Visited Hono Koa Vacation Club in September 2021 with family. We had a very good time at this resort.
Prior to our arrival date, I called the resort to inform us of our preference related to room accommodations. To our surprise the clerk had assigned us the best room we could think of with the ocean view (assuming the COVID cancellations were in effect). We had an ocean view, and our room was located on the 2nd floor in the left most side of the building (yellow block).
Check-in was swift. We arrived at the resort around 5 PM. I followed instructions on the office wall to call the clerk who gave me password to open a locker to get the keys. So if you plan to arrive during late hours then late check-in will work for you too! Tip: read the instructions and have some patience ;)
Tip: any room you happen to get make sure you have a box fan provided in your room. We had one and that made a lot of difference in air flow on some nights. This applies to condo that has two rooms.
As photos show rooms, kitchen, bathroom were clean, stuffed with supplies (COVID time - we intentionally declined room service), kitchen was full of amenities which was a huge plus as we cooked for couple days.
Our condo (or whatever you call it), had one inside room with two twin beds, second ocean looking room with king bed and the living room with a sofabed. FYI, we combined the two twin beds on our own to give us a queen bed feeling. We are a family that accommodates based on the situation! And oh both rooms had enough bedsheets for our long stay.
Our mornings and nights were spent in the balcony watching early boat riders and few swimmers as well as the lights on the nearby Molokai island.
We loved the Honoapiilani Food Truck Park. Go there early by 5 PM if you wish to eat there. The first day we arrived around 7:45 PM and found out our favorite food trucks were sold out. Tip: We are vegetarian and we had enough options to eat!
A quiet neighborhood, walking distance to grocery stores nearby. We walked to the Honokowai Park to play at the beach and drove twice to Ho'okipa Beach Park to see huge turtles.
One thing to note that in the day time we visited the East side of the island and then return to the West side to relax. We rented a Toyota Sienna which was a big plus for the long distance daily drives.
I recommend it...
Read moreThis is a lovely vacation club. It's the first place I've encountered on Maui that is relatively peaceful. The space is great. Keep in mind, the extra bedroom has only 2 single beds, although each bedroom has an ensuite. The living space & kitchen is very spacious. Yes, it does not have A/C but I found the fans & deck/windows cross breeze to be adequate. There is a great view. The pool area space is comfortable, & always upkept & clean.
My only downfall is there is no real security - at least from what I could tell. They claim to have a security guard but I never saw him/her. And I couldn't see any exterior surveillance cameras which means anyone off the street has access to the rooms; not just the employees.
I state this because I discovered that someone did go into my room when I went out. They stole my home cash (Canadian) from my luggage which is organized in its own envelope, & I list on the envelope the amount & date of how much is in there. (I'm very organized like that). I don't put valuables in the safety deposit box because I've learned the hotels have a master code &/or key to get in them at any time so I use my own security lock luggage. Now, keep in mind, this happens in most hotels. I just thought a small place would be safer. My advice is to check your valuables & count all your cash upon returning from a day's excursion. My experience is the thieves take my home money rather than the U.S. cash so I won't discover the theft till I'm on my way home. This is disappointing, & it happens more often than not. But as a solo traveler, it leaves a very unsettling, invasive feeling just knowing a stranger can enter my room at any time. Be aware & beware out there.
Otherwise, this is a lovely, quaint condo community. Sadly, I...
Read moreWe use the travel website interval international to book resorts. Looking at prices for Maui we decided to go with a less expensive option and exchange for spending on excursions, meals, and souvenirs. This place had charming wooden furnishings and a private balcony. The pool was a good size and was handicapped accessible. Great choice!
Pros: The resort is about 40 minutes from the airport (OGG) and even closer to the smaller airport on the island. We were so close South Maui and many of the excursions take off from Lāhainā. We were close to so many beaches, restaurants and night life. The views from the window were stunning in both the morning and evening were spectacular. With a full kitchen we saved so much on breakfast and lunch so we could go all out for dinner! Plenty of towels and beach towels for the full week were available. Quiet hours from 10:00pm-8:00am ensured that you got you slice of paradise in peace. Free WiFi!
Neutral: There is no central a/c, this wasn’t bad in main living area or king size room with plenty of doors and windows. But the window in the twin size bedroom of our unit barely opened and the fan was not sufficient to cool us.
Con’s: We requested a suite for 6 people and one room as a king size bed, the second room were two twin bed (but they were clearly in need of replacing as they squeaked and we could feel the springs), and a pull out couch presumably for the other two guests. The furniture by the pool could use an upgrade if you’re planning on not visiting the beach...
