My now husband and I booked an entire room block for our wedding at this hotel from September 10, 2021 to September 14, 2021. This was ten rooms over the course of four days (that's 40 room nights). My husband and I had reservations to stay here for one night, which we booked for Monday, September 13. On Monday, the day after our wedding, we walked to The Palihouse with several of our friends who were helping us with luggage. Upon arriving, my husband and I checked in with the front desk clerk, where we were offered a room upgrade since we were the newlyweds. We were given a top-floor room with a balcony. Along with our friends, my husband and I walked upstairs to our room to drop off our luggage before heading back down for lunch. When we arrived in the room, we checked everything out, including the balcony that was actually just the roof with a bar sectioning off our "balcony area." After a couple minutes in the room, we all noticed that the entire floor was soaking wet. We looked around for a leak, but couldn't find the source. It was just still water on the floor (a lot of it). We left the room confused with plans to mention this to the front desk, and we all took the stairs down to the lobby to eat lunch.
We all sat for a casual lunch for about two hours. Once finished, our friends left to the beach which we planned to meet them after we went upstairs to the room to change. As my husband and I were walking upstairs, we received a notification on our cell phones that a several large purchases were being made using my credit card. Confused, we realized I did not take my wallet with us to lunch. We quickly went upstairs to the room to try to find my wallet, where we used our key card to enter. All of our luggage, including wedding items, had been rifled through, broken open, and torn apart. Immediately my husband told me to run downstairs and have them call the police. I ran down the stairs and through the lobby in tears and sheer panic and told the front desk clerk to call the police, and that we had been robbed. The kind gentleman who served us at lunch overheard and ran over to help. At this point I was inconsolable, and my husband met me to tell me he shut off our credit cards. The two gentlemen called the police and went to notify a manager. The manager leisurely walked out of his office and asked what happened, and after telling him our room was entered and we were robbed, he still showed no urgency whatsoever.
I then realized that our wedding gifts were in one of the suitcases in the room. I ran upstairs to check if it was still there, which thankfully was in the only locked suitcase. The manager came upstairs along with my husband and the hotel security gentleman where they looked around. The manager asked us if we "closed the door all the way" or if one of our friends could have stolen from us, which was actually offensive, given that someone broke into our hotel room. We realized that just outside of our room was an unlocked door that freely opened to the roof, and our "balcony" that anyone can access. During this experience, the manager showed zero compassion or urgency to help us and did not even offer an apology, but rather "this is why we tell people to use our safes." When asked about security cameras, they have one. ONE. A guest should NEVER fear that their hotel room will be broken into, and the Palihouse put us in an extremely dangerous situation. My designer wallet was stolen with my ID, credit and debit cards, military ID, along with a $4k gold chain. After the police arrived, questioned us, and took fingerprints around the room, we immediately took our things to another hotel. Since this incident, we were never given a call from the manager who supposedly wanted to follow up with us after reviewing his "footage." This experience was violating and traumatizing, and I've never experienced such panic. We never received any sort of compensation, resolution, or apology. Beware, this hotel...
Read moreThis is an adorable and affordable option for staying in Miami Beach. It’s located in “Middle Beach” but easy to get to South Beach via Lyft, the free trolley or biking the boardwalk (or a short walk!). Mid Beach has more hotels and fewer standalone restaurants/bars than South Beach, but still plenty of options, and a supermarket a few blocks away. The interior design is lovely everywhere, from the rooms, to the pool, to the lobby & bar.
I came during shoulder season (late April/early May) and I felt it. For example the hotel bikes weren’t available (need repairs), and the restaurant didn’t have dinner Monday-Wednesday. However there are other restaurants nearby (within 1 block), and there are city bikes available for rent, so easy alternatives available. I think the trade off for the low price is that they run a lean staff, so things can take a little longer or be a little less full-service than at other hotels (for example, there was no server for the pool area, you order inside at the bar and they will bring things out to you). Very small inconvenience on the grand scale of things, and I enjoyed staying at a small intimate property. Their staff was very hospitable & gave top notch service.
The vibe was mostly families & older couples, not many young folks (20s-30s). This is a quiet place to stay if you prefer some peace & tranquility over a hectic madhouse.
I think the pool was the standout for me, it’s small, lush & lovely. There aren’t a ton of loungers in full sun, but I loved the shaded seated options for working, relaxing or having a meal/cocktail.
The bar/restaurant is a separate business than the hotel, so they can’t charge your room, but they do take Apple Pay. Also be aware that as of 4 May 2024, the menu on the website is not accurate. They have a more limited printed menu available at the bar. This was a bit disappointing as I flew in late, arrived hungry and was hoping to have dinner there (and had already read the online menu in detail lol), but it wasn’t available as I mentioned above. However all of the food I DID have throughout my stay was delicious and fresh. Prices are typical for Miami, which is to say expensive: $14 for smoothies, $17+ for entrees, $20+ for cocktails.
I booked my room through RCI (timeshare), and believe I was in the smallest room type. My room did not have a desk or really anywhere to sit, so room service or working remotely from my room weren’t really possible, but the lounge downstairs or the poolside tables would be great places to work. I had all my meals by the pool, which is truly lovely with a jungle garden vibe. My room also did not have a kitchenette, just a fridge, so no way to heat up leftovers. I liked that the rooms have AC mini splits so you can control the temp exactly to your liking.
One small thing: it’s an old building, so the elevator is the smallest I have ever seen in my life, and very slow. It was a bit awkward riding it with 1 other person, so I took the stairs the...
Read moreWhere do I even start? Only reason I’m even leaving one star is because I can’t leave 0, but I guess the one star can go to the reception, Angel. He was able to accommodate me as a receptionist should and handle things in a timely manner while being kind and professional unlike the female receptionist who was there the day before and had me waiting in the lobby for 2-3 hours. She wasn’t taking care of the situation or trying to find any solution she just told me to talk to someone else who never showed up and the manager wasn’t on site yet she told me she would get the manager and to wait then told me speak to someone else tomorrow. The female receptionist was SO RUDE, very hostile and unprofessional. I am genuinely a very nice person so I don’t understand what the hostility was for I was understanding for a mix up on my room although it was not my fault but there’s no need for unprofessionalism or hours of waiting in the lobby after it took me hours to even arrive.
**Besides that DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE ROOMS what a laugh in my face for a so called “luxury hotel” only thing luxury is the location. The lights in the bathroom don’t even work. It’s just so luxury taking a shower IN THE DARK… Not to mention an older male employee walked in my room very early in the morning WITHOUT EVEN KNOCKING and just stayed there til I told him to close the door. How unsafe! * (PLEASE READ THIS PART. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO UNSAFE AT A STAY) I AM A YOUNG WOMAN WITH MY YOUNG LADY FRIEND WALKED IN ON BY AN OLDER MALE EMPLOYEE.
The doors to the room DO NOT LOCK. Also, the rooms feel so moist and dirty it just gives very unsanitary vibes and smells terrible. They try to make up for this with air freshener in the hallways/lobby and it’s truly suffocating. I feel dirty staying here and my clothes feel dirty as well due to the molding issue they seem to have and the moistness. You can’t open the windows neither or fix this with AC. The floors in the rooms don’t even get clean I can’t walk around my room without shoes in without the bottom of my feet being almost black. It’s disgusting. There’s no sink in the bathroom neither.
There is a lack of parking as well. They made us park at a DIFFERENT HOTEL and pay $40+ a night for parking after the receptionist here telling us it would be free.
The restaurant/bar is extremely over priced for anything you can get there.
The elevator is sketchy and makes you feel as if you’ll be stuck in the tiny thing if you take it so I would definitely recommend the stairs all though the hallways smell bad too and feel dirty.
I would absolutely NEVER recommend this place to anyone not even my worst enemy.
Thank you to Angel the receptionist once again as he was the ONLY helpful person I encountered while completely not enjoying my stay here.
You can compare this hotel to a motel 6, days inn, or red roof but I would honestly stay there before here seriously. What a...
