I normally don’t do reviews for restaurants unless they really piss me off or they absolutely impressed me. Luckily, Dos Carnales has done the latter.
Short version - Great place with good food and service. I recommend pupusas (mixed) or taquitos of you’re looking for a cheap meal to fill you up, followed with a refreshing horchata that had that taste of authenticity that most people can’t master when it comes to this drink.
Long version - My girlfriend and I, along with a group of some of her family, went to Myrtle Beach for vacation this past weekend. We were trying to find a nice restaurant to eat at before heading to Broadway so we all settled for Mexican. We found one nearby but for some reason they were closed (despite Google Maps claiming they were open.) By some miracle, we found Dos Carnales completely by accident, right next to the restaurant we wanted to go to. We hopped out our cars, hoping we’d be able to get a bite in. Their signs said that they were closed for the day, BUT the owner himself opened the door to ask us about our intentions and he graciously allowed us entry, despite the fact that they were about to close for the night. We all got ourselves sat down, tables fixed for our group, and one of the waiters (I believe the manager of the restaurant was the one who waited us, his name was Isaac) took our orders with haste and grace while being such and amazing host with his humor and promptness. We all mostly ordered pupusas, taquitos, and empanadas. When Isaac brought them out, they were one of the most delicious plates we ordered, and we all come from Hispanic families who make their own food so that says a lot! The pupusas (highly recommend!) were hot and filled with the meat/cheese we asked for, to the point where the cheese stretched as we pulled them apart. The taquitos had cooked, made to order chicken inside of them with a nice salad and fresh cheese placed on top of them, unlike some places that serve already cooked, bland and sometimes over cooked chicken. As we had our laughs and fun while watching a bull riding competition on TV, the owner came out to introduce himself and talk about the history behind Dos Carnales while assisting the manager with picking up plates. I’ve never met a manager that does that here in Charlotte, NC so it was an amazing sight to behold! As our dinner began to wind down, we were able to catch one of the cooks and gave our compliments as she started to head out. Eventually, we paid our check (which was surprisingly cheap, compared to other CERTAIN buffets/restaurants that we went to lol) and made our way out, with the owner holding the door open for us and giving us handshakes and goodbyes. If we stayed for one more day, we would have absolutely went back for breakfast/lunch. Highly recommend for good service under unusual circumstance, good price for a good quality meal, and amazing people. Truly an amazing find that we would’ve missed out on if the restaurant we originally wanted to go to was open. Please support the owner and his crew here,...
Read moreThis was our 1st and LAST time coming here. We got pupusas revueltas, Yuca con chicharron, and horchata. Ordered online at 12:14 and didn't receive our food until 1:05 when it was supposed to be ready by 12:30.. I've worked in customer service for over 15 years..it would've been nice to have been informed that there was going to be an hour wait. When we received our food, I asked for a refund and they said they couldn't give us one because we ordered online? Whatever. When we opened the boxes of food, the yuca con chicharron came with cream...no curtido or salsa de tomate. The yuca was fried to the point where it was like trying to chew rubber. The chicharron was cooked through, but tasteless. Onto the pupusas revueltas: the filling was shredded in such large pieces and it was extremely SALTY. There was so much masa and it still didn't tone down the saltiness. Not to mention a tiny cup of curtido and salsa de tomate for 3 medium sized pupusas? It wasnt even enough for 1 pupusa, smh. The horchata was so thick and chunky as if we got the bottom of the pitcher and it tasted like PLASTIC! I couldn't even drink it..for almost $4 for a small cup, no thanks. Doesn't deserve 1 star. I wish I checked the most recent reviews before we decided on this place. Smh. Don't waste your time and...
Read moreArrived to a busy night and that was understood and decided to wait anyway as it seemed like a good place to eat and it was getting late. They Had an open table and we were not greeted to be seated with my family. Stood for a few minutes while waiters just looked at us with lost faces. Ordered our drinks and food after being seated and didn’t get drinks until 15 min later AFTER a few bowls of random soup showed up that we didn’t ask for. Was expecting more of traditional chips and salsa/cheese dip. 30 minutes in.. Waiter “checked” on us to see if we wanted anything. We wanted our food!!..An hour in and we decided to leave. We were not getting any update on time of how long it would be until we got our food. We asked and received “I don’t know”. Not the best place for a busy night with waiters who talk back with an attitude. Waiters that need more experience/trained when under pressure. Wrong genre of music for Mexican restaurant. Just sharing my experience… this may not always be the case. But will not go back. Did end up paying for drinks respectively. Definitely a “CRAZY”...
