Stayed here on a 3-night trip with my teenage son in early January. Read to the bottom for my TIPS!||The GREAT| - Location, location, location. At one end of the block, you're in Times Square. Cross the street at the opposite end of the block and you're at Rockefeller. But the street itself is relatively quiet; we were on the 4th floor and the only road noise we heard was an emergency siren every once in a while. Numerous subway access points within a couple blocks. The hotel was about a 25 minute walk from our train at Moynihan Penn Station.||The Good| - Hand soap dispenser bottle in the bathroom. This was my first hotel that didn't give me a bar of soap to try to wash my hands with, and I'm here for it.| - The gym on the basement level. Pretty good variety of equipment (see photos). Dumbbells all the way to 75lbs. My suggested improvements would be a second bench and to lower the room temperature; it was too warm.| - Room was clean, beds were comfortable| - There was a small ice maker/water dispenser in the hallway| - Wifi worked fine| - When we had a clogged toilet one evening, someone came within 30 minutes of request| - We didn't hear noise from other rooms and barely any from the hallway (one crying baby). ||The OK/Met Expectations| - Breakfast - Basic and very busy. A bland meat, potato, and egg option every day, plus fruit, yogurt, waffle-maker, bread/bagel/muffins, cereal. The best were the grab-and-go breakfast sandwiches on the left side of the breakfast room (usually blocked by the line for the juice machine)| - Room size - It's a small New York room, wasn't surprised by size. We had two doubles. Worked great for us as two people. Four adults would be ::ahem:: cozy. Biggest issue, as others have mentioned, there is Nowhere to put suitcases. We just had travel backpacks and could set them on the one desk shelf and the bottom of the "closet" section. I think you'd have to leave suitcases in narrow gap between bed and wall, if they would fit. Why not leave open space under the beds or something...| - Check in - Took 20 minutes in line around 3 pm||The BAD| - They only gave us one room key card, even though two adults on the reservation, because they were short on cards. Never run into that before.| - HVAC/Room Temperature - Why in a new hotel in the Year of Our Lord 2024 can you not set the room temperature below 68??? That is just too warm. I do not understand. We made do, but it was definitely sub-optimal. (Knowing from other reviews this was an issue, I would have canceled this reservation if my husband had been traveling with us because he has to have a cooler environment to sleep). We could have left the window open but A. I shouldn't have to do that, and B. we were only on 4th floor so that would involve more street noise|And yes, the only options were to have the system cycle on and off automatically every few minutes, or to set the thermostat to continuous fan. We tried the fan, which unfortunately seems to be motion sensing so it would cut off a few times every night. Luckily the room is so small you can basically roll over in bed and hit the thermostat switch to restart. Ha.||Not rated: Elevators. I specifically requested a low floor because so many reviewers reported issues. The most I saw waiting in lobby for an elevator was probably around 12 people, but even then, there were still annoyances of the system saying to get in an elevator that was already full, or getting assigned to one that just left. ||SUMMARY: Considering we got a great room rate, it was a 4-star experience for us. But I'd look into other options for a future trip unless I knew the room temp control issues were resolved, and that we could be guaranteed to have a lower floor room again. ||TIPS| - Using the Hilton app, you can try to reserve a room in advance and get your digital key to avoid the check-in line. (The app let me select a room the day before check in, but then required me to check in in-person anyway since it was my first time using digital key, to verify my identity. And then when I checked in, the room I'd selected wasn't available, so this is a big YMMV) |- If you can handle a few flights of stairs, reserve or request a room on lower floors to avoid hassling with elevators! This worked great for us, always took stairs down from our 4th floor room. The only 2 times we had to take an elevator from lobby was when the outer door for accessing stairs was closed/locked. (The entrance to the staircase is hard find in lobby; it is on the lefthand wall when entering building. If you find a small white hall under an EXIT sign with several staff doors, you're in the right place. The stairs are through the door at the back of that little hall.) | - Odd number rooms face onto 48th St. The ones ending in -09 are closest to Times Square (good for view, bad for light pollution, depending on which you want). We had 407 and could see the sidewalk on the other side of the street and the Hard Rock Hotel. I enjoyed sitting on the desk looking out the window| - If your roommates are still sleeping in the morning, grab coffee in the lobby and a seat at the counter by the front entrance to people-watch the street | - There is an additional breakfast area, located down a flight of stairs all the way to the right when you enter the main breakfast area. More seating, and some of the same breakfast foods, like yogurt in a fridge under the counter and bagels/muffins - which go out of stock fast on the main level (No hot foods). This is also where you will find...
Read moreHi 👋 |This is a post to review Hampton by Hilton Times Square (shares its location with Home2Suites, opposite hard rock hotel on west 48th steet) as I know it's a fairly new hotel and there will be people like me who scrambled to find a review on this page with no luck. Apologies there is no photos of the room 😒.|We originally booked a double room with a king size bed. When we arrived they offered us to change it to a double room with 2 queens at no extra cost which we graciously accepted as we were sisters sharing. 😊. ||Check in:||Check in was really straightforward but we did arrive at around midnight so no people or queue to check in. At busier times there was a queue for check in. The lobby has a bar as well as a snack counter where you can purchase snacks, drinks and microwave goods to fill you up if you need it. There is a rooftop bar but we didn't use it but reviews look good for this. The hotel does offer luggage storage for free. ||Rooms:||The room was fairly small but we did have room for what we needed. There is no room to store cases so if you're sharing this double room as a family of four I think space would be tight but for 2 people sharing it was fine. The room had basic amenities such as a coffee maker, steamer iron, hair dryer, free shampoo, conditioner, body wash and face soap. There was a mini fridge in the room as well as a microwave and a safe. Beds were comfortable, room was very clean and had a big tv which offered live tv and netfilx (sign in with own account) and tubi with free steaming in the room which was nice for the evenings. The room does have air conditioning but even though it's set to off it does cycle on and off all night which meant we had to wake up and turn it off, an annoying feature but didn't disrupt sleep too much.||Breakfast:||This hotel does offer free breakfast when booking but be warned the breakfast is extremely busy given the size of the hotel. We went down approx 8.30am each morning and it was a struggle to find a table and a bit of a queue for food. For example, they do have a waffle maker machine but expect at least a 30 min wait to use this as each waffle takes 6 minutes to make and people were making multiple which held the queue up. Breakfast is incredibly basic. On one day it would be eggs, potato hash and sausage and on the next day bacon, fried egg and sausage meat. They offered cereals fruit loops, granola, cheerios, bran flakes and then oatmeal. They had bagels, muffins and bread to toast. They did offer freshly prepared sandwiches too. There were multiple coffee stations and 1 tea station but there was only 1 juice station which led to a queue. I don't think the breakfast was anything to shout about. They do have a traffic light system telling you how busy breakfast is at each hour. I went down around 6.30am once and it was still very busy. There were often people standing eating or taking stuff back to rooms to eat.||Elevators:||The elevators were the WORST part of the stay. Expect at least a 30 minute wait for the elevators at peak times. They have a smart system where you input your floor and it assigns you an elevator but it becomes a free for all with people selecting multiple floors and pushing in and out to get an elevator. Each morning of our 4 night stay we gave up and took the stairs down 22 flights. (which wasn't too bad). This is something that you need to consider as it was carnage at peak times. ||Service charge:||This hotel does require a security deposit of around $100 a night (I think slightly more than this). I think It held around £380 on my card for a 4 night stay. This is refundable at the end of the trip provided there is no issues but something to factor in. ||My personal rating;||Despite the elevator issues I actually really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were friendly and hotel rooms themselves although small were nice, clean and comfortable. If I was to choose a hotel that included breakfast i probably wouldn't choose this one as I didn't feel the breakfast was well organised or a very good variety of food. I would pick a hotel with better breakfast options (for example the RUI hotel, I stayed there previously and the breakfast choice was amazing). As for location, well you can't beat it. It's right on times square in a very accessible location to other parts too and near a subway station (50th steet) which runs one of the main subway lines (the 1) and also runs the E subway line to JFK airport. ||Would I stay here again? Yes|Rating? 4/5 based on breakfast choice and...
Read moreThe location is excellent near times square. I love the concept of 3 "hotels" in one. 5 out of 5 stars.
Check-in. We had to wait for a short time to check in, but it was pleasant and easy. We had to check in at the front desk even though we had a digital key. 5 stars out of 5.
Room. We had a queen suite for 3 people. The room is small and typical for a New York City hotel. With that said, the use of space is very smart overall. There are outlets with charging throughout the room. There was a small fridge/freezer, sink, microwave and dishwasher in the room. There were also drawers to keep clothing along with a closet. The bathroom setup was nice with a shower, sink and toilet. The shower water pressure was fine, but not strong. The bed was fine, but seemed smaller than a queen. The "sofa bed" is a twin size at best, but worked fine for our situation. 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
Heating/Air. There is an individual control for the heating/air in each room. However, there is ALSO a vent/fan that continuously runs and is VERY loud - it's some type of central system. You can hear the AC/heat turning on and off as in a normal hotel - our unit worked fine. BUT, the second fan/vent is annoying (much louder than the AC unit). It's a VERY loud fan/vent running all the time. There was no way to turn this off. We heard several guests complaining about it at breakfast on our first morning...so realized it wasn't just our room. The front desk said they couldn't turn it off. 1 star out of 5 based on the noise.
Breakfast. Breakfast at this location was chaotic. There are 2 waffle stations total for the entire 3 hotels, so the line every day was about 20-30 minutes long. The one morning I stood in line for waffles, they ran out of batter and it took a while for someone to refill. For 3 of the 4 mornings, they only had 1 bank of stations open with hot items (there are 6 "stations", but only 3 were utilized). On the last morning, they had all 6 stations going and things ran much more smoothly (why didn't they use these every morning?). They constantly ran out of items and we had to wait for more food. The juice machine didn't work on 2 of the 4 mornings. The eating area is super crowded, but the staff did a nice job of cleaning up quickly when people were finished. While there were lots of coffee pots, we sometimes didn't have basic creamer or sugar available. They had a nice creamer dispenser, but it was empty one of our mornings. We never left hungry, but below average for a Hilton property. I'd give breakfast 2 stars out of 5.
Elevators. They were hit or miss. During the evening and afternoon hours, they work darn well. During the morning hours for breakfast and check out, they are a disaster. The system wastes so much time stopping on floors where nobody is there or the elevator is too full for more people. The most it took us to get down was about 15 minutes, but some people said it took them 30 minutes or longer. Elevators were 2 out of 5 stars.
Service. Room service came twice during our stay. They forgot to leave wash cloths after the first service. We asked for some replacements, but room service never brought them. We then asked at the front desk when we were down for breakfast, but again they never showed up to our room. I'd rate 3 out of 5 stars due to lack of follow through, but the room was clean overall throughout our stay.
Luggage. The hotel held our luggage for the day we checked out. This was very much a benefit we needed as our plane didn't leave until after 8pm. The amount of bags this hotel deals with is astonishing. There were bags everywhere in the morning. However, they have a tag system and the staff did an amazing job at organizing and providing our luggage back to us when we were ready to leave. Kuddos to the baggage team! Strong 5 out of 5 stars here!
Overall, we got a great rate so the pro's outweighed the con's. I'd stay again if I got a great deal again. But, there are lots of other...
