Christmas in Miami 🎄 Escaping Toronto's Cold... Almost Failed?

I would like to bring up the positives before I start with the problems of this hotel. This hotel is on a prime location. Right across the street is the ocean, and it’s literally 2-3 minutes walk from all the restaurants on Ocean Drive. Second, it’s a beautiful Art Deco hotel. Although it has been renovated, it’s structure is still the same. The rooms are small, typical of construction of the 20s and some original lighting is still working. We were given one of the renovated rooms on the first floor, room 111. Now the bad. It is impossible to sleep in this hotel. There is absolutely no privacy. You can hear conversations going on in the lobby. It seems like the hallway acts like a tunnel and amplifies sounds. And people don’t understand how loud they sound while talking in the hallway, especially if they’re coming back drunk after partying. I have a heavy sleep but even I was awaken many times at night, and then I couldn’t go back to sleep. At night the water pipes also make crackling noises. It was two long frustrating nights of no sleep. It just really put us in a bad mood. Also, this hotel doesn’t offer services like luggage storage. We had to check out by 11 am and would have loved if they would have stored our luggage before our afternoon cruise. Also, the day we arrived there was no hot water at 10 pm. People were upset because of this issue. A new water heater was being installed and people were promised hot water by 9 pm. It was 10 and there was still noises of work being done. I hate to write the negatives of this hotel since it would have been perfect if it wasn’t for the fact that you can’t sleep in it. Therefore I would never come back to this hotel.

I'll break this down between pros and cons, but overall, a solid 4 for what you're paying for: Pros: - Economic choice in terms of base price for the area - Fantastic location with proximity to the beach and tons of great bars/restaurants - Front desk provided a surprise complimentary bottle of wine upon check-in - Comes with a free breakfast - Room is clean, has decent space, and comes with a mini-fridge - Room also provides complimentary snacks bottles of water, and sodas — a welcome surprise! - Has ice water and coffee available in the lobby all day - Provides "beach access" of free chairs & towels (more on that later) - Staff are cordial Cons: - The "beach access" is not the beach spot directly in front of the hotel, and instead is a few blocks away. Look it up beforehand to avoid an extra hike through the sand. - It's an older hotel and seemingly not recently renovated, so don't expect the rooms to look/feel modern. Wasn't a problem for me. - If you're a light sleeper, you'll want to bring earplugs and/or use white noise — there's not a lot of buffer from hallway noise, but most people are quickly passing through. - It wasn't exactly a 4-star breakfast (and was a bit stingy on portions, imo, but hey—it was included free after all). I skipped it the second day. - Doing just about anything at the front desk (checking in/out, waiting to swap out towels, etc.) takes about five years, so give yourself extra time if you're on a timeline. Like I said, for what you pay for, it's a really good deal. No frills, per se, but plenty of value and other nice surprises. Would probably stay again if I were watching my budget.

This was our first stay in South Beach and based on previous reviews, it seems the location of the Cavalier is perfect as it is really close to Lummus Park and right in front of the beach between 13th and 14th right in Ocean Ave. Based on the hotel, you should be able to drop off your car in the valet and then check in. However, the valet or parking is not true. The strip right in front of the Cavalier has been closed for a while now to make Ocean Ave a promenade, so it is impossible to get drop off in front of the hotel with your luggage. We drove between 13th and 14th and the alley behind the hotel, no valet. |The best parking was on the Miami Beach Municipal Parking Garage (if you can find a spot). The parking there is $20/day (no in and out) or if you get the valet $45/day (supposedly with in and out privileges). My advice will be to pack light or make sure you can maneuver with your luggage for a couple of blocks, a couple of stair flights (since the elevator on the parking garage was broken) and inside the hotel lobby through a couple of sidewalk restaurants.||The concierge also recommended the parking garage as the valet could take too long (almost one hour to retrieve your car) or just Uber to avoid the parking hassle.||The hotel is cute, seems it was remodel recently. It has a restaurant in front of it and several tables in the lobby, next to the bar. There is only 3 stories and the elevator is small but capable to fit the luggage.||Our room had a city view, that it was really a view to an alley. However, it was quiet. The room had a brick wall and a big and comfortable king size bed. There was an ample open closet space with a dresser and a long rack to hang clothes and to store luggage. There was a mini fridge with a few sodas and Oreos that were complimentary, also 2 free water bottles. The room could have use a microwave too or have access to a microwave.||I saw people complaining about the AC, but our room didn't feel stuffy or hot.||The bathroom was long shower with a rainforest shower. Everything was clean and comfortable. The main issues were very little toiletries, we had to ask for more and there is no place for you to hang damp clothes from the beach. We wring everything the best we could and left them close to the open window to let them dry. There was nowhere where we could hang those clothes.||The hotel has free breakfast, you could get one option from the voucher and you could eat outside on the promenade, on the lobby or on the basement. The service was a bit slow. It seems that the hotel is being stingy on breakfast. You only get 1 cup of coffee or tea (no one asks you for refills), no juice, no butter or jam for your 1 slice of toast. The Cavalier breakfast was nice, but it only came with a small pancake and a small sausage. They could benefit of having a Nespresso too.||Also, I did like the hotel had free beach towels and loungers at Esteban's Place. Bring an umbrella if you can or rent them, there is way too much sun to be...

My wife and I were looking for a simple 1 night stay to celebrate our anniversary. Neither of us had been to South Beach before and we both went into the trip completely open to whatever awaited us....good or bad. I did a lot of research on other "botique" hotels in the area comparing prices and amenities. Since we were only spending one night and it was the off season and a little cool for swimming (but not by much), we chose the Hotel Cavalier. And let me say it was AMAZING. The older renovated 1930's art deco building has been kept in great condition and provided the most unique hotel experience we have had. The room wasn't huge but was detailed so nicely and was very clean. (My ONLY complaint I could mention was that the AC didn't cool too much during the day, but luckily it was a nice day and not too hot to begin with.) The staff was friendly and very accommodating in making sure we knew about all the amenities available. Our stay included a complimentary breakfast which technically was hosted at a restaurant very close by on Ocean Drive, and the food was good for a complimentary hotel breakfast. Hotel comps were seated outside on the patio. The Hotel Cavalier also has a restaurant on site that we had dinner at, and the food was great. Not super pricey, but very tasty. Dining outside on the patio on Ocean Drive was very entertaining and enjoyable. The overall atmosphere of the hotel and its great location was amazing. Im sure the South Beach vibe during the off season is much different than during the crowded months, but we had the best time. It was very clean and we felt safe at all times in this area on Ocean Drive. You are just minutes away (walking) from so many great sites and attractions. Note: Ocean Drive was closed to vehicular traffic in front of the hotel, so ride shares and taxis will pick up and drop off at the nearest corner which is literally 20-30 ft away from the hotel. This might not be the nest suited hotel for families with alot of small children, but for a couple, or a small family with older kids, this charming hotel was incredible. Highly Recommended. Would definitely stay again. (Pictures on the website are very accurate in...

i arrived at the cavalier hotel completely confused about parking. My boyfriend was waiting in the car and I decided to walk in to get some info. The lady at the front desk was on her personal phone for 15 minutes while I was standing just trying to get some information. When she finally did hang up she advised that the only parking they had/offer was at another hotel and that they only offer valet which was 35 dollars a day or we would have to park at a parking garage. Then when she tried checking me in her system was not working to take my payment. When we finally parked the car and got our hotel keys and went up to the room we realized that room did not look anything like their pictures online and was super small. When I went down to the front desk and advised that this wasn’t what we booked the same lady kept asking if I wanted to leave. I asked if it was possible to get a bigger room and she continued to ask if I wanted to leave. At that point I was getting frustrated and just said yes and that I wanted a refund and she stated oh well I can only refund 1 day. At this point me and my boyfriend were both frustrated and annoyed and exhausted so we decided to stay. The bathroom was so small that my boyfriend could barely close the door if he were to use the toilet and the shower had no door so every time we showered there was just water all over the floor. Later that evening on the first night we stayed left to go get some food and when we came back the same lady was talking about us to another employee and they both were giggling and pointing. The hotel it’s self is beautiful when you walk in. The elevator is very old and sometimes did not function correctly when u pressed the buttons. We also had a housekeeper walk into our room with out knocking to clean the room which scared the hell out of us. Overall I was not impressed and my boyfriend and I both were annoyed. I still want a refund and will neverrrrr go here again there are way better hotels literally...
