Ponderosa — Restaurant in Lake Delton

We decided to try ponderosa after they did an extensive remodel. We have not eaten there for at least ten years, and we were pleasantly surprised. Although the price was more than we would normally spend for a meal, we decided to make it a special occasion. Our initial contact was very impressive, as the young man who greeted us and took our order was very helpful and courteous as he seated us at a very comfortable table. Our waitperson, Mary, was efficient and friendly, and very attentive to our needs. We were very pleased with the variety of salads, hot dishes, and desserts available. The quality and freshness was impressive, even though we visited in mid-afternoon. We decided to order steak with the buffet, but realized that there would have been plenty to choose from without the steak. The steak and potato were served sooner than expected, and we had to finish our salad after eating the steak. One of the steaks we ordered, the top sirloin, was very tasty and tender, while the other, a ribeye, was chewy and tough. The server came by and asked how the meat was, and we told her. She immediately had the chef prepare another steak, a sirloin, which was perfectly done. They also refunded the difference in price. This is a much longer review than I intended, but we were very surprised and pleased with this Ponderosa. It exceeded our expectations, and we intend to dine here again. I was travelling through Wisconsin Dells and happened upon this iconic tan building with green trim and there it was, Ponderosa! I couldn't believe my eyes. The sun was shining on just this building as it was overcast this day; I was excited as I thought they all went out of business. As I entered the doors it was as if I hopped in a Delorean, hit 88 mph, and powered to not even what todays EVs can handle, 1.21 giggawatts and headed back in time to 1989. It was just like I remembered it as a kid; nostalgia at its finest. As a Pondo aficionado, I ordered the Sirloin Tips. They were good and cooked as I ordered them. I can tell you since I worked at a Ponderosa for 4 years, the recipe of the mushrooms and onions has not changed. I was not disappointed, exactly what I was expecting. The buffet items were overall good, but one of my favorites are the rolls. Get them right out of the oven for the best experience! Ponderosa has a great selection for all to choose from, so I think if you bring a family, everyone will find something that will take care of those hunger pains. As I remembered Ponderosa, one of the items that was popular for me as a kid, was the dessert bar with the ice cream machine. My family and I are on vacation and we stayed nearby. We haven't seen or been to a Ponderosa in at least 15yrs. and my hubby and I were extremely ecstatic to see one. We checked the reviews for it and saw that we should be a little skeptical about going, because of some naysayers, but our childhood memories lead us to try it out, if it was horrible we would just ask for a refund. We called ahead to check the price and we arrived around 6:25 p.m. There was no line to be seated, it was reasonably priced, the staff was very attentive to all the customers and they were very pleasant. The food was very plentiful and my steak was delicious!!! What I like the most is that usually when your in a restaurant near closing and they have a buffet or something open for everyone it seems as if the pickings are slim or a lot of things aren't going to get replenished. This was definitely NOT the case here. Food was coming out fresh left and right and my family and I were really able to enjoy ourselves. I even loved the birthday song the crew sung to the birthday customers. The best bonus was the cleanliness, a guy dropped a piece of chicken on the floor and I almost stepped on it, before I was finished making my taco I looked down and a worker had come to pick it up and wiped the floor clean (I never even noticed him at my feet) I was very impressed!!!
