My family has stayed at Tropical Seas since I was a baby (which was a looong time ago). They've changed ownership since I've last stayed, and I was astounded when I walked in. Everything looked different! The lobby is both beachy chic and inviting. The rooms no longer have carpet (which makes post pool and ocean floors slippery and the sand in your bed is no fun from that). Nice big TVs and mini fridges. New sheets, bed covers, pillows, and super comfy mattresses. The bathrooms have also been updated and we had a shower only, which made it a little hard to hang bathing suits on the bar without dripping in the floor. The balcony chairs and tables, poolside chairs and lounge chairs have been replaced with cheap plastic ones, though, which is a bummer. Also, as of 7/15/22, the motel next door has been demolished (the birds are nesting in the piled up stuff) and there's a lot of banging and hammering going on during the day. It's somewhat of an eyesore, and the pool on that property is SUPER GROSS and full of debris (like doors and seriously green and stinky water). Nothing to do with Tropical Seas AT ALL, just something to be aware of if you're on that sideview or the last room on the side where you can see it from. There was a bit of a snafu when I called to check rates- originally the guy at the desk said they offered AAA rates but when I called back to make the reservation, that was not the case, and apparently there are NO discounts on rooms for AAA or AARP, etc. We paid for 1 night (by the way, book DIRECTLY with the hotel- there's not enough difference in the price if you're booking through a travel site) to confirm the reservation and then when we got there, we spontaneously decided to stay a second, and they were very accommodating without having to change room styles or switch after 1 night. Since the hotel is close to Springmaid Pier and a good bit away from downtown, there's not a lot of vagrants, you're not asked for money by beggars, no one is sleeping outside the hotel or doing drugs, and it certainly does seem A LOT safer than the main drag has come to be known for lately. I can safely say that I still highly recommend this hotel after all these years.

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights in July. So I want to give a very honest review. I've provided many realistic pictures for you to comb through and make the best decision for yourself. I can tell you that yes the lobby is very nice. It's air conditioned, clean, beautiful furniture and pictures, an ATM. Yes the staff is nice, if you are polite too. Because you can definitely tell they are short handed. And they have 2 swimming pools which remained cleanly during our stay. The pizzeria on the 2nd floor was decent in taste and prices. The bathroom was nicely remodeled and we had hot water for the duration of our stay. And no bed bugs or pests that I seen. Unfortunately that is where the good ends. This hotel has ONE elevator and 9 floors. Very limited parking (had an overflow lot across the street). Few and broken down/dirty luggage carts which you can only load through a side door because they don't allow them in the lobby. No sort of HVAC system for the hallways or stairwells. Those hallways and stairwells are also all concrete with a layer of paint and dirt on them. They don't provide any type of room service or trash pick up. It is all your own responsibility or you will be charged a cleaning fee at check out. It is sitting directly in front of the beach/ocean so rooms will be covered in sand regardless of how many times it's swept (they left a broom in our room). Our room we booked online was suppose to have a kitchen with it but at check-in they said that our room wasn't ready, so they bumped us to a different one which only had a mini fridge and microwave. Not what I paid for. We made due though. Old drapes, stained bed linen, old air conditioning unit, and busted patio chairs/table should be expected. And yes we did have to ask for any extra toilet paper we needed (4 adults over the course of 4 days and there was only 1 roll provided initially). In conclusion I would like to say that if I wasn't use to outdoor camping in a tent/camper growing up; then I would be sorely disappointed in the faculties of this place. But it is a roof over your head and a good view of the ocean. Now for the price of it, beware, absolutely not.

I stayed at this hotel with my girlfriend the week of June 16th, 2024 for our first vacation together. We left this morning, and I literally started writing this review on the drive home because of how horrible this hotel was. ||If you need a moderately priced place to sleep at night and want to be in a decent location, and don’t care about any amenities, then this may be the place for you. If you do care about all the “little” things, I’ve detailed everything I experienced into categories below. Feel free to scroll through and read the sections you care about! ||The room itself: the hotel rooms were “renovated”, so the beds look nice, there are nice pictures, sleekish bathroom, and overall good quality room. However…at a closer look it’s basically new furniture in the same terrible room. Let’s start with the door.||the door: for context, I’m a pretty big guy, weigh about 200, but my girlfriend is taller than me and fairly strong. She was UNABLE to open the door. She quite literally had to body slam it in order to get in. If she was much smaller I’m not sure how she would get into the room without me. I also had to push extremely hard to get the door to open, and it was extremely burdensome through out the week to open. Want to carry things in and out of the room without someone holding that steel trap they call a door? Good luck.||Cleanliness: I understand we are at the beach, but I don’t think anyone cleaned our room before we were given it. I think someone made the beds, but not only were there random puddles of water in the room. But we showered before leaving for our trip, we were clean, and as soon as we got in the room we took off our shoes. I walked 5 feet, looked at my feet, and they were completely black. I was disgusted. Don’t get me started on the dishes. They were sticky, covered in food, it was horrid. I honestly should have taken pictures but I was too busy washing them…then I just gave up and went to buy paper plates. Also they had dish soap but not sponge?! I was so upset about this because we specifically got a room with a kitchen so we could cook. ||Other missing items: THERE IS NO SAFE! They say there is a “safety deposit” box you can use in the lobby but there is no way I was going to use the elevator to go up and down 6 floors every time I wanted my laptop…I’ll talk about the elevator soon. In the end we would move all our expensive things, laptops, ect. in and out of the car every time we weren’t in the hotel room. It was very burdensome. Also we weren’t planning on getting room service, but once we did in the middle of the week magically they gave us a shower mat and a towel to use as a sponge for the sink. So that was nice..just wish I had it at the start of the week. I also brought my own toilet paper with me (I know I’m weird I like soft toilet paper) and the maid threw it away!!! ||The oven: want to make some Dino nuggets? Yeah right. Oven takes forever to warm up and can’t cook anything correctly. Stove works good enough. And yes like I mentioned there were NO oven mits provided so we had to use the BATHROOM TOWELS, an extreme fire hazard to wrap our hands and get things out of the oven. ||The freezer: the fridge is fine but the freezer will give anything frost burn, doesn’t matter how well it’s wrapped. If you need to cyrofreeze something for the next 15 years use their freezer. ||Internet in the room: do you want to buy tickets for something while in the room? Do you want to check your work email? Maybe text a loved one? GOOD LUCK! the internet is HORRIBLE! Not only does it disconnect you almost every hour, even when you are connected it takes 15 minutes to load a page. You’ll get better service on the beach. Also make sure you remember the password! It’s engraved in my brain from the number of times I entered it (2807).||The AC: I was so happy to have AC! It even had a remote! Oh wait..:the remote was a fake and connected to nothing? The ac was on some auto mode and when we tried to turn it off or lower it with the remote we couldn’t. So we had to manually turn the ac on and off and it was just constantly blasting.||The TV: didn’t even use it, they had a couple channels, worked fine. ||The closet/drawers: you get four hangers. Four hangers for a room with two beds. And two drawers. Literally no space to store anything. We had to keep everything in our suitcases, another annoyance. ||The beds/pillows: the beds were a bit stiff but pillows were good, you can’t push the two separate beds together, they’re bolted to the ground. ||The Hotel:||The elevator: oh yes, I said “THE” elevator, because there is only one, for a building with NINE floors! It’s a tiny cramped, hot sauna. You know those luggage carts? For context, one cart and two people can fit in this elevator. That’s it. And it’s so hot in the elevator you feel like you’re going to have a stroke before you make it to your room. Also it was so so so slow and it would stop on any floor multiple times if someone clicked the up and down buttons instead of just stopping at the floor once, it seriously needs to be updated and is a safety hazard. ||The ice machine: BROKEN FOR HALF THE WEEK! ridiculous! I wanted to get ice and they said it was broken and someone would be there at 8 am to fix it the next day. They didn’t fix it for days. ||The pool/hot tub: the pool was fine, it’s outside and small. I wouldn’t even call the hot tub a hot tub. I was like warm bath water. You can get hotter water in the shower. Never been in a cold bubblesless hot tub. It was also closed for part of the week! ||Entering and exiting the hotel: there is a ramp on the far side by the parking lot, so if you want to use a cart you have to go all the way around the building, because the front is on a high step. Same goes for wheelchair accessibility. (Side door also locks throughout the day randomly and at night). ||The staff: ||At first I thought the hotel had its issues but the staff was doing their best…boy was I wrong! ||The first day when we arrived, there were multiple staff chilling in the lobby. We arrived half an hour earlier than check in time, and of course our room was not ready yet. So we went to the pizza place on the second floor (WHICH IS AMAZING and deliveries to your room till 2 am! Definitely check out mama Mia’s, but don’t stay at this hotel to do it lol, they’re open till 11 pm, sorry for the side note) and then we came back after our check in time andddd they were still scrambling to have our room ready which makes sense why it wasn’t cleaned or fully prepared||We then take 4-5 trips getting all of our stuff into the hotel with the staff watching…it wasn’t till days later that I noticed there were carts hidden under the stairs we could use, and not a single staff member offered for us to use them. All those trips in the elevator after a 7 hour drive were horrible.||Continuing with the elevator horror show, as I mentioned there is only one elevator for EVERYONE, including staff. There were MULTIPLE times where a staff member got into the elevator with a giant container on wheels full of garbage. I almost threw up on the ride down. I understand they need to get the trash from everyone’s room downstairs, but they need to have a better system than getting into the elevator with guests. You’ll also get crammed in with their cleaning carts and anything else that can’t go up and down the stairs. It’s the elevator to hell. ||The cherry on top was when we came back from a shopping trip. I had my arms full and I was trying to open the doors with some bottles in a bag, and there was a staff member eating a bowl of some food just standing in front of the door watching me. The bottles were banging against each other, and she just looked at me and said “you good?” Without helping or anything and just watching me struggle. She laughed as I walked away. ||Overall the staff were pretty useless, rude, and didn’t seem to want to be there or help anyone.||Items left behind:||We accidentally ended up leaving some very expensive bottles of tequila at the hotel (our own fault), but when we called asking if we could have this delivered to us or what the process is, they told us we had to call a shipping company number they gave us TODAY or they would throw away the bottles because they can’t have them behind the desk. When I called the company, they were closed on Sundays! So not only does the hotel make you call the other company, but they don’t even know when their hours are. So I had to call the hotel back and beg them not to throw away the expensive tequila that day since the company was closed. They called us back later the same day  and said “we HAVE TO come back and pick it up today” or they would throw it out, extremely rude, and not understanding at all. As it turns out, you can’t ship alcohol out of SC anyway so it was all for nothing, but just wanted to add this note so that you really make sure not to leave anything. Because yes you will also have to pay for the delivery. ||At the end of our trip, I asked the front desk if they had comment cards for me to fill out and they provided me a card to review them on yelp! So here is your review (I will be posting on other sites as well, because I think people should be informed before they choose where they spend a lot of money and time off on their vacation, a hotel is extremely important!)||Overall: My girlfriend and I have individually gone to Myrtle beach for vacation maybe 10 times in the past, and have stayed at great hotels with our families. We’ve even stayed at side motels with little to no amenities that were better than this! This was the first time we went on vacation together, and after extensive research, like wanting a kitchen, wanting to be on the beach, wanting something in our price range, and even finding recently renovated rooms we were ecstatic to go to this hotel. I thought the reviews were good enough so I wanted to be sure to add this review to save someone else. Don’t fall for the pretty pictures of the “renovated rooms”, they’re crap. In the end, we had an amazing trip for our week here, but had a terrible time at the hotel. That’s why if you want a place to stay that’s 10 minutes from the boardwalk and 15 away from broadway at the beach and just want a bed to sleep in, this is great! But if you want a place to put your valuables, a comfortable elevator ride, a clean and useable kitchen, ect. then I would look for literally any...

I am currently staying at the tropical seas hotel and it is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. I have given them multiple chances to make things right and they don’t seem to care to do that. To start when we arrived we were charged a different price than what we showed we owed when booking through Expedia. The difference was nearly 60 dollars and said it was Expedia’s fault and if we wanted to continue with our stay we had to pay the difference. We were moved rooms on day one because a light didn’t work on our balcony, so they had some electricians come to our room and the electrician told us the wire was broke and it was a big job to fix the problem. The general manager gave us an “upgraded room” at no charge but this room is probably worse than the first room. We have a terrible sewage smell in the room any time the kitchenette sink is ran. We have had to use the one elevator they have in the entire building to go to the main office atleast 6 times to have the key card reset/replaced. So while I’m waiting on an elevator to come up to the 8th floor and get me to go to the main counter and back up my wife and 2 small children and stamina I’m the hallway locked out of the room.We are not putting the key by anything it just goes in the pool bag or on the counter in the room. The tv quit working and when we ask maintenance to come fix it he acted like that was a problem. The WiFi is terrible it doesn’t work at all on the 8th floor. When we first checked in we went to our room and there was sand all over the room and the sliding door to see the ocean view (which was an upgraded cost) was so dirty you couldn’t see out of it. House keeping hasn’t cleaned our room all week. I asked the main counter if there was a reason for that and they told me “they weren’t sure”. I had to ask for more towels from house keeping in the hall and then they skipped our room that day. We have been here since Sunday and in the “upgraded room since Monday and they have not cleaned our room or offered at all. As my family is sitting by the pool that tropical seas has to offer my wife notices she is getting wet while laying out and reading from the sky. I look up and notice that condensation lines from all of the air conditioners drain out off of the balconies over the pool. They have a door on the side we are advised to use while going in out out of the building from the pool and beach but then have a crew of workers with half of the ramp to get to the door taped off because they are scraping paint chips off of the building. I could continue with the list for days. The point is I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. If I could give it less than 1...
