Last night, I had the pleasure of seeing Kimberly Akimbo at The Smith Center for Performing Arts in Las Vegas, and what a night it was! Sitting up in the balcony, Coke in one hand and a bag of Peanut M&Mâs in the other, I was completely captivated by this beautifully crafted production.
The Venue â A Stunning Setting for a Masterpiece
First off, The Smith Center is a gorgeous venue, and the balcony offers a fantastic view of the stage. While itâs not as up close and personal as orchestra seating, the perspective from above allows you to take in the full staging and appreciate all the intricate details of the set and lighting design. The acoustics were impeccableâevery word, every note, and every subtle emotional shift came through crystal clear.
The Performance â A Perfect Blend of Humor and Heart
Kimberly Akimbo is one of those shows that sneaks up on you. It starts with a quirky, offbeat charm and then slowly tugs at your heartstrings in the most unexpected ways. The cast was phenomenal, bringing depth and authenticity to every role. Kimberlyâs character, navigating life with her unique condition while dealing with an eccentric and often dysfunctional family, was portrayed with such warmth and vulnerability.
The music was fresh, lively, and emotionally charged, blending humor with poignant storytelling. The show strikes a rare balanceâit makes you laugh out loud one moment and leaves you reflecting deeply the next. The book and lyrics were smart, witty, and deeply human, making the characters feel real and relatable.
The Snacks â A Classic Combo for Theater Night
During intermission, I enjoyed my go-to theater snacks: a Coke and Peanut M&Mâs. Something about the sweet-and-salty crunch of the M&Mâs with a cold, fizzy Coke just makes the whole experience feel complete. It was the perfect little indulgence before diving into the second act.
Final Thoughts â A Must-See Show
Kimberly Akimbo at The Smith Center was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The performances were top-notch, the music was memorable, and the storytelling was both hilarious and deeply moving. The Smith Center itself remains one of the best venues for live theater, making every show feel like a special event.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. If you get the chance to see Kimberly Akimbo, donât hesitateâthis show is something special. I left the theater feeling entertained, emotionally touched, and already thinking about when I can...
Read moreMy family decided to see The Nut Cracker ballet as a family last week. It was a surprise for my birthday. At first, the parking seemed as if it would be an expensive and long undertaking. However, we quickly found a spot in a garage just behind the Center for only $6.00. Getting into the event went quickly, even through the security screening. It is very beautiful inside and we had the opportunity to see the Bavington inside, which I pointed out to my children. They weren't quite sure what he was communicating but when I explained, they were impressed. It's a bit of a labyrinth inside even though everything is marked. We finally found the elevator and arrived at the very top. To say that the seats we had were far off is an understatement. My daughter, who has been the previous 2 years with my Mother and Sister, pointed out where she had sat previously- 2nd row, stage left. Looking down at them, the people sitting in them looked like ants... with really good seats. Well to do ants, I suppose. The ballet was nice. It was well attended by many families with small children. Also, it was attempted by many adult couples, who, although had dressed for the occasion, seemed to not understand how to be in their seats in time. This, they were squeezing past others with their flash lights on. Darn that open bar! The ushers were very good about disturbances. A child kept talking out to the point where those nearby were shushing to no avail. Soon, however, the usher stepped in and escorted them out. Leaving was a bit more difficult. There was a traffic jam at first, so the back rows had to wait a bit. But, then, the people started moving so the wait wasn't too great. Even getting out of the garage was clean. Although, we could see the ballet ok, it seems we were in the peanut gallery and at $45.00 a pop. We really didn't get to experience the ballet as much as we saw the ballet. I don't want to sound like uncouth rabble, but... It's the same old story about those who can experience high culture and those who cannot. How can it really change/affect anyone if the price of admission is a reflection of socio...
