3 bedbugs in the first room....she seemed to become very dismissive towards me. Anyhow, we leave the hotel in a hurry and waited for a call from the manager. I ended up calling back when I had a free moment and again did not feel like the (same) manager was very compassionate for what we were going through...not to mention we were in the Dells during one of their busiest times of the year (during the car show) and were now faced with trying to find a new room...all while trying to focus our full energy and attention on the tournament that we were playing in. Fast forward...now it is 3 weeks later and still haven't received the refund from Expedia or the hotel for the resort fees. I was told to call Expedia myself and get that resolved, which I did. However, Expedia wasn't able to help to refund the resort fees that hotel charged me directly. I called the hotel that same day and they said that I would have to call again the next day to speak with manager. I gave them another call and the manager I spoke with said that the refund had been completed, but it 100% had not been completed or shown on my end. I asked if there was someone that could help me to resolve the issue with the hotel and he said there was not and directed me to Wyndham customer service. I asked for their number and he said he didn't have it, but reluctantly looked it up...again seemed to act like I was an inconvenience and not very helpful in resolving the matter. I called Wyndham customer service and they said that this is typically not a matter that they assist with as the hotel is owned by an individual (as this is a franchise) and that the hotel should be able to help me with the refund. To say I am disappointed with how I was treated is a complete...
Read moreThe Wingate by Wyndham Wisconsin Dells is a quality stay, but watch your receipts closely.
My wife, kids, and I stayed at the Wingate over Labor Day weekend 2023 and we were delighted by the spacious rooms, cleanliness, included breakfast, and location.
The staff are very friendly, accommodating, and the amenities at this space are excellent. There is an indoor pool, an indoor water area for small children, and a hot tub.
We were utterly disappointed in the booking and billing process, though the hotel rectified the situation in a very courteous, prompt, and efficient manner.
We booked this hotel utilizing credit points acquired through our business ventures. As a perk of this situation, the Wingate is a recognized partner. When we booked this location, our points paid - through a 3rd party booking site recognized by our credit provider - for the majority of our stay minus a small balance.
At check in, the desk attendant stated that we had a balance due significantly above the balance our card provider had listed. For clarity, we booked the room well before our arrival with a receipt of what exactly would be owed at check-in.
We explained this to the desk attendant, with receipts and information, and the clerk took our card, assured us all was well and we checked in and went about our stay. Later that evening, we received a fraud alert from our card provider stating the hotel was attempting to charge us for the full cost of the stay - which if you're still following along - we had already paid previously.
We declined the charge and the card was never charged. At this time, we attempted to rectify the situation with the front desk and --- again --- believed it was solved.
Hours later, we received another fraud alert from our card company stating another amount (higher than the first) has been charged by the hotel.
We again declined the charge and went to sleep. When we woke the following morning, we were able to speak with the hotel manager who finally, and accurately, corrected the situation.
If we were passive credit card users and did not have fraud protection on our cards, it is possible this trip could have cost us over $2000 for a 3 night stay.
I say that to say this: this is a lovely space with accommodating staff and management, but make absolutely sure when booking that you save receipts, screen shots, confirmation emails and all information, particularly if you do not book direct.
This could have been a mistake by staff members, or even an oversight, and we acknowledge that. We appreciate even more the manager who was able to accurately...

My husband, daughter, and I had planned to stay a couple of days. I saw on the expedia website that this was a dog friendly hotel. I called to make sure there was a pet room available the day of travel, and I was told this was not a pet friendly hotel. After a lot of confusion, it turns out this IS a pet friendly hotel. Additionally, I recently found I was charged two pet fees by the lobby (apparently expedia is 25/stay and other sites charge 50/night). I am still working on clearing this up, as my dog only stayed one night anyway. I will say that the room was very clean and the hotel has a nice ambience. The first night I noticed the drain in the tub was not operating properly. I pulled it out and showered my toddler during the entire stay instead. For breakfast, it looks like there are COVID restrictions in taking any food out of the breakfast room. This seems a bit backwards as the breakfast area is a small room in the basement with no ventilation and droves of people (if you wake up late). There are two pool areas, one outdoors and one indoors. Both have slides, and the indoor pool has a better area if your kids don't swim. There is a hot tub (one morning this was lukewarm), a regular pool with a splashpad indoors, and a big kid slide/pool area outdoors. If you are more conscientious about the delta variant with your kids, the outdoor pool seems to be the best option for fun. The hours for the swim areas are different than what's printed, so this is a bit confusing, but the indoor pool was open after 11 to adults only and the outdoor pool closed at 9 or 10 to everyone. During check-in, I was told to let the staff know if we would need the room cleaned during our stay. It turned out that my husband decided to leave early with our dog, and so I invited a friend to take his place. I called the front desk to clean the room that morning and was told that they needed 24 hour notice. I was not aware of the time limit. In leui of them cleaning I asked for clean sheets and towels. We also called for a rollaway for my friend's kid, but was told that these are not available (they are advertised on the expedia website, so beware). That night, I decided to make coffee, but the coffee maker in the room is broken. It would have been nice to get the coffee next to the front desk, but I could not leave my toddler in the room alone... Overall, I wouldn't mind staying again, it would just be nice for policies to be outlined clearly and correctly. Also, the breakfast area is a bit scary if you...
