FYI: My review is purely based on if you are going here to eat, because this is what we came here for, and this is what we were recommend to come here for. We were not impressed at all. There was a ribeye special. That what I chose thinking it would be a great steak. Nope, it wasn’t. There were chewy parts and stuff that shouldn’t be in a good cut of meat like a ribeye. I would have preferred a standard sirloin from about anywhere else over this. The chicken strips were ok, but nothing special, yet they were a better choice over the steak. Service was even worse. The place was not busy. Just a couple people at the bar and a couple tables. But, the workers seems more interested in their social circle at the bar over the customers. Only one time did someone actually come to the table, and only after waiting for a long time. Everything else, we had to go walk around to summon people or ask them at the bar if we could get our order taken, or get condiments, our bill, to actually pay the bill, etc. Few places have shown me poorer service. They also kept turning the music up super loud on most songs (I like loud music) to where you couldn’t even communicate across a table when yelling. You had to lean over and shout in someone’s ear to the point where their ear drum was tickling due to the volume of the yell. Again, I like concerts, and I’m around loud music at all. I like the night life and to have a good time. But we were here to eat, and was just out of place to have it that loud, but the workers kept turning it up to please their social circle that came to see them. I’m not a complainer, and if you look at my reviews (I have a lot), very few have a poor review, because I believe I review fairly, and not just off of insignificant things. I’d also be willing to try this place again in the future to give them another chance. I’m not sour, I’m just laying it down accurately in our only experience here. It was not a good one. However, considering this place has good reviews over all, again, I’m more than willing to try it again some time in the future when we are back in the area, and I can change my review accordingly. But for this sole visit, there was nothing to impress us, and much to...
Read moreThis has to have been the strangest experience I have ever had dining out at a restaurant. My best friend and I are in New Orleans on vacation, and since we're only here for 4 days, we are obviously trying to squeeze as much in as possible. On this particular day, we had walked to Armstrong Park, Jackson Square, walked all over the French Quarter, gone shopping all up and down Magazine Street ... When all was said and done, I had well over 17,000 steps on my Fitbit. Overall, a fabulous day; we had a light brunch earlier in the day (almost 12 hours before), and we were ravenous when we stopped at Turtle Bay for dinner that night. I ordered 2 appetizers (fried mushrooms and sweet potato fries) and a small side salad, thinking I could easily take the fries back to our Airbnb to eat later while we were packing to go home. The waitress made a very strange expression, and I asked if they were out of salad. She said, "No, it's not that ... It's just, that's a lot of food." I was totally shocked, but just kind of shrugged it off. Then my friend ordered one appetizer (spinach dip) and the smallest order of wings that they sell. The waitress let out a huge sigh, sat down at our table and said, "Listen, this is way too much food. You're drunk right now, you're coming down, right? I've been doing this a long time, and -" At which point I had to interrupt her to let her know that we had not had anything alcoholic to drink all day, and were not at all drunk - just hungry. She acted a little put out, got up from the table and said, "I'm just trying to help you." I felt like I had to justify myself by saying we hadn't eaten anything all day. It was such a strange interaction. I looked at the two women to my right, who had ordered a massive pizza plus some sides ... The couple on my other side had the same massive pizza and a platter of chili cheese fries. She didn't seem to be saying anything to anyone else. I still left a 20% tip, but I also left feeling...
Read moreFound a nice little gem in New Orleans called the Turtle Bay. Originally we wanted to have breakfast at around 9:00pm so we went down into the French Quarter in search of some not so busy restaurants. Unfortunately there was a 30-45 minute wait almost everywhere we went. So instead we wandered around until we found this little bar and grill which was actually not busy at all. The Google reviews looked decent so we stopped in and gave it a try.
The bartender was very friendly and happy to see us. He got us drinks immediately and wasted no time in taking our order. Now since it was a bar, the menu was somewhat limited, though not to bad at all considering it is a bar. When all was said and done, I settled on a large bowl of Gumbo and a side of Beignet Bites. Others in our group ordered french fries and nachos.
The gumbo here was possibly the best I have had so far on this trip. It was thick, flavorful, and had a wonderful Cajun seasoning, but was not over powering. The gumbo contained large juicy prices of chicken and sausage. This place is definitely NOT stingy on the meat.
The Beignet Bites we're similar to a deep fried powdered donut. The outside was crisp, but the inside was soft and fluffy. They were sweet and smothered in powdered sugar, which made them even better!
The french fries and nachos were also quite delicious. The fries had a Cajun seasoning and the nachos came covered in just about anything you can think of.
From looking at the menu and online reviews, I noticed that this bar is also known for having crawfish feeds which looked awesome. I would definitely recommend this little...
