KBBQ just tastes better when you wrap meat, garlic, and bean paste in a giant piece of lettuce then stuffing the impossibly large bite into your mouth all at once. Soot Bull Jeep will serve you with everything you need, including lots of lettuce, green onion salad, bean paste, and tons of garlic for you to have with your meat. I highly recommend asking for the garlic and sesame oil in a foil cup for your grill. The garlic becomes so tender and delicious after being slowly cooked in sesame oil.
This place is not AYCE so be prepared to pay a little more. We had 3 orders of kalbi or marinated short ribs, an order of tongue, and one kimchi stew for 4 people. It was a lot of food and we realized we could have been fine with just 2 orders of kalbi. The total was $165 with 2 large bottles of beer so it's a little pricey but not unreasonable.
The kalbi is definitely delicious. The grill is a combination of gas and charcoal and you can really taste the charcoal flavor, which really adds to deliciousness of the beef. The grill does have uneven head though because of the charcoal. The kimchi stew is a great deal at about $10. It's nicely spicy and the kimchi has been fermented long enough so it's pretty sour. Each order is huge.
The service is great even though their English is kind of spotty. We got everything we asked for quickly and our waiter was super nice. They have a free parking lot also, which is extremely rare for a...
Read moreIn terms of decor, this place is pretty shoddy. But if you want some of the best Korean BBQ in Los Angeles, Soot Bull Jeep is the place to go. It's one of those restaurants where you would take your friend if they've never had Korean BBQ before and you're dying to make the best impression. This place will deliver.
They've been open for well over 10 years, and the food quality/taste hasn't gone down a tad. The short ribs, house specialty, is very, very tasty. It's well marinated, fresh, and has great texture when cooked right. The restaurant uses charcoils, which add to the aroma and zest of the finished grilled product. Furthermore, the sesame salad and the radish soup are also really good. It complements the taste of the BBQed meat very well. The food is a bit pricey, but you pay for what you get: great, traditional, flavorful beef.
The cons here are parking (which is difficult to find if the small lot gets filled), the service is so-so, and the atmosphere sucks. But oher than that, I highly...
Read moreOnly kbbq charcoal place I know, and it really does make a difference. No wait on a Sunday afternoon. It is an older place, so the booths, tables, and decor look dated, and the place itself is bare and below average. The menu selection is still stuck in the past, and other places have really stepped up the selection and quality, but what they do have still remains as popular and as delicious as it always has been. The menu is also a bit redundant because pretty much all their meats can be had either marinated, or just plain (salt and oil). Their specialty is the baby back ribs and short ribs. The banchan is no frills side dishes that are standard fare. I always ordered jap chae (a noodle dish with a little veggie and meat in it) , and I felt it was overpriced at $19. Most places only charge about half that price for this dish. Parking on a Sunday afternoon was an empty lot (maybe 2 other cars, free self parking). Food is a 4+ out of 5. ambience...
