If you are looking for a hostel above a casino and plan to be out partying until 3am every morning, then this is the place for you.
If you are looking for a more normal 4 star hotel experience then be aware.
Our 'luxe' room looked directly out over the Fremont St Experience, meaning we had no choice but to 'experience' it until the early hours of each morning. The room literally shakes from a combination of the music from Fremont and the competing Carousel bar that the hotel decided should add to the festival of noise. We booked as a family of 4 with 2 kids, so after the first night being unable to sleep, we asked to swap rooms. No dice. All full apparently. It would have been nice if the hotel had checked our reservation, seen the kids and guessed that we may want to be in bed before 3am and allocated the room accordingly.
The 'luxe' room comes with a very cheap coffee machine that uses the coffee equivalent of a tea bag. Not 'luxe' but its ok if you need a quick drink before venturing out of the room. Unfortunately this is only useful for the 1st night, as nobody in the hotel comes to make up the room.
Reading other reviews it seems that you have to 'request' that your room is serviced. I've not seen this anywhere else that calls itself a 4 star hotel and charges resort fees, it just strikes me as laziness and lack of service. 4 people in a room with 2 towels, tiny toiletry portions and enough coffee for the 1st night are clearly going to want some kind of service. A nightly making of the beds and replacing towels is minimal service in most hotels, but the plaza can't seem to be bothered.
Outside of the disappointing room situation, the lifts (elevators) were very erratic. Many hotel guests were hanging around for a long time waiting for them to arrive. At least it gave us something to talk about.
The pickleball courts looked good, but when we tried nobody was around to hire us the equipment, so we couldn't use them. It would be nice if equipment rental could be included in the resort fee, as you don't seem to get much else for your money. Nobody replied to our email to register for the pickleball tuition. The pool area looked small, tired and a bit dirty. I imagine it could be fairly chaotic in the warmer months.
The food options were hit and miss. The food court itself looked tired. McDonalds had recently moved out and the space was filled with more casino slot machines, the coffee place seemed to open at erratic hours (rarely when i needed a coffee) so I ended up going elsewhere. The donut place had a fantastic selection, but was always busy. Mexican looked nice, as did hash house, but the overall food ambience was a bit grim so we ate elsewhere.
Oscars is within the complex, but has it's own area set aside from the rest of the hotel. It's the only part of the hotel which feels 4 star, but due to the overall ambience of the hotel it also feels expensive for what it is. The food and service there was good though.
We paid for the NYE package, which was about $200 over the direct room rate. For this $200 you get $50 of food credit and a spot on the pool deck for the fireworks. You can judge for yourself on the relative value of this. The NYE package should also have included a late checkout, but on arrival we were told that this was subject to availability and would not be confirmed until the day. So effectively you'd have to wake up early, go to reception on the day of checkout, confirm if you could keep your room late, then go back to sleep again. Not very likely. Coincidentally, they were selling an additional night for $49 to avoid that hassle. Very much bait and switch tactics in play here.
In the event, we asked for the extra night, got charged $309 for it when we got home and had to chase refunds. To their credit plaza issued a full refund and did not charge for the extra night in the end.
Overall we were pretty disappointed with the Plaza considering what we paid. The public areas in the other local hotels also seemed nicer. Research before...
Read moreTHE ROOM (18th floor): Gross and not functional... Had other people's hair and debris all over the bathroom floor and area by the sink; you could scrape years of packed filth from the corners. The carpet in the room was dirty and stained and there was a clear gap between it and the wall like it was missing base boards; sequins, garbage, and debris took shelter there. I didn't dare leave anything on the floor, including my luggage. The A/C unit didn't blow cold air, my husband had to open the cover and sift through filth to try and fix it. Surfaces were dusty, especially the ledge by the A/C unit (probably because the filter hasn't been changed or washed in years- we saw its condition). We had a nice view overlooking the pool, but the windows were so dirty (both inside and out) you almost couldn't see out of them. We heard the music bumping from the pool, or wherever it was coming from, all day (which, I'm a fan of a good beat, but it got kind of old). The bathroom fan didn't work, so if you showered or had to go #2, the steam or stink just lingered. The shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispenser was a pain in the butt; spent more time pumping to get a decent sized amount than I did washing my hair. The drawers had debris in them, and I found someone's mascara on the floor. Found a few sequins on the floor and in our bed, so who knows if the room was even cleaned before our arrival. The towels were scratchy/crunchy and clearly old and well used. Lighting was horrible, had to open drapes just to see around the room clearly. Minor, but there was only one mirror (above bathroom sink), which made it hard for my husband and I to get ready at the same time because we had to fight for space. The only upside to the room was the blow dryer working well, and the bed being surprisingly comfortable. We saw other rooms our friends were staying in on various floors, and there was a pretty big difference between them all; no consistency in quality.
FACILITY: Also gross... the hallways and elevators being the worst. The carpet in the hallways looked like it had never been shampooed, especially in front of our door. I had to tell my husband not to lean on the wall in the garage elevators because there were smears of blood on the walls.
AMMENITIES: The pool setup was decent, with friendly attentive staff, decent bathrooms, good music, and refreshing drinks. However, there was wet confetti all around the pool edge that looked like boogers, which kept sticking to us anytime we'd stand or sit pool side. Also firework debris, which I understand... but the pool was so cold you couldn't even get in all the way without losing your breath. Felt like an ice bath despite the weather that weekend being in the 90's with full sun.
FOOD: Only a few choices, but they were all good. The pizza place was fantastic (even though they took 30 minutes to heat up 2 slices of pizza), the Mexican grill had good food as well, and Hash House a Go Go was also on point. Didn't try subway or the Asian place.
GAMBLING: Decent variety, slots were ok (a bit dirty) even though we lost a ton of money. We played 3 card poker at the tables and the dealer (although we could barely understand her accent) was very helpful and accommodating. Drinks were standard.
LOCATION: Was honestly fantastic being that close to Fremont Street. Made it easy to pop out for a bit and have fun and be able to return to our room easily. No concierge service.
OVERALL THOUGHTS I don't think we'll be staying there again, not for $200/night. Cheap for Vegas, I know, but the filth and lack of maintenance shadowed the "good deal." Would rather give Circa or somewhere...
Read moreThere were staff like at the rewards desk , and their management that were awesome ,!! So we're all the waitresses and security, the Hash House, the Coffee ,,/ ice cream workers, and the gift shop, and the maids. They were all Great The Bellaman Roosevelt was very. Nice. . I would give 5 stars to all of them But What got it lowered to 3 stars was it was up and down at the front desk of friendliness borderline rudeness borderline disrespect There's only two out of three of the front desk people that were very friendly and helpful I don't know their names it's two females one was a manager I believe. But then there were ones that were kind of rude and cocky lacked interest of being helpful or understanding. Then the day I left I stayed there for 4 days , the worst employee there was the night bellman who was utterly rude to me when he brought my bags out side for me which I tried to say I could do myself but they said it was rules that they couldn't let me carry their carrier outside. So I had already tipped $10 to Roosevelt the day bellman or dorman, my bags were left at the front desk area where they let you store your bags to be ready to leave. When I went to leave again I tried to say I could push push my own bags out on their carrier thing what I was told that it wasn't allowed, so when he carried my bags out towards the street for me so I could watch for my ride I had explained to him that I didn't know if they shared tips or not but thatI I had already tipped the first bellman $10 but now I had no more .honey from losing at all from playing on the slot machines. I was broke lost all my money. He proceeded to give me a disgust look walking away waving his hand at me saying next time I won't carry your bags out for you because I was broke. . I thought that was the rudest person I'd ever met in my life . tell me I can't carry my own stuff out with the carrier but yet turns around has an attitude because I can't tip him because I lost all my money in the casino. I didn't even want him carrying my stuff out. He made me feel bad because I couldn't tip him. If given the choice I would have carried my own bags for myself. I already felt bad and he just was so rude about it. So I went in after my girlfriend showed up I put my bags in the car and she pulled on the side and I went in and talked to the front desk manager. the guy at the front desk was like no emotion like yeah I'll talk to him llike he really wasn't going to do anything or say anything really like there was no reprimand going to happen. so basically I don't think he had a problem with their employees being rude to people. it used to be that you treated customers kindness and politeness no matter what or you would definitely be reprimanded.. Today they act like they don't care if their employees treat people rudely or not I guess no big deal. So mostly because of that bellman or doorman I don't know what you call him and then a couple people at the front desk and the front desk managers lack of caring about his employee acting so rude that brought it down to 3 instead of 5 stars from me. Plus the lack of caring from the male front...
