This is the first and the last time i will stay at this casino. We stayed for the entire week. The ROOMS are a GOOD JOKE! They call it California, have New York, small sardeen squish in a can room. the bathroom is seperated by an office cubile and you will wake up everybody if your trying to be quiet. See pics. If you are Hawaiian and love to eat try squeezing in the bathroom and supposedly it's catered to Hawiians. The girl at the front desk was incompetent and i asksd for a break down of what i'm paying for and she came up with different amount on the screen from who knows where? She couldn't change anything back to original price. So i paid for what she charged me thinking that was total cost besides the security deposit- low and behold last day at crack of sunrise i get the room phone loud ringing- um your credit card got declined. No ish i lock it so i don't get any un authorized charges. Which wasn't explain i owed more. If uh u spent all your money gambling on their tight slot that would have been a surprise! But i did pay it. Just make sure you save your dollars for surprises! Uh not sure what's so Hawiian about it besides the carpet and the 1 dish they decided to throw in to minoritize 'Hawaiian' OMG OXTAIL SOUP! that's it people one 'Hawiian dish'. Unless you consider teriyaki 'Hawaiian' ? WE HAD A HARD TIME FINDING FOOD BECAUSE MOST THINGS WERE CLOSED UNTIL THURS. THE 2 RESTURAUNTS BETWEEN TWO CASINOS WERE OVER PACKED. The gift shop closes early about 7pm and opens at 10 a.m. lame. The only good thing they had here was the ice cream. 1 scoop worth the money. Giant scoop. Delicious! Upstairs. Cant even get a Comp bottled water at the bar after spending $200 on gambling. They WILL ARGUE ABOUT IT Sports bar over packed with people LOUD. Let me tell u its SMALL. Slots ARE EXTREMELY TIGHT! Valet- when we first checked in valet was easy and the employess are super friendly. On Thurs. The cars are so packed that there's a line out in the street waiting because it's Small. Besides that i think best customer service in the whole hotel had to have been valet. -So going back to the phone call that woke me up at 8 a.m. wasn't planning on waking up until 10 a.m. so i had enough energy to drive to another long distance hotel. I was told my credit card got declined. Lol for $65 difference- my card was locked. I didnt have my contacts in. I told her i would settle before i checked out- ok Then the maid comes- i said No thank you- she then gives me an attitude- saying what time is check out!? I'm like duh 12 pm. Lmao. Minoritized hotel. If i was Hawaiian i would consider it a good joke! Nothing screams Hawaiian except that loud sportsbook that was crammed with people. Needs to be a lot bigger- remodel! Only spot to hang. This casino seriously feels like one casino with main street that just got...
Read moreWelcome to California Casino and Resort, where the only thing more inflated than the prices is the delusion that you’re in for a luxurious getaway! If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing a “tropical paradise” filled with the aroma of despair and the sounds of dollar bills rustling away, you’ve found your perfect destination.
Let’s kick things off with the décor. Imagine a Hawaiian-themed party that’s gone terribly wrong—think tacky grass skirts and plastic leis intermingling with faded surfboards. It’s like someone plopped a luau in the middle of a discount motel, and the result is a visual feast that leaves you wondering if you’re at a casino or an expired theme park. The ambiance is a delightful mix of desperation and confusion, as if the walls themselves are whispering, “Why are you here?”
Now, onto the gaming floor, where the real magic happens! California Casino promises the thrill of Las Vegas, but what you get is more akin to an overly enthusiastic bingo night. The slot machines are like sirens, luring you in with bright lights and the sweet promise of a payout—only to leave you empty-handed and questioning your life choices. And those table games? They’re packed with locals who could teach a masterclass in the art of side-eye as you fumble with your chips. Good luck impressing anyone here!
The clientele is a sight to behold. On one side, you have the guests flown in from Hawaii, who arrive with all the excitement of a kid at Disneyland, blissfully unaware that their vacation dreams will soon be crushed under the weight of overpriced cocktails and losing streaks. On the other side, you have the locals—streetwise, seasoned veterans of the gambling scene—who are far more interested in picking apart the naïveté of the tourists than actually playing. It’s like watching a nature documentary unfold, complete with awkward interactions and a strong sense of impending doom.
And let’s not even get started on the drinks. Here, your “refreshing tropical cocktail” is less about sipping paradise and more about drowning your sorrows. You’ll pay through the nose for a concoction that tastes like a mix of cheap rum and regret, served in a glass that might as well have been used for cleaning supplies. Cheers to your impending hangover!
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a place that embodies the phrase “it seemed like a good idea at the time,” California Casino and Resort is the perfect pit stop. Just remember, while you might be lured in by visions of tropical bliss, you’ll leave with the bitter taste of lost bets and crushed dreams. So strap in, embrace the chaos, and prepare to watch your money evaporate faster than the Hawaiian sun can set—it’s a wild ride, and you’re in for one...
Read moreMy wife and I had our wedding reception at The California last weekend and I can’t say enough about how great The Cal and all the staff were! This place is a real gem on Fremont, and great for events and large groups. We used the Ohana Room for our ~100 guest wedding and it was a really well designed space that definitely looked fantastic all dressed up.
The tables, linens, and centerpieces supplied by The Cal were all great - good call on the gold, Cheryl. Speaking of Cheryl, HUGE shout out to Cheryl in Banquets for coordinating everything with us, she is GREAT at her job and helped us put together the perfect wedding! She was friendly, helpful, a good communicator, and her recommendations were appreciated. She lined everything up so that our wedding reception went perfectly and we can’t thank her enough. If you’re hosting an event here ask for Cheryl, you’ll be glad you did!
The buffet we had was delicious, so many people mentioned how good it was and the prime rib upgrade we got was perfectly cooked. The servers and bartender during the event were all awesome; quick, friendly, and there when we needed them. The prices for food/drink were very reasonable, especially when contrasted with most other hotels we looked at nearby. We’re Vegas locals so we’ve eaten tons of buffets and we were very, very happy with this one. Definitely recommend the prime rib!
They comped us a room so thank you very much for that! It was great, and we heard from family and friends who stayed there that they all liked their rooms too. The access to all the nearby casinos and the Fremont Street Experience is 10/10, plus at night it’s a little quieter than the others which is great when you’re trying to sleep off a wedding-induced hangover!
One final shout out to the friendly staffer from the sweets shop upstairs near the Ohana Room. We didn’t catch his name, but as we sat outside the shop on a bench talking for a moment before making our grand entrance and doing our first dance he came out of the shop and politely told us that we’d probably had a ton of photos so far but that he wanted to take one of us enjoying our quiet moment in the bench. He grabbed a pic for us (great pic btw!!) and was just very friendly and kind. We really appreciated him taking a moment to think of us like that!
All in all we can’t recommend The California enough, whether for a large event like ours or a fun weekend trip to Vegas. Absolutely everyone we interacted with was just great people, the hotel was great, the casino is fun and well laid out, and everything about the wedding that The Cal did from linens to dinner surpassed our expectations. I’d give more stars if I could, this place was an...
