Hong Kong Super Market — Local services in Myrtle Beach

My son and I usually love this place, but we bought about a pound and a half of supposedly fresh head-on shrimp this evening. When we got home I immediately steamed the shrimp..I managed a seafood market for 6.5+ years, so I know what fresh shrimp are supposed to taste like. My 6 yr old told me that they tasted bad even though he LOVES shrimp and seafood. I tried one of the shrimp and they literally tasted like I was chewing on a rubber glove (immediately telling me that those shrimp where treated with ever-fresh preservative that some shrimpers use to prolonged the freshness of the shrimp while out on the ocean, but it ultimately comprises the flavor of the shrimp)... I brought my receipt and entire batch of shrimp back to the store and they refused to do anything to either refund or replace what we bought. As a single mother, I wanted to treat my son to something he loves, and even though it wasn't a lot of shrimp, the amount I paid for those shrimp ended up costing me a half of what I make in one hour of work. If they had listened to our complaint and had offered to provide a substitute or a store credit, we would have left with a better opinion. So now my son does not have a dinner already cooked and ready, now I have to come up with some other meal that we can eat when I'm trying to get him ready for bed. My son and I shop here regularly, so it bummed me that this shop didn't even ask how to make it right. (My son ate 2 shrimp and told me they tasted bad, I ate one shrimp and they were horribly over saturated with preservatives).. such a waste of my hard earned money. This store and our Adopted extended family that own the store saved my life. I definitely definitely recommend this store it's a 10/10 for me for all my needs and I went there 10 years ago in search of desperate need for butane canisters and they have been our suppliers since I bought bathtubs from them for my disabled mother Gadget kitchen gadgets teas everything that we use in our Multicultural Afro Asian family.

Please do I would say actually ignore those negative comments get in there and actually get to know the people in the store one thing I've learned specially in the Myrtle Beach area people want things to be catered to just them and that's xenophobic. Asian markets are not going to be a Trader Joe's Whole Foods or a Publix so with each market it's a different setup and it's traditional to their culture respect their culture America is not for just one group of people it's for everyone originally the Spaniards was the ones who just so called discovered it so therefore why every time we turn around everyone's saying that America is English it ain't even really English because the English people look at us like we're crazy just get to know the store go in there you'll find something that you never thought you would want enjoy the atmosphere and engulf yourself in someone else's American culture love...

As I begin my journey into Asian inspired food dishes I found myself at the Hong Kong Super Market. Soon as I walked into the door there were several large coolers, which I inspected, containing fresh catch fish as well as shrimp and what I had been told would be shellfish. All the fish appeared fresh, well maintained with ice and ready for purchase. I inquired about the oysters from a younger lady who seemed prickly and too busy to help. I asked a few questions about the oysters, which were not on display, and immediately detected an unwillingness to answer or help at all. Despite that I was able to get her to bring out a few of which I ordered one bushels. Once the bushel arrived I found that it was small which immediately explained her unwillingness to bring out the oysters in the first place. Having limited time I decided to order two. Grocery shopping experience with pretty good with lots of selections especially in the sauces. They also have some homemade selections of the same things that you will find in their Frozen sections which is really nice.
