I have never wrote a motel review before but reading about this motel online helped us prepare for what we were getting into, so I want to give my honest opinion for those who care before staying at the Happy Holiday. Reading the reviews helped me brace myself, and I feel the need to try to help you if you are reading this. I stayed July 2013. Why not a better rated hotel? It is cheap for a motel close to the beach. Very cheap, this is why I booked it. We stayed 4 nights. We called around needing reservations a week before the trip and many said no vacancy bc of our short notice. I was pleased when the Happy Holiday said there was a room for us plus their price with tax was very reasonable. The lady was very nice on the phone. I usually stay at a oceanfront hotel when I stay with my kids/family but this time it was just my husband and me on this unplanned vacation so we decided to try something different. When I first walked into the room, it smelled like stale cigs (overwhelming and I am a smoker myself- outdoor smoker I should say!!) and, in my opinion, the entire room was incredibly dirty. Ashes and sand on the floor from the previous occupants so if the housekeepers even did run a vacuum they need to get a new one bc that one belongs in the trash. The nightstand had not been moved, so dirt, ashes, gum wrappers were still there (probably from the spring breakers who stayed 2 months ago) . The clothes drawers were broken inside, but I wouldn't put my clothes in it anyway so it didn't matter. There was a nice flat screen Tv, as well as microwave and fridge- good things about the room. I could tell that someone had wiped them down. The bathroom was very poor in condition, needed completely redone (floor, tub, wall). When you close the B R door the floor corner had not been cleaned in awhile and there was hair on the bottom of toilet and floor -- also black moldy looking substance all around the tub and toilet. The entire room was disgusting dirty which made me think whoever is supposed to clean it had no idea what they are doing.. I read reviews before I arrived so I knew to bring my own Lysol wipes and after a fast cleaning sweep, I took the old comforters off of the beds --there were burns and tears, outdated raggedy. After inspecting the mattresses for bed bugs etc-I removed comforters and used my own blanket. I did not see any signs of bed bugs, but the wraps around the box springs were chewed open all over by a mouse or something- and they both were very old) I did overhear another family say their room was broken into, door kicked in and stuff stolen. We did not have these kind of issues. I want to suggest this motel to the spring breakers, younger kids who don't have the money to spend and those who just don't care about dirt and grime. Families--- I suggest do not stay here with your kids unless you have to. One family was checking in while I was in the office, and they came back and said their room had not been cleaned yet. I bet it had been cleaned, they just felt like it was an error. I was lucky enough to get a room on the first floor bc no elevator. I did not see any bugs (other than flies/gnats everywhere) until the day we were checking out, crawling from the bathroom there was one of the biggest water bugs (or possibly roach) I have ever seen in my life. It was too fast to kill so It is now someone else's problem but Im glad he didn't show up until checkout time. I will not stay there again even though the staff was friendly and the rates were cheap. I will go ahead and pay $20 more to stay in a hotel who actually wants people to return. I did enjoy my mini vacation despite how it seems like I am complaining, and I want to let you know that I am not an anal clean freak, but I do think a healthy environment is important, even if it is just for a few days. Read moreI have stayed here a good bit over the years and I used to love this place especially bc of the location. But this place has become rundown. The phones aren't even plugged up and the tub and toilet keeps stopping up. It's bad when u are having to fix things yourself in a motel room. The window isnt even glass its some type of plexi glass and are nasty.We are in a smoking room with no ash trays. And when i asked for ash trays last night the guy told me they didnt have any.No room service we are leaving tomorrow and apparently there is no maintenance people here on the weekends which is plain ignorant. I still haven't heard anything back on what theyare going to do but I am very disappointed in this place. It used to be really nice he'll they don't have a hair dryer coffee pot or anything no alarm clock and there isn't even a plug in near the bed. Not to mention after being gone all day we come back to the tub full of nasty muddy water!!!! I'm not taking a bath in that. I usually don't write reviews and complain but this is outrageous. The woman asked if there had been room service and I'm like if there was they just come and took a bath cuz they sure didnt clean anything and the tub didnt look like that when we left. They gonna have to do something bc I'm getting mad we need baths!!! And so i use my cell phone to call the lady downstairs and ask her if she has heard anything and am very politely telling her the things that are wrong in the room and that i wanted to talk to a manager and then she pops off with a very rude attitude I guess she seen my review. My thing is I was polite but not no more!!!!!! I can say that the maintenance man is very nice but of course the tub works fine when he comes to check it out. I'm just so disappointed in this motel!!! I will never ever stay here again and definitely will not refer anyone here. If they gonna be this cheap of a motel they need to bring their prices down u don't expect much when u come to a cheaper motel butt least give me an ashtray and have the plumbing work right and come clean my room. I mean come on people this is ridiculous and dont be so rude!!!!! And don't expect a manager to make sure u are satisfied bc they definitely aren't going to call u!!! But what really bugs me is all the reviews there is never an apology or a thank you at all. I mean for one with all the bad reviews they could at least say sorry and try to pretend to care about their business. This place really needs new owners or management or something. Read moreI called over the phone to book a hotel for a friday night in july. The person at the desk said it would be $90 in which i agreed to pay. I gave her my credit card information and booked it. I drove three hours to find out that the employee messed up and it was actually $150 since the lady accidentally gave me the weekday rate.
This motel is run down and not worth $60 let alone $150. I was willing to do $90 because it was summer in myrtle. I argued with the lady that we had already agreed to $90 and I wanted her to fix this as i drove 3 hours. I wouldn't have come if i knew it was that much. She said she could either take it out of the employees paycheck or reimburse me. All the hotels were booked so this wasn't an option. I told her we already agreed to $90 and paid for it on my credit card and she should stand by her word. She then said the lady who messed up was a single mother and if i wanted to take out the difference out of her check i could. i called her bluff and said yes and she still refused to do it. I have an app on my phone that records all my conversations and told her she needs to listen to what was said over the phone, but she refused.
I disputed it with the credit card company and they said they can't use recordings to dispute charges so they won the fight. I told them i wanted to be reimbursed or i'm going to write on the travel sites about the poor customer service and shady practices they use and how they mistreat their workers. For $60 they refused to budge as they obviously are desperate for money and are running a corrupt business (they actually ended up with $30 after the dispute charge by the credit card company). I don't wish bad on anyone, but i honestly hope these owners go out of business. They are horrible people and I hope no one else goes through what I did. Its poorly maintained and bottom barrel....
