We stayed for one night, opting to leave Memphis after one night rather than the two we had planned to stay. Partially because of personal travel changes. Partially because the area didn’t feel so safe to walk around in so we didn’t want to go out after dark, and the hotel wasn’t that enjoyable that we were happy to spend another evening there. The TV had Netflix but not enough bandwidth to support it so we couldn’t access it. TV channels were limited. Not much to do. Restaurants packed so we got take-out and ate in the room. Fridge was barely cold so we just threw out the leftovers.
The valet was very helpful and friendly, even though we ended up self-parking. The front desk was pleasant but clearly didn’t want to make any extra effort to help with questions. She did get a manager when a question about where we parked came up and she didn’t think we should park where the valet told us to (it was fine).
Our room was fine. Furnishings a bit tired but not over the hill. It was certainly clean enough and seemed maintained. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was clean and fresh. There was any offensive or strong odor to the room. The bathroom was utilitarian and mostly clean, that is the nicest thing I can say about the bathroom. The floor grout was dark and dingy, caulking messy and old, and there was a service drain in the middle of the floor. It felt like a public restroom except someone had replaced the countertop at some point and maybe the faucet. It left much to be desired but it was serviceable for our immediate needs. I would not bathe my children in the tub if they were still small enough to need that.
When we were there it seemed like everyone staying there had forgotten there is actually still a pandemic but the hotel still had cut back services and had screens, etc. some staff wore masks, some didn’t. If there was breakfast (as was listed on the booking site) nobody mentioned it to us and we didn’t see it when we left at 8:00am to go out.
I wouldn’t choose to stay there again but if it was the only choice I wouldn’t cancel my trip over having to stay there. I had just been hoping for a...
Read moreThis could be a fantastic hotel but it just has too many issues.||The location is the first issue - I have been to Memphis a few times and it is certainly a place you need to be a little careful. It is very near the Main Street trolley but this causes a huge issue. The trolley line need maintenance frequently like all infrastructure. On two of the nights I was there outside major work was taking place between 3am and 5am which woke me up and kept me awake. I told reception I don’t sleep easy so they said yes we will give you a room to n the quiet side of the hotel - well if that’s the quiet side I hate to think what the noisy side is ||The staff are friendly but just don’t have the desire to sort issues and get things done till the end.||When we arrived given a key and sent up to the room. One of the group noticed the floor was same but thought nothing of it. Then reception phone and say you should not have been given that room. No explanation as to why. One of the group was not comfortable so decided we would move next day. No help from the staff to do this. ||New room had a number of problems it was not that clean and the sofa had a big stain. Neither TV worked correct and had parts dangling down - was told this is normal. The shower ran hot only when it felt like it. The safe which was required did not work so reception sent someone up - he came up and said I need to go and get a part out - I will be back soon. Still waiting 2 hours later. Had to put stuff in another rooms safe to go out. Next day still was not fixed. The air conditioning Aldo’s topped working on the first day in the new room and was never fixed.||No house keeping on two of the days despite requesting this.||I did not try to visit the pool area so have no clue on this. I also did not try the breakfast on offer ||The reception area is nice but does not really have an area to sit for any period of time.||Major refurbishment and updating is required. The staff also need to be trained to fully deal with and sort issues to the guests...
Read moreI never actually intended to stay at this location. I made reservations a few months in advance at another Marriott hotel for the weekend of the Beale Street Music Festival, however; when I arrived at my hotel, I was told they were oversold and did not have a room for my husband and I. Marriott Customer service found the room at the SpringHill Suite for us. The room was fine although there was no maid service, not even to make up the beds and restock the consumables. Before we checked out, the hotel billed the card I had on my Bonvoy member account which happens to be my work card - not the card I made my original reservation under. I called the hotel to inform them of the mistake and had the charges put on a personal card. I then contacted Marriott customer service because the charges for the room were more than double what the stay would have cost at the hotel where I originally booked my reservation. According to Marriott's walk policy I should have received a credit which Marriott comfirmed in an email. I never received the credit so I dsiputed the charges with my credit card company. In August, the credit card company issued a credit back for the amount Marriott indicated in their email I was due. On Sept 2, I got a notification that the hotel had again charged my work card for the total amount of the trip. When I called the hotel to explain the situation and ask that the charges be reversed, I was told I still had to pay for the hotel stay (which I had, the balance of the stay less the credit Marriott determined I was owned was paid on my personal card). I've called and emailed Marriott customer service, the hotel, and my credit card companies numerous times over the last 4 1/2 months in order to try and get resolution. This was supposed to be a fun trip to celebrate my anniversary but now I'm afraid could result in me loosing my job...
