The resort is located north of downtown Lahaina, which gets you away from the large resorts. The resort is very peaceful and has a relaxing feel. All condos have an ocean view and lanai/balcony. We spent most of our time while in the condo out on the balcony enjoying the beautiful views and sounds of the ocean. We saw whales and sea turtles every day we were there. It was nice to have the option of a heated pool. The manager, Tammy, was very helpful and friendly. The resort and staff deserve a “5” rating for sure.||||Although we loved our stay at Makani Sands and would definitely return, Condo #208 itself seems a bit in need of some updating. The screen door going out to the lanai was off the track mainly because it is old and worn. This wasn’t an immediate issue for us because there were no insects, and while we were there, Tammy called a maintenance person to evaluate what needed to be done. Hopefully that will be fixed soon, but that set a tone. Dishes and glasses were a mishmash of sets, although everything was clean and usable. The bathroom was clean and well stocked with good towels but the tile appears dated. One feature we really liked was the counter on the side with the microwave. A few tweaks would make this condo a “wow.”||||There are variations in style and furnishings among the condos at Makani Sands. Check YouTube videos of each unit to decide which one is the best fit...
Read moreDec 28-jan4 2023 unit 310. If your idea of “island bugs”as listed in the rental contract includes cockroaches then you’ll be fine. This place was full of them. The moment I walked in I saw them, on the floor, in the dish cupboard, sink, dishwasher, closet, Bathroom. I would have moved places but nothing over the holiday was available in my price range. We paid over $1000 a night for this condo during this holiday season. The staff was aware of the bug problem and the owner would not give any refund, they did give me traps to set out along with the traps they had already set. My girls spent the nights crying scared of the bugs. I asked the people staying in the unit next to us I believe 309, they said they saw a few cockroaches in their place too- but just dead ones. I give it two stars because the location was perfect and the bedroom set up was what I needed. The upstairs two king beds didn’t have any bugs. I was just sick the entire time we were there, knowing the bugs were crawling on the dishes, even in the dishwasher. I kept all our food in the fridge even the peanut butter as to keep it safe. My main worry was bringing one of the bugs home with me! A relaxing island vacation blackened by stress and tears. The positive was we didn’t have to be at the condo other...
Read moreThis condo complex was just the ticket for us. We have done most of the bucket list activities on Maui already so we were just looking to wrap ourselves in the sound of the breakers and enjoy the sun and surf. Makani sands delivered!
No AC but the fans and ocean breeze kept us cool enough. Sitting on the balcony for breakfast and dinners was fantastic. The beach is a bit narrow but had really nice soft sand. There was enough room to layout but we enjoyed the chaise lounges overlooking the beach.
We used the beat-up community stand up paddle board and boogie boards. We snorkeled and swam with some sea turtles all right in front of our room.
The unit had everything we needed, beach chairs, mask and snorkels, beach towels, grilling gear and lots of glassware, plates, bowls and cutlery. It even had a big straw hat that fit my big head for when we needed a little sun relief.
I never saw anyone use the pool, maybe because it is in the back of the complex and not facing the ocean.
The lady managing the complex, Marie, was extremely helpful and friendly. If you avoid the high rise complexes with their too many people and just want to relax then I highly recommend...
